Hakuna Matata - Running with the Reindeer!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

I hope everyone is diving into the festivities! Nothing better than celebrating our Savior's birth!

Marge and I did a GREAT walk today!!! 10 miles! The longest I have ever walked! It was nice to have he encouraging me....and even willing to walk on the icy parts to save me from possible injury! We did a great job considering the weather and road conditions. We got done in 2 hours and 46 minutes!

I wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas! Can't wait to see some of you really soon!!

Just popping in to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I hope Santa was good to everyone! My CW-X tights finally arrived! Unfortunately, it was already after I had finished my 13 miler but I did get to try them out today on a quick 3 miler and they were quite nice. Not very warm but I was running directly into a strong winds. I lost my patella strap. I think I took it off at the gym and maybe the velcro got caught on something and it fell off outside my car :(

Anyway, even though tomorrow is a holiday I'm still going for a training session at the gym. And then I have to work on a packing list so that I'm not scrambling at the last minute.

Margie - I hope you're feeling better soon! Drink lots of tea and keep warm!

We are Cheering for You!

Hi guys!

Well...I missed seeing the blizzard...but I'm stuck in Orlando through the 1st. Have a flight out at 12:45 1.1.11. Woo!! So...sadly no Emerald Nuts Run for me. :( I don't think NYRR has been open since I left, so they haven't made a call yet, but there was no way I could get there before. Continental was a MESS yesterday - I feel bad for the people working. There are like 6 back and forth hops that usually go between Newark and MCO every day, and 2 days of solid cancellations on pretty full flights, so it's got to be a nightmare. Thankfully I'm just one person. And thankfully I've got my sister who's letting me stay with her.

WOO!!

I got a 7ish mile run in on Christmas. Then went with the walking and stuff for the rest of the trip. I'll try to get a run in tomorrow when it warms up - didn't bring my cold weather running gear with me. Oy!

Hope all are well!! :)

~beth

Hi team! This is my second day off in lieu of Boxing Day - I think a few people are taking today off because the holiday fell on a Sunday this year but I know a few others who already used their Boxing Day holiday on Christmas Eve. But it's back to work and back to usual tomorrow, for a couple of days anyway.

Margie - How's your cold? pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better  You know, I didn't go shopping on Boxing Day. Well that's not true. I tried shopping online but at two different sites, I had stuff in my cart and by the time I made it to the checkout, they were no longer available. I suppose that's a sign.

Thanks for the wind pants suggestion! I'll have to see if I can find a pair on RW and have them shipped to the hotel. I'm leaving on Jan 5th. I feel weird saying this but for some reason, I don't really feel excited about going this year. :confused3

Beth - I saw pictures of the blizzard and all the people who were stranded at the airport. I think there was a story on CNN about a guy who wanted to rent a car to drive to his destination but was quoted $2K! And we thought WDW rental prices were crazy! I'm glad you're staying with your sister - I'd go stir crazy if I was stuck at the airport that long. Are you planning to go back to WDW while you're waiting for your flight? What day are you back for marathon weekend?

Mike - Feel better soon!

Sue - If it's quiet on your end maybe we can go for lunch? I think my office will be a ghost town.

Kim - How was the Christmas Eve party? Have you packed yet?

AFM - Not much of import to report. I did go to the gym yesterday and my PT and I were the only ones there. So we had the gym to ourselves. It really was like having a private session! I asked him about running lighter and he said I'd have to change my foot strike so that I'm landing on the ball of my foot. He also suggested barefoot running and getting a pair of Vibrams. Or he said if they were too hard to find - to get a pair of Adidas Zero, Nike Free etc. He showed me his and they're so light. Even if I don't get them for running, I might just get them to take to the gym. It feels like one shoe weighs less than half of one of the shoes I have now. But the idea behind it is that the shoes help you build up different muscle groups so that they can absorb the shock from running as well.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky ~ I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do totally yet. I'm staying in today - doing laundry and stuff (I didn't bring 2 weeks' worth of clothes!). Tomorrow I'm thinking I may go to Universal - not sure if I'll get the one park or two park pass. Thursday it's supposed to be warm enough I may go to Blizzard Beach on a free pass my sister has - unless she wants to do that Friday. I'm not sure what all the plans are, but I think I'll be at EPCOT with her and her friends NYE, so that cost will have to be factored in as well since things are blacked out for their maingate pass. If I get really bored before like 2, one of her friends can take me to the resort where he works and I can catch a but to DTD and cruise there and/or resort hop. We'll see. :)

