Hakuna Matata - Movin' on to March

Hey gang just popping in to say hi.

Busy day but hope to get back on tomorrow to catch up with everyone!!

We were missed by the storms yesterday but they were all around us. At one time a tornado touched down 5 miles from where I was working but it went away from town instead of toward us.

This week has been pretty much a bust for training, got in about 12 miles but a bad cold and spotty sleep and stormy weather didn't make fro a very good training environment. I got in about 12 miles anyway I think.

Thanks for the great pics of Africa on facebook Scott and Lynn. I bet that was just amazing.

Time to regroup, recover and get back to normal next week.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - Good luck with your training next week!

Kim - Hi!

Tandy - It was a great trip - Scott will probably have posted photo’s on FB, I have not been there myself lately, so I do not know what he has posted. Don’t hold your breath for a trip report - it might take awhile, still trying to get laundry done and finish unpacking. Good luck with school planning!

AFM - Still did not get out for exercise - very windy yesterday - 35-69mph. Will see what today holds. Still busy with laundry and unpacking and generally getting live back on schedule.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey team!!!!

Just another quick check in to say hi. Hope everyone is doing great. We are still doggie proofing the house we have decided he doesn't need to be crated but we need to make sure there isn't anything he can get into.

Have a great Sunday all

Hi Team.

Well I'm still fighting off the darn cold but spirits are high and I'm hungry to get back at it. Loving the changes to my body that losing 15 lbs through intense training and clean eating have made.

Tomorrow starts another week with another chance to make it happen. I'm stretching more and even using some light weights to firm the spots the race walking doesn't hit.

Kim good luck with the dog training. We have more or less litter box trained guinea pigs. More like they will use it if they feel like it, but they stay in a habitat and don't have the run of the house.

Eva, your the one who amazes me with how well you have evolved as an athlete. If you continue with it and I hope you do you will accomplish way more than you know.

Vicky, are you planning on the Goofy again next year? I'm just doing the marathon for 2013.

Mike and Rick, you guys are really coming along as athletes. Mike you do need to start sleeping though.

Tandy, hope you get over your cold quickly to.

Everyone have a wonderful Sunday.

Dave:hippie:

Hey team. Tomorrow morning starts the last stretch before spring break, so thought I'd get one last post in tonight.

Dave: I'm glad you're feeling a little better. Hope you're able to get out there tomorrow. How are you liking the guinea pigs? Harrison is still harassing us for hamsters, but we haven't given in yet?

Kim: What kind of pup did you get? I love puppies. I am wanting to start a new business where I take people's puppies and train them, and then, when they're about 3 months old, I hand them over. That way, I'd have a rotating new puppy all the time!

Lynn: I won't be able to see Scott's pics because I don't do FB, but I'm sure they're amazing. Africa is one of those things I'll probably never get to do. Just too many places to go and not enough time.

AFM: I managed to run the 3.5 with Harrison yesterday. He is a real downer when we run, acting like he's going to die and complaining a lot. Even crying a few times (he's a little overly dramatic, don't worry. I'm not a bad mom.) But, he was wonderful yesterday. Really slow the first mile, but then, he finally found a groove and just busted it out. I was proud of him. I bet he could have easily done 5 with no prob. I then took the dog for a 1.5 mile walk. Then, we went to a friends house until 10 that night and I was miserable. I am so sick and I feel so horrible. No running today. In fact, I didn't get out of my PJs.

Tomorrow is the first day in a serious attempt to get healthy. I've been doing okay, but not putting full effort in. But, it's spring break coming up, which is the time to start thinking about getting ready for bathing suit season. :scared1: Harrison managed to lose 5 pounds, but was really bad yesterday, so I'm sure he's back up 1. He's still doing great, so I'm not complaining. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Kim - We have a bad dog that gets into trouble too..it's no fun. nce we let her out of her crate my hubby swore that she wouldn't pee on our new carpet. Welll...guess who had to clean pee out of the carpet on Saturday? Me. Is this a puppy or an adult? Puppies chew and that can be a whole different kind of mess.

Tandy - Take a couple days to get over that cold! My girlfriend told me that the average cold takes two full weeks to get over. Ugh. Maybe some echinacea tea?

Lynn - You guys travel so often that packing and unpacking must be like second nature for you!

Dave - I only got 12 miles in last week too. Although it was because of Gage being sick and life got busy in general..I'm just taking it as a step back week and will try to get in 20+ this week.

No news for me...oh, but I did get a used Prius over the weekend. With the gas prices expected to get over $5 before summer I though it would help since I drive so far. My hubby drives twice as far as me every day, but he can't get a new car since his is newer. So he will take my car when he works on my days off. So far I like it...it is a bit strange though. No gas tank...its a "bladder" that expands and shrinks with he weather. Also I don't need a key for it...just press a button to start it. Also press a button to park it and turn it off. So odd. I grew up driving stick shift 4WD vehicles...to me it doesn't even seem like a real car...lol. I'm sure I will get used to it. :upsidedow

:grouphug: To everyone!

Hey all! finally catching up. took the weekend off but ran 6.5 miles this morning and will run through friday.

can't wait to hear from mike how things went with his marathon!

bunnyfoo - no gifts except literally juice and cookies (I guess so we didn't pass out) boy were people ticked - unbelievable greediness!

rubato - make sure to tell harrison we said great job!

lynn - welcome home! can't wait to hear the details of your trip!

rick - how did your youth retreat go?

everyone - keep running!

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! It is FREEZING here today! It's about 10.4F (-12C) - who knew it could get that cold for March! Meanwhile the forecasters are calling for a high of 53.6F (12C) on Wednesday. Go figure! That is some crazy weather!

Kimberley - I thought you guys would be getting goodie bags and lots of swag. Boo! Good job on all the running you've been doing lately! How many miles are you hoping to get in this week?

Eva - I was watching my PT rebook one of my appointments last week and he typed my name in as "Vivky". He didn't understand why it was funny!

Congrats on the new car! Is the Prius a hybrid that runs on electricity? One of the parking garages in the city has a charging station for electric cars. They designed it so cords look like they're from gas pumps. It's kind of cute!

Can you just delete the people on FB who are giving you a hard time? I don't understand the drama and cliques that happen there either. I'd miss all your Gage photo updates though.

I was told that squats and lunges were best for the legs and butt. I think the main problem is that I should be icing after runs and I haven't been  No I don't cycle - I don't have a bike :(

Oh my LA flight in August will connect through Cleveland but it's early in the morning. I'll send you a PM, maybe we can get together for a quick quick coffee LOL

Tandy - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better! Do you have the flu or a stomach bug? Give Harrison a big thumbs up for the run! I have the start of callouses which I'd almost rather have. When I went to wash my hands after working out, my hands were stingy. My chiro says the deadlifting is good for my hamstrings, quads and glutes ... which is ultimately good for running. LOL! The bad news is that I only found one of my lifting gloves - I'm not sure what happened to the other one. I don't really want to spend money on buying a new pair.

Dave - I haven't decided on a race yet. I talked to Sue and I kind of agreed with her thinking that there was no point to go all the way to FL only to do one race LOL But it will really depend on the pricing. If it's only one race, it will be the full because of the anniversary medal! Congrats on all of the weight you've lost recently! You're a lean, mean GRRRR machine! Lots of pixiedust: for your cold! I hope you feel better soon :)

Kim - How's your pup doing? Waaay back when ... when I use to have a dog, he use to get into the garbage all the time. Or he'd jump onto the dining room chairs and eat our breakfasts off the table when nobody was watching. Post some pics of Jack when you can :)

Lynn - Welcome back! I loved the pictures! That's awesome that you guys got to make Koeksisters. I heard about them on the radio back in December but haven't had a chance to try making them yet. Were they hard to make? How are your pups? Did you get an upgrade for the delay?

Rick - How was the retreat? Those breakfast goodies that you and Mike ate on Friday ... oh yum! I wrote a blog post about it ;) I'll post a link when it goes live. I'm still trying to customize stuff and figure out all the blog site knick knacks. Good job on fitting in the 10 miler and getting everything else you needed done. How's your hip and calf feeling?

Mike - Congrats on Little Rock! And I'm glad you got the late check out situation worked out (sort of)! How are you feeling today? One of the races I did last year with Kim had those reusable chips that you fasten to your ankle with a piece of fabric and velcro. Yuck! I'm sure it had been used a million times before that. Did you get to hang around with a lot of the WISH'ers that were at the race?

Elizabeth - Was the box given to the runners at the end of the race in addition to the usual bagels, cookies etc? Or was it an attempt to stop people from grabbing all they could? No swelling around the knee. I think it's just a combination of me pushing myself harder and being lazy and not icing after a run

AFM - This weekend was a bit of a cutback week. My training plan only called for a 5K race. I wasn't registered for a race so I just ran on the TM at race pace. It felt pretty comfortable to go at about 6.7 but I'm happy to say that I'm now comfortable running between 6.4-6.7 on the TM. I remember when I first started running, 6.0 would seem like it was going really fast!

Since I had some extra time - I did a bit of baking and cooking on the weekend. I made a big batch of turkey chilli so that I could have it for lunch over the week, left some chicken marinating and then I made flavored cream cheese spread and a few other goodies. I'm trying to put them all onto a blog. I'll post a link when I have it go live.

