Hakuna Matata -no worries- here's another dining review Update 4/27

In our six visits to Universal, we've never done Bubba Gump's and I really want to try it (I think we now have one in Chicago somewhere...I'll have to research that). We have always eaten at Emeril's.

I'm still trying to decide where to eat if I get to Citywalk this spring. I know my big Universal dinner is going to be at Tchoup Chop in the fall, but for the spring it's still up in the air. I think it will probably be Bubba Gump's, since I love seafood, and Forrest Gump is one of my favorite non-Disney movies, but I'd also like to try Jimmy Buffet's, and also Pastamore. Decisions, decisions, decisions. . .

Oooh yummy, Bubba Gumps looks really cool and that strawberry speckled lemonade sounds good :)

Love the new smiley :)

I LOOOOOOVE that strawberry speckled lemonade - it's soooooooo good! You need to try Bubba Gump's, such a fun restaurant!

Thought I'd help you out! :lmao: We fell in love with it in California - went to the one in Monterey and San Francisco. Once I found out they would come to Citywalk I KNEW I would not go hungry when going to Universal.

TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump! TRY Bubba Gump!

And they don't even pay me for all that advertising! :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I love all your reviews on Bubba Gumps, its def on our list. I love seafood and it all looks devine to me :lovestruc

Goodness, I'm away for a few days, and I miss out on fries (chips to us Brits) and soft serve ice cream/milkshakes. WTH. Now 11.20pm, so will have to "fix" that tomorrow.

Bubba Gumps looks good, Thinking we'll hit Bubba's, Margaritaville and possibly Tchoup or Mythos for our 3 Universal days....went to Nascar in Aug 08 and just didn't have the best meal there:confused3

off to dream of McFlurries and fries.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Mmmm, shrimp! I'm going to need more VB details!! Pictures, please?? (I have a slight obsession!) I know a lot of people complain about Universal's food, but we love everything on City Walk (including NBA Grille/Nascar!)

Oh That Shrimp looked GOOD!!! We are going to Universal next year as well as Disney !! Well definately Judy and the kids .. I am still undecided!!! We will just be doing counter service meals and prolly not the meal deal !!!
Any tips on CS places and touring universal !!! I am a newbie there !!!

I have eaten at the one at Navy Pier before on a band trip. Very good. I wish I could be having that Shrimper's Heaven right now. :goodvibes I just wish there was one in the Pittsburgh area.

Karin: as always great review and pictures. And wooo to Tom for finding a drooling smiley. :cool1:

Their shrimp is really good! Just be aware that they have a habit to bring out your appy and your main a minute later :lmao: If we order an appy we always make sure to point out that we want time to enjoy that first ;)
Otherwise I love the food, the "Run Forrest Run" and "Stop Forrest Stop" signs, the whole feel of the restaurant and the movie quiz most of the servers get into! :rotfl:

So you are another one who recommends fries/chips dipped into ice cream/shake? ;)It looks like I NEED to try that myself!

I hope you decide on hitting Bubba's during your Universal days! We loved Mythos the first time around and went twice during that trip, but the visit the following year it had gone downhill. Be aware that was in 2007, so it might not be that way still, but we have not gone back since, the food was sloppy and the service really poor. Other than that we have only eaten at the Hard Rock Cafe and the food was fine, the service okay and it was LOUD in there! :rotfl2:

I had a hard time figuring out what "restaurant" VB was until I figured out you were referring to Vera Bradley! :rotfl2: :rotfl: Can you tell I have an obsession with food! ;) :lmao:
I promise I will take photos of my bags and beach towel as soon as I get time to do it and post it just for YOU!

As for Universal food, we found the food on Citywalk and the resorts to be really nice but the actual food in the parks is not the very best.

Can't you just squeeze in one TS meal at Universal and try Bubba Gump's? CS at Universal is not really the very best. They have nice pizza at the Monster Cafe but they offer plain fast food things mostly.
Are you going to stay at Universal? It is really worth it, depending on the time of year you go, because when staying at a Universal Resort you get Universal Express for free and it really is nice to bypass all those lines.