People were amazingly well behaved at the airport yesterday for the most part. A couple of people were really giving the agent working with them a hard time, but overall people were just "what can you do for me?" very polite. I saw one family with a teenage girl in tears - probably missing her boyfriend and wanting to get home. And a few large families with little ones that I felt bad for. A guy in line behind me was quotes $450 for a one-way rental from...Enterprise? Which wasn't horrible considering. But then you factor in gas and lodging and food... I wasn't even thinking that. I considered the train, but that was $272. It's insane! The first flight scheduled out this morning (which was cancelled) already had 95 people on the stand-by list. CRAZY!!!!

Hello everyone!

BETH- sorry you are stranded in FL! At least you are on break and not missing work like others might be!

MARGIE- Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday! Ryan came to work at night and we worked out, then went to a movie with some friends and it was LATE! (like 11pm). I will give you a call today to decide when we will get together!

AFM- Did a nice treadmill workout yesterday morning and some light arm weights/abs with the hubby last night. We are headed to the gym tonight again. I'll probably take it REALLY light and push him harder :)

Take care everyone! Anyone have a good packing list For Disney Marathons? I am starting to get things together to start packing this weekend :scared1:

Can't believe it is sneaking up so fast!

We made trip to Fort Campbell, TWICE, since we were turned away the first time because the copy of my divorce wasn't notarized. The second trip we got everything done and and Sally is official now. Today's adventure took 9 hours and $94 in gas to accomplish. EEEEK! But I did accomplish something I hadn't planned on we were able to get her signed up with TriCare and pay our health insurance premium for a year right there on the spot.

I have a wicked head and chest cold so training hasn't happened for a week, but I'm going to try and walk with my group in the morning. It's been bitter cold, 14 degrees this morning, but tomorrow promises to be in the 40s.

Sally and I leave in a week and one day for Disney World, I sure hope the weather there is good to us this trip. If it continues to be cold every year I'm going to move my trip to later in the year. Doing the races is awesome but I'm tired of going to Florida and still freezing.

Everyone have a magical evening.:cloud9:

I agree Dave. I go to WDW to be warm. I am thinking the same for 2012. If cold next month, that will be 3 of 6 Goofy's in the 30's(or lower)!

Hawaii sounds like a better option :)

Great Article From Randy Step at events@runningfit.com

Yo run gang,

My New Year's resolution is to not let ego get me into trouble with my running. Ego comes into play in many ways, for example, when I run with people I often find myself keeping up with them and running too fast a pace or longer than I planned or where it fits into my training, risking injury. During races, a pain might come up with only a mile to go and I foolishly push through it only to lose valuable running days, lost to recovery, all because of ego.

When we start to compare our running with someone else's we are asking for trouble. We all have different genetic makeup, health histories and life experiences, no two people are alike. 3 miles might be a fulfilling long run distance for one person and it might be 30 miles for another. I plan to set goals and training schedules that will be fulfilling to me and applaud all people who have reached their personal running goals whatever they might be.
Let's crush ego and experience a new found feeling of freedom and self-fulfillment!

Randy Step, and obsessed runner, setting realistic goals and missing fewer days of running in 2011, so I can better enjoy my running obsession!

Hi, all,

I've been absent from the boards for the past 2 weeks; the holidays and sick children have prevented me from posting. I hope you all have remained injury-free and healthy.

I'll catch up on all the December posts but in the meantime, I'm happy to say that as for me, Margie can take me off the injury list for my shin splints. I'm back to training today! :yay:
