Hakuna Matata Team Challenge Hours/Miles

I hate to tell you wonderful Panda, but the little girl in my head that tells me it is okay to walk now is the one I worry about the most. Redneck Pandas, they don't scare me...to easily distracted...LOL.

Besides, what is tougher than Goofy??????? :rolleyes1

Hey team, congrats to all those that got in miles and hours this week, I finally sent mine and Mikes off to Connie. Will be better this week since I think I can finally work out without giving up a lung.

Have a great day all

Kim

Good morning everyone!!

Wow! Great job on the hours/miles team :cheer2:

Scott - I love your idea for a hidden Mickey! I'll have to remember that the next time I paint!

How did everyone like the first week, do you think it has helped you being part of a team?

Hakuna Matata Panda:hippie:

I think that if I hadn't joined, I wouldn't have done a run on Saturday. I really snoozed in and just didn't feel motivated. Then I thought I'd better get my butt downstairs because I wanted to have my hours and miles logged in on Friday. I even went out to Starbucks afterwards and got a running quote ("The Way I See It") on my cup - I figure it's got to be a sign.

I'm not sure how much I'll end up doing today since my knee is feeling achy and crampy again. I'm pretty sure that I'll still get in my lunch hour walk though. :yay:

Hi Everyone,

Lisa: Congrats on your 1/2 marathon. Good going taking so much time off your last 1/2.

Bunnyfoo: Good luck getting your walk in at lunch.

Dave: Hope you are healing.

Kim: Glad you're starting to feel better.

Connie: Great job on your new running/walking clubs. That should be great motivation. Good luck with the new TM.

Scott & Lynn: Good job on all the hours of drywall. It'll be great when you've got it all done.

I am definitely on the mend, but not quite 100%. My lungs are still too wheezy to go running, but I'm at least able to walk this week.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Did the ellip today along with the treadmill. Treadmill stopped right after 1 mile. It seems to stop sooner and sooner. Will check online for any recalls. What a pain.

I've been meaning to come over here to taunt, um, encourage you all with this week's efforts. You know what I hear helps people live long and healthy lives. Now, I know you're going to say running, but nope. Sleeping. Lots and lots of catnaps and siestas and winter slumbers. Soooo much better than running, which makes you breathe faster and your heart pump harder. You'll wear yourselves out that way, and I wouldn't want that. Trust me, you'll all live much longer if you just get more than the recommended 40 winks and forget to work out. At least it will feel that way! ;)

And a special shout-out to DianeL, who shares a momentous occasion with me (and Mel, Maria, Helen, Amy, Carrie, SWDave, and probably others I've accidentally overlooked) during 2008. I found this article in the Runner's World archives, and I immediately thought that all of us should plan a little something-something for next January!

SPEED QUEENS
Friendship makes the miles-and the years-worth celebrating

Paige is the kind of friend who emanates energy. When she enters a scene, the overall volume rises and you can almost feel the molecules pinging around her, especially if she has had caffeine. She is confident enough to be kooky and humble enough to be real. In keeping with her festive spirit, on my birthday she put 35 balloons in my front yard and a latte on my doorstep-all before 6:30 a.m. Her 40th birthday came a mere six days after my 35th, and as her best friend, I wondered how to celebrate the celebrator.

Traditional gifts like a vacation, a fancy dinner, a shopping spree, or a mani-pedi would not suffice. Paige's favorite things, aside from her faith and her family, are running and horseback riding. I opted for running (more in my comfort zone), and signed us-and 15 of our friends-up for the Keep Austin Weird 5-K on August 29, Paige's birthday, without telling Paige.

The fact that we have that many friends who would race wearing feather boas in 100-degree heat is quite amazing. But it shouldn't surprise me. There's a closeness about people who run together. We become better friends, better athletes, and better women by the company we keep. As our mileage logs grow, so does our ability to speak the truth to each other, not hesitating when someone is limbo-ing her potential rather than pole-vaulting it. We expect the best for and from each other, yet on any given day feel comfortable enough just as we are. With no makeup, no status, and no B.S. allowed, running purifies friendships. We all have a tendency to put a pretty face toward the world yet lose patience and get edgy with the people we love most-spouses and little people. Running friendships offer a safe zone where we can relax, recharge, and take our best back home where it belongs, making us stronger mothers, wives, and girlfriends, as well as runners.

About an hour before the 7 p.m. start of our race, our clan parked down the street from Paige's house to "get weird" out of sight. She thought we were going out for a stuffy dinner, and her husband, Jamil, played along. Our shirts said, "Speed Queen" on the front, and "Rage with Paige 2006" on the back. Covered in tiaras and tu-tus, we rang her doorbell. She was silent for a moment as she took in the scene before her, adjusting to the change in plans the way a 3-year-old reacts to a detour to the ice-cream parlor. A grin cracked across her face and she darted up the stairs, returning in less than five minutes in her running clothes, which we accessorized with a pearl necklace, boa, and crown.

We fit right in. There were people wearing bathing suits and inner tubes, superhero costumes, stilts, cowboy boots, and a guy with a doll stuffed upside down in a Baby Bjorn. Austin is a weird place, after all.

We crossed the finish line en masse, arms linked, singing an unruly round of "Happy Birthday." Soaked in sweat, we went out for margaritas, Mexican food, and cake. It was the perfect way to celebrate our friend, as well as the women we all are and the women we are becoming. We celebrate our years, and our friendships, the best way we know how. We run straight into them.

Anyway, enjoy your week Hakuna Matata. No worries, take a nap in a hammock! And if you choose to stretch those muscles, make sure to record those miles/minutes!

Debra! I read that article when it was in the magazine. Wasn't that the greatest? Sounds like they run/party much like our little group :grouphug: Wonder if we can find lime green boas LOL

Well I must have had a feeling there would be napping suggested because I've been a lazy Princess today. Actually I avoid the gym on Monday due to a busy evening they have there with classes which clogs the circuit/tm's.

Good news: I have had my gym bag packed since Sat with plans for Tuesday :thumbsup2 Oh and a good thing I noticed last week... there is more sunlight when I get home!!!! If it would just warm up a wee bit I could start getting in at least 2 miles after work too. I can't wait to be able to go to the park after work again. Spring is coming!!!!

Happy training to all the teams :thumbsup2 and with a nod to Sam the Eagle... "but mostly Team Hakuna Matata!!!!!!"

Hello all! Well, I'm back to the land of the living; actually ventured to work/gym today. Got in 3.85miles on the elliptical and some arm weight work; total time of 45 minutes. Thanks all for giving me the motivation to get back on the bandwagon after my illness--would've been so easy to settle back on the couch with a big ole bowl of ice cream!

Way to go Stephanie!!! I'm still trying to get back on the ellip for longer than 10 min LOL You totally rocked on the ellip distance!!!!!

Me too ... Way to Go Stephine! :thumbsup2

Why is it so hard to get back on schedule?

Sounds like several of us have been sick or injured this month

I am having a rough week, just got over the flu, then caugh this chest cold - between the coughing and the conjestion I don't have the energy to do anything. When the little boys nap so do I :cloud9:

THINK SPRING and SUNSHINE :flower3:

Do get better all who are recovering. After ya get better I have found that the exercise helps build your imune system and helps keep ya from getting the crud.

Keep up the good work team. Every little bit helps, Lynn and I might get some swimming in tonight as we have a SCUBA starting tonight.

This team has been working so hard......good job!!! Now it's time for a nice REST!!:beach: Take a load off, you all deserve it!

I was really excited that when we went to bed last night, the wind was at 0! Wake up today and it is back to 20mph! I need to get the dogs out anyway, we just used the treadmill yesterday, so they did not get a walk and they were dinghy all night! Today I will take them out no matter what the wind is, but it might not be their normal 6 miles! The wind is supposed to be getting worse, so I had better get out there.

What an adventure: The Panda Family do Nashville

To start we had an uneventfull drive down and meet our girl friend at her hotel. Then we went for a wonderful dinner at the Brentwood Grill, the girls got "lobster in a can", which is like 2 big stuffed shells with a lobster and mixed cheeses filling. I was good and got a shrimp with pasta with a marinara sause, great food.

Then we headed down town for some drink and rowdy country music fun. At the first parking lot we got ripped off of our $10 parking fee by a vagrent. You you supposed to put your money in the machine, (a big sign that we missed said so), but our friend handed the money to the guy and got a fake ticket. Oh this was after I got lost and ahd to drive on the sidewalk for a bit, but we ain't going there.

When we got to the bar, The Stage a Country bar with a live band. The were pretty good some of them play on road trips with "Big and Rich". Any way we asked the bartender about the parking thing and he said it was a scam and our car could get towed. We moved the car to a parking garage about 2 blocks away. The guy in the little house said it was open till the bars close at 2am.

We drank and had fun, I drank mostly water since I was driving. About 1am we decided to call it a night, so I gathered my drunk princesses and headed back to the car. When we got there the garage was locked. A big sign said it closed at 1130pm and any cars left after that would be $50 to have someone come out and open the garage so we could get it out. Well we committed a little breaking and entering and rescued the VW. I suppose it was just a tad illegal but the fellow lied to us to rip us off for $50. The mission impossible team would have been proud.

But after a good night's sleep of about 4 hours, I drove my princess home and put her back to bed and our friend headed off to her home in Cincinnati. All in all a super good time and a typical Panda adventure.

Now I'm resting and icing my achillies I whacked again stepping off a curb the wrong way.

Erica and I did get in a good brisk 4 mile walk on Monday at the mall. Resting today and the rest of the week will be pool and staying off the tendon except to work.

Have a great day y'all

Adventure Panda

OMG Dave what a adventure!!!!!! Glad to hear you had a good time.

Thank you all for the well wishes, I am feeling better every day

Kim

OMG, I thought I was the only one who had adventures like that, Dave! :snooty: Feel better soon, gentleman Panda.

Glad to hear you are better, KIM!

Thanks for your well wishes BETH, but we have places to go!

I did 5 miles this morning and some stretching and Pilates. It was at tempo, not as speedy as I would have liked, but considering I have trimmed 5 mpm off my time over the last year, I guess I can't be griping...too loudly! :upsidedow

Our city girlfriend wanted to hunt the vagrent who ripped us off down and kick him in the tender spots. I told her that probably wasn't a good idea but I'd be glad to shoot him for her. (Not really, the concealled carry handbook says you can't shoot people just for theft).

I wasn't drinking yet either when I was driving on the side walk, I thought it was a narrow side road.

But no tickets no one was arrested and Erica got her car back so life is good.

Erica was livid when she found out her new VW was being held for ransom.

That is so funny Dave....Erica really has gained possession on that VW :rotfl:, heated seats and all.

Personally, I think you should be able to log some cardio time in for having to play mission impossible after all, didn't you have to climb, crawl, jump, look over your shoulder, sprint, dive, and wipe off your brow? :lmao:.

I am glad to read that all is well, and it seems as if you had an adventurous time if anything :rolleyes1.

Hugs,
Donna

just stirring the pot a bit.:stir: Since I plan on taking Thursday February 14, off to prepare a nice dinner for my honey, I wonder if I could kill 2 birds with one stone. Rather than having an hour on the treadmill, could we swap some other form of “activity” for that night? You know (wink wink) :rolleyes1 something that would be……….oh never mind, I think I”ll just skip that night and have an “off” night….