Thanks for your kind words and Tom is just so good with things like finding stuff for me! :goodvibes

Thank you! I am happy you enjoy them!

Still Day 4, February 16

A treat from Krispy Kreme

Once we had finished our meal at Bubba Gump's we decided it was time for a very special treat - some Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. So we went to "Favourites" on the GPS, picked Krispy Kreme and were praying and hoping that the "HOT NOW" signed would be on once we arrived!

Guess what - IT WAS ON!!!!!!!!!!!

These beautiful babies were hot and soft and melt in your mouth when the box was handed over. Needless to say we had to try one right there and then, so we looked for a table and found one opposite the belt where the doughnuts are glazed and opened our box - heaven on earth! We enjoyed one and and then another one - yip, they were THAT good, before we packed up the rest and went back to the car and drove finally back to the resort.

Next up - Breakfast at Wolfgang Puck's Expess

Krispy Kremes  they must taste awesome hot, only ever had them cold. I'll bet you guys like hot ring donuts, the kind you get from the funfair?

I would love "hot now" Krispy Kremes. Sometimes I stick them in the microwave at home, and they're really good, but I bet right out of the fryer would be even better. :goodvibes

Oh, Karin...you are just mean! ;) God, how I miss having Krispy Kreme's here. They sell them boxed at Jewel, but they just aren't the same as getting them hot and fresh. :worship:

Karin - you're killing me!!!! I'm dieting and those KK's look soooooooooo good!:worship:

We have a Bubba Gump's here at home so when at City Walk we usually do Buffet's, can't beat a cheeseburger in paradise!:goodvibes

hurrumph, posting that pic of a box full of Hot Original Krisy Kremes is just mean:rolleyes1

must diet, must diet, must diet, must diet, must diet, krispy diet, krispy diet, krispy diet, krispy kremes diet:dance3:

Try sticking them in the microwave for a few seconds - they are really nice that way, but hot out of the fryer - :cloud9:
We don't have ANYTHING like it here! So we LOVE to go there and get our fix. Can you believe that we only discovered them about 2 years ago? And it was here on the DIS that another Brit raved about them and since we had driven by the shop so often we went in and tried some and ........ were hooked! :rotfl2:

Sticking them in the microwave helps but fresh out of the fryer and the smell in that shop just make them ever so good! And I always check if they still have Mickey in there - and he was still there in February :thumbsup2

I KNEW it!! ;) But let me tell you that I had one just for YOU and I ate it very slowly and was thinking of you real hard! :lmao:
But just know - you can still get them boxed - it takes us a 12 hour rather expensive plane ride to get a hold of them! ;)

Doesn't looking at yummy food help with losing wait? ;) I know what you mean - I need to stick to my diet too and this brings back so many yum memories!

You are all so lucky to be able to have all those yummy shops and restaurants!

Day 5, February 17

Breakfast at Wolfgang Puck's Express

No ADRs to be done this morning, so we slept in a little and then drove over to Downtown Disney for breakfast at Wolfgang Puck's Express.

I had another cup of their really wonderful Earl Grey Tea and Tom even got some coffee this time.

It was Ash Wednesday, so meat was a no go, so we both opted for vegetarian options.

IMG_4291.jpg

I had the Three Cheese and Tomato Fontina Omelette, Mozzarella, Goats Cheese and Fresh Basil - had it before and loved it. It did not disappoint - this is so good, lots of gooey cheese and the tomatos are tasty!

Tom had the Spinach, Mushroom and Cheese Omelette, Mozzarella and Fontina and really loved it too!

After we had finished our breakfast we walked around Downtown Disney and before we left we went to Goofy's.

Up next - Goofy's treats on display and MY treat!

Ooh that looks yummy :)

Might try KK in the microwave, thanx :thumbsup2
