Halftime Show

Her singing is awful? LOL Boy, are you in the minority on that one!!

and she is worth almost 400 million dollars to prove it.

Same with the "less talented" JLo.

You know, you may not like a singer or an actor and that's ok. Everyone has a right to their opinion. But putting your opinion out as fact isn't really good. Perhaps saying "I don't like her voice or her music" would come off a little better.
I thought it was understood people here are offering opinions? On a discussion board. Opinions. Unless I state "It is a fact", please know I am offering an opinion. As are most people.

I expected JLo to outshine Shakira. I actually found Shakira to be an incredible dancer. She and her back-up dancers were amazing. I felt like JLo let her back-up dancers do all of the heavy lifting. They danced really energetically, and I didn't see the same effort from her. I could have done without the barely there costume. Sexy is one thing, but being essentially naked with some silver embellishment strategically placed is just way over the top for me. I liked seeing her daughter, and I understood the cages...basically a political statement. I'm guessing she got on the pole to promote her movie, but to me it was bad taste. Whatever...Shakira stood out as the real talent IMHO.

Without the silver embellishments she still would have been fully covered by a nude colored body suit.

You do realize that she is probably twice the age of her backup dancers, right, who also do this as their career? How many 50 year olds are playing in the NFL? I wish I could “phone it in” even half as well as Jlo, ever.

Well I agree with the talk on this board about the strong message about empowering women and then a half time show of that caliber. Really mixed signals and for me it was an embarrassment. But on the high note it was good lip syncing in those few moments I watched. Nothing against either of the two headliners. But really why can't we have them just come out and sing did we really need all of the flash, shaking, and glitter? just come out on a stage and perform your music you have a lot of people who like your music sing it. No one will convince me that they actually same those songs during that performance.

My 2 cents

I guess that is the difference between Shakira and JLo.

Shakira was superior to dancers that were half her age.

I agree, she was amazing but she's 43 (her birthday was Super Bowl Sunday) I wonder if she'll still will be superior to her back up dancers in 7 years.
Things happen fast after 40

It’s not a concert, it’s a performance. They want people to be talking about it the next day.

I thought it was entertaining, however, I also thought it was a bit erotic and I was uncomfortable watching it with my 17 year old son. So I agree with those who don't think it was family-friendly. And the pole and rope dancing interspersed with a children's choir was a strange mixing of genres, IMO.

A football stadium isn't the ideal place for any singer to showcase their vocal talent. People do shows in stadiums for pure spectacle value.

For what it's worth, MOST superbowl halftime show performances are lip synched. Lady Gaga is the only person in recent history (maybe last 10 years) who has performed the halftime show with absolutely NO lip synching.

They used to be located under the 59th Street Bridge on Manhattan's East Side.
My fav movie approximation remains "The Full Monty".

My husband works on 59th St on the West side tho along the Henry Hudson Parkway and got a pic of J Lo when she was making her recent Stripper movie, they were filming some of it there.

I agree with both of you guys, J Lo at 50 is amazing but it is really hard to compete with Shakira's dancing, that girl can DANCE whoa. Yes she is like 8 yrs younger but no one can shake it like Shakira. Like her music also more, just more my taste, but I am fan of J Lo as she brings a real sensitivity and humaneness to movies she has done and she's funny too. Didn't see her recent yet tho but watched one she did with Robert Redford on cable recently and really enjoyed it. Seems I enjoy all her movies. I also like that she stood up to J Z and Roc Nation and put what she wanted into her show.

I gave you a like, but don’t try to get rid of my LAO, it’s bad enough Criminal Minds is ending! I’ve been watching since the beginning. And nothing like a little Dateline and 20/20 - at least I know I can‘t kill my husband and get away with it.😂

Lol. But please know not trying to censor, that was my point. :smooth:

Yep, they did film over there and in SoHo too. Great your DH got a picture:). Agreeing w/ your overall assessment of Shakira and Lopez.

"Nude" being the key word...aka naked-looking..."essentially naked." IMHO it was o v e r - t h e - t o p. I know that she likes to dress in a certain way...if you've got it, flaunt it. I just think that there is a taste level that is questionable. That's all. I still love JLo, her acting more than her singing. I saw her movie over the summer and liked it.

I didn't like the halftime show at all. I didn't feel the need for the crotch grabbing (has nothing to do with them being female - don't understand when males do it either) or the stripper pole. I have had this discussion with many people, most of them blasting me for being a woman who is tearing down other women. It had nothing to do with them being women, I would have not liked the show if it were men doing the same things. I don't understand why there always needs to be some sort of "shock and awe". I was told by someone that I should be empowering JLo and Shakira for what they did at the halftime show - my response was, what did they do that was so amazing? They did their job, which is to sing.

I have seen some raunchy comedians at the late show, who have the ability to tone down their act to be more family friendly for the earlier show...I think it's good to take into account your environment and your audience. If you have the talent to still put on a great show that is.

The cheerleaders may have skimpy outfits but their moves at least are more family friendly. If they started setting up stripper poles on the sidelines I think thatd be a different story lol.

But they didn't even do that, everything was lip-synched.:laughing:
