Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Sandy: Glad that your DD was able to go back to school today. I’m sorry that she’s having so many problems with her health. Also, about going out too fast… I’ll probably start off tagging behind one of the Cliff pace teams for the first few miles so that I don’t. Going out with the pace team on my half marathon had been working great … until the whole water incident.

Maroo: Awesome that you were able to find a good training buddy that will help you train! A few weeks ago I was out for a 3 mile run. I try to keep over a 9 minute/mile pace since I’m going for distance but I’ve been running for awhile now and on shorter miles (such as 3) I’ve naturally moved into a 8 1/2 minute pace if I don’t watch it. Three miles at that pace is fine for me but currently I’m training for 26 miles and I’m not ready to maintain that type of pace for 26 miles! So, on this 3 mile run I had just started out and a guy passes me already well into his run. I guess that he’s doing a 7 something minute pace. So, he’s a good distance ahead of me since he’s running so much faster. I’m not paying attention to my actual pace – just making certain that my body feels alright and isn’t tiring out. Going into mile two I can tell that the guy is burning out. He loses his form and the distance between us is narrowing. Soon I’m right on his heels and then I’m right beside him. We can’t break. I’ve assumed that he’s slowed down into my 9 something pace since he’s so tired. I’m not willing to slow down to get away from him. So, for about a 1/4 of a mile we’re right beside each other, neither one can get ahead as I’m just trying to maintain and he’s burning out so no energy on his part to pick back up. Finally he splits off on a path to the left and I go on. I happened to record my splits on that run – I don’t normally get my actual splits. Normally I just take my time and get my avg. pace/ mile. I looked at my splits and for mile two I was running an 8’03 pace! :scared1: I didn’t realize that I had paced off him and picked it up that much! It didn’t feel like it. I honestly thought I was still doing just over a 9 minute pace. So, it really can help you to be out with someone moving at a faster pace than you normally run/walk at.

Eyore: I have no idea how I’ll finish this marathon. I may just collapse on the Finish line. This 14 mile run I did on Sat really took a lot out of me. For the first time I was genuinely concerned as to if I can do this or not. 16 miles are scheduled for this Saturday. It was getting tough to play mental games last Sat to keep going and now I’ll be adding on two more miles! This Sat I’ll be running for about 2 1/2 hours solid! In a couple of weeks it will be three hours and on race day it will be over four!! This really is a mental game. I hope that I’m strong enough to play it.

Just FYI: I’m moving next week. My life is going to be insanely busy for the next two weeks. I don’t know how much time I’ll find to be on here (if works stays slow right now – I might find plenty of time!) Ugh. Packing, moving and running 16 miles! I think I’m insane!

Maroo 16 mm pace seems so slow - till you get out there and try and maintain it!! the first few miles is ok - its "maintaining" the last 3.1 miles that I just couldnt keep up with the 16mm pacer... it was sad. very sad.

so you'll have to try and train with Lisa every now and again -

and take an advil for that soreness - get going!! :cool1:

DD went to school today - We had a major "nag session" She has to be responsible for her health! I have to get it thru her naive skull that kids with diabetes go to school, lose blood sugar, etc and they persevere! I did realize she was probably anemic as well - so we got her the vitamins with iron and will try and get her to take a vitamin every day. bought her snacks (peanut butter crackers) Her response "mom, I cant eat every 2 hours, they wont let me" :sad2: There is little trust with the school and us!!

Hey I ALSO HATE when "they" move the smilies!! :hippie:

Shoot...16 mile per hour pace does not seem easy to me at all...not even for 3 miles! And I can't even imagine going 10...or 13! Really...I am going to have really work up to that. :)

I hate that your DD is having such a hard time. It stinks to have to be different. :sad2:

And I am not even offering flowers today... Why do they move them? I can't seem to find the one that they put on there that is new?

:scared1:ok, I need some reassurance on my PTR...LOL...I pasted the link to the Wine&Dine 1/2...its a newbie nightmare....

Sandy, how did you cope for your first 1/2???:worship:

Hey, I stopped in your PTR before I jumped here!! ;) LOL

I coped for my 1st half - sheer IGNORANCE!! Ignorance is bliss btw!! and I didnt do so well!! The second Half I did (Chicago Distant Classic in August) I did WORSE!! Seriously - hard to describe how much pain I was in - or how I could barely crawl from the bed to the bathroom, to a chair - and rotate those (very very glad I had Pricelined a hotel for the night of the race!!)

Maroo my "wogs" times are anywhere from 20 mm to 17 - I really dont think I've hit 16mm yet - but I've been doing the longer ones...

DH just went out to do 17 - or was it 19? He's training for the Goofy.... The campout was great for him - the weather was in the 70's unheard of - today - it might get up to 45 - but it feels like 32 deg F (FREEZING!!)

I think I'm going to just be ignorant again in Jan - and FEAR - that will keep me moving - and I pray that all the miles I put in between now and then will make a difference - I sure dont know for sure!

OK - get to pick up DD and take her to a Bassoon lesson... carp DH didnt leave me $!!

better get going!

just so!

DD Bassoon teacher didnt show up - :confused3

DH is still "out there"...

training people - lift weights - 5# get your arms in shape! All will work to carry you through!! Carry us through!! :hippie:

I bailed on my run tonight. :sad2: My leg is still feeing "bruised" from my Saturday run. I was advised to skip my run tonight and ice the leg. I know that's wise - it's way to close to the race for injury to knock me out. It just stinks that I didn't get in my run. :sad2: I had to pass by the location where I do my weekly runs on my way home. I didn't like that I had to keep driving. I'm praying that with a couple of days off the leg it will be fine again. I have to do 7 miles Wed. night.

I am so sorry...

I totally missed quoting and addressing this post earlier! So sorry!!

Lisa and I can't train together often. Our schedules are exactly opposite. Her free time is Mon-Thurs during my work hours...then I have off Fri-Sunday - so we are exactly opposite. But...we sometimes get to grab some miles on Saturdays. So that works well.

Good luck with the move!

looks like I better book YC CL (host hotel for wine/dine 1/2) so I can crawl to the lounge...juice....muffin....tie my shoes please...:lmao:

Ahh.... That sounds heavenly! :cloud9:

I am so sorry you bailed on your run - but definitely sounded like a wise decision.

I am actually proud of myself today.

I could have easily claimed "too busy to walk today" - I had commitments stacked right up next to each other. But I found a way out of one and instead of going to the next thing (which is totally what I would have done 3 weeks ago) - I stopped and got 2 miles in! It wasn't three...but it was progress for me to make it a priority! So I am happy with that.

This is my 4 mile week for my longer distance...so I plan to get that in Friday before my friend comes into town.

Believe it or not, I do read all of your posts and try to keep up with your training marvels!! All of you are doing so well! 10 miles!!! OK, that just blows me away. :worship:

Sore knees, crawling to the bathroom, eating goo or whatever it is called??

You guys rock!!

Yes, most definitly!!!!!!!![/B]

Can she grab a snack in between classes?

Me too, I kept looking for what's new.

You can do this Dolce, you really can. You have been training and come so far. Just keep running, just keep running.........

Good luck with the move. I think you will be much happier and relaxed after you move and be able to concentrate more on your running.

You'll get there, you are right on track. When I started this back the beginning of March, it took me 20 minutes to walk one mile.

And I am not even offering flowers today... Why do they move them? I can't seem to find the one that they put on there that is new?
I think someone was bored.........

Yes ma'am. (is there a saluting smilie?)

Praying your leg is better soon:hug:

Way to go Maroo!!!! You care for so many others, but you must still make time for yourself.

You guys rock!!
Thanks!!!!!!!:goodvibes

I didn't get anything in last night. I sewed, and ripped and sewed some more. Did stuff for other people, plus it was raining and DH was at DS' soccer game. I want to train in the rain some, but don't want to take DD out in it.

I am struggling with wether to go out tonight or not. Guess I will just play it by ear. I have so much to do tonight and I woke up to a panic attack this morning. Haven't had one in a while and I started to have one yesterday and then this morning. I have so much going on this week and trying to get ready for our trip on top of it. I really may not get out tonight. :sad2:

Aw Lisa!

I am so sorry that you are stressed!

I hope you feel better very soon!

Step 1 on your path to joining us at the 2011 marathon! ;)

 I'm also sorry for your stress. Hang in there. Sometimes getting out and getting your walk in is a good stress reducer. Didn’t in the movie Legally Blond (yes, that’s one of my guilty pleasure movies) they talk about how exercise creates endorphins and puts you in a good mood? Do you think that your training schedule is part of the underlying stress? Maybe you feel that you have so many other things to do and keeping shoving the training to the side yet you know that the race date is coming up and stressing about not having your training in.

and I pray that all the miles I put in between now and then will make a difference - I sure dont know for sure!

You know how they say you have to "respect the distance"? I also say that you have to "trust the training"!

How far was your longest walk before Chicago (and Disney, I guess)? For my first half (2007 Chicago Distance Classic), I trained to 10 miles and I only did that distance one time. I was hating life by the time I got to 10 miles in the race. I was literally crying thinking about all of the money I had already spent signing up for the 2008 Donald! So, ever since then I have trained to 10 miles at least twice. The first time always sucks, but the second time usually goes better. I'm able to finish strong, but I still tend to slow waaaaaaay down for the last 3.1 miles. This time I'm going to try to train to 12 miles to see if that helps. I have the time because I am still in "half shape" from the last race I did.

Put in your miles and you will be fine. You know you can finish because you have done it before. Now you just need to focus on finishing with a smile on your face!

Thanks guys!

I am happy to report that I did 4 miles last night. DH decided to stay home from the fire department and I was able to walk. I kept thinking about all I needed to do and tried to rush but actually ended up taking longer than normal.:confused3 Lesson learned. Do it properly and don't try to rush.

I felt better last night also. Dolce, I don't know how many times I have quoted that one line to so many people. "Exercise! Exercise creates endorphins which put you in a good mood and make you happy." Actually it relaxes me which helps a ton. My problem is I am a procrastinator. Big time. I always put off stuff until the very last minute. I am trying hard to change that, but.....:confused3 Today should be better, except I think my space heater in my office just died. :sad2: Not good.

eyor: :thumbsup2 I knew that you could do it! Great job on getting it done.

Alright you guys, I'm falling apart. I didn't run on Monday and iced my leg instead. I've kept one of my feet wrapped during the day and have done some extra wrapping and icing at night. Earlier today the side of my knee began hurting - may have been my IT band. :sad2: Hopefully it wasn't. I don't want to have issues with that but it seems that almost everyone has issues with it.

Regardless of aches and pains, I got in my 7 mile run tonight. No knee problems and no feet problems. However, my calf muscle tightened up half way through my run. I think that was b/c of my wrapped foot. I think that I've overdone it with the wrapping. So, I may wrap it for tomorrow's 4 mile run but not all day as I've been doing.

So...how is everyone else doing....

Sandy...oh Sandy.... are you out there?

1 month and 18 days until I'm at Disney

1 month and 19 days until eyor and Sandy run the 1/2 marathon

1 month and 20 days until I run the full marathon.

....oh, Sandy?? :rolleyes1 Please report to your pre-trip report.

:teeth:

I will say this: that 7 mile run last night was pretty easy because I've done it several times now. We just have to train, train, train for our respective events. I'm no longer scared of half-marathons because of my training but the full marathon still has me going :scared1:
