Sandy: Glad that your DD was able to go back to school today. Im sorry that shes having so many problems with her health. Also, about going out too fast
Ill probably start off tagging behind one of the Cliff pace teams for the first few miles so that I dont. Going out with the pace team on my half marathon had been working great
until the whole water incident.
Maroo: Awesome that you were able to find a good training buddy that will help you train! A few weeks ago I was out for a 3 mile run. I try to keep over a 9 minute/mile pace since Im going for distance but Ive been running for awhile now and on shorter miles (such as 3) Ive naturally moved into a 8 1/2 minute pace if I dont watch it. Three miles at that pace is fine for me but currently Im training for 26 miles and Im not ready to maintain that type of pace for 26 miles! So, on this 3 mile run I had just started out and a guy passes me already well into his run. I guess that hes doing a 7 something minute pace. So, hes a good distance ahead of me since hes running so much faster. Im not paying attention to my actual pace just making certain that my body feels alright and isnt tiring out. Going into mile two I can tell that the guy is burning out. He loses his form and the distance between us is narrowing. Soon Im right on his heels and then Im right beside him. We cant break. Ive assumed that hes slowed down into my 9 something pace since hes so tired. Im not willing to slow down to get away from him. So, for about a 1/4 of a mile were right beside each other, neither one can get ahead as Im just trying to maintain and hes burning out so no energy on his part to pick back up. Finally he splits off on a path to the left and I go on. I happened to record my splits on that run I dont normally get my actual splits. Normally I just take my time and get my avg. pace/ mile. I looked at my splits and for mile two I was running an 803 pace!
I didnt realize that I had paced off him and picked it up that much! It didnt feel like it. I honestly thought I was still doing just over a 9 minute pace. So, it really can help you to be out with someone moving at a faster pace than you normally run/walk at.
Eyore: I have no idea how Ill finish this marathon. I may just collapse on the Finish line. This 14 mile run I did on Sat really took a lot out of me. For the first time I was genuinely concerned as to if I can do this or not. 16 miles are scheduled for this Saturday. It was getting tough to play mental games last Sat to keep going and now Ill be adding on two more miles! This Sat Ill be running for about 2 1/2 hours solid! In a couple of weeks it will be three hours and on race day it will be over four!! This really is a mental game. I hope that Im strong enough to play it.
Just FYI: Im moving next week. My life is going to be insanely busy for the next two weeks. I dont know how much time Ill find to be on here (if works stays slow right now I might find plenty of time!) Ugh. Packing, moving and running 16 miles! I think Im insane!