I'm doing a training session with my chiropractor tonight and then I'll see if I can run for a bit on the TM.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

I'm back in the gym tonight

Vicky, yes I will do the marathon and I agree that is a long way to travel for a half. A first ever half is different but since I regularly do a 10 miler each week a half is just a little longer training walk.

Right now Sally and I are trying to get the funds together for a Sept trip. We aren't planning on any races just a fun week, for a change.

Eva, that car sounds like it's very high tech. I drive a stang conv and it's still got rear wheel drive.

I got out for a good training walk with a partner this morning. We did a mile and a half warm up then 4 miles in 46:11 followed by a mile and a half cool down. It was slow for us but after short sleep, from the cold and cough keeping me awake, it was all I wanted.

Weight loss is still going well, I went to Disney 187 and I'm 171.6 this morning. I should be at my target by the end of april.

Dave:hippie:

Hiya Team!

Dave~ You have done an excellent job of training and sticking to your weight loss goal! Keep up the good work! You are right, I need to sleep more. Someday, I will be working a different shift and will have a more normal life.

Eva~ Glad you are posting more! I channeled you during the marathon on Sunday- "just four minutes, you can do anything for four minutes". It got me through the last few miles! :thumbsup2
Have fun with the Prius! I still haven't found a hybrid that I like.

Tandy~ Rats! Sorry that you can't make Chicago, but have fun in Germany!

Lynn~ I wish that we lived closer so I could hear all the stories about your trip! Glad that you are back safe!

Kim~ Give Jack a rub for me! I hope that he adapts well to his new home!

Vicky~ Do the Goofy again with me!

AFM~ The dog that we wanted was adopted by the lady who was fostering her. I'm happy that she has a home, but ticked at the lady for letting us meet her and then changing plans on us. Liz is really disappointed.
I had a hectic day traveling on Friday, but had a great time in Little Rock and met a ton of great people! I did okay in the races. The marathon was a tough course with a bunch of steep and long hills in the second half. One was so steep that I had to walk down it! The trip home was again, a pain! It was the second fastest of my four marathons and I am happy for the result. The medal is absolutely gigantic! It is literally the size of a dinner plate, with a spnner in the middle. You can see it under my FB photos.
I will post a race report here tomorrow. The Disboard pages are taking a long time to load and I usually seem to lose a report when its doing this!

Have a great day! -Mike :cool2:

Morning all!

Bunnyfoo - I'm planning about 22-23 miles this week - two 6.5 miles and three 3.5 miles. I have to admit though, I'm getting REALLY SICK of the dreadmill and I'm not enjoying running as much right now. I'm glad I have a race next week - only four miles but it still should be fun and nice to get out. I can't run outside for my training right now bc it's in the teens at 4:30 am and I have cold weather asthma - it really acts up badly, even with my inhaler, in the cold. But I will survive! And I can't wait to see your blog - cooking blogs are my fave!

Mike - great job and congrats! you should be proud of yourself!

Hi team! I'm going to try and sneak in a post before the day gets too busy!

Kimberley - I hear ya on the TM! I usually listen to music when I run on the TM and I have gotten bored of all my playlists. I wouldn't really want to be outside at 4:30AM either :cutie: A 4 mile race sounds like a lot of fun! I think it's a great distance to get you warmed up for the rest of the racing season.

I think my blog will only have 1-2 posts a week because I work full time as well. I'm jealous of all the bloggers who can cook/bake blog full time and can update their blogs every day. I'll post a link when it goes live. What are some of your favourite blogs?

Mike - Congrats on your full! Sounds like it was a tough course with all the hills. I saw the picture of your medal! That's huge!! Where are you going to hang it?

Sorry to hear about the adoption situation :( There are a ton of pups out there looking for a good home so I'm sure you'll find one soon enough!

So you'll be Goofy or Dopey again... Hmm... Do you care if I stop for pictures? Especially if I stop for the one with Mickey or Goofy meters from the finish? But what kind of times were you thinking of for the half and full?

Dave - Awesome job with all of your weight loss! Which resort are you thinking of for your September trip?

AFM - I worked out with my chiro yesterday and we did a lot of arm work and some deadlifting. Even with the gloves, I think I'm going to end up with callouses - yuck! But it is fun to lift! I guess I haven't done deadlifting for a while because when I tried running afterward, I felt like I had no energy. I ended up running for 35 minutes and just doing 2/2 run/walk intervals at 6.2 on the TM.

Tomorrow I start my baking class so I would normally go running after work but it's not going to be possible. I think I might save tomorrow as a rest day and run tonight after work instead. I don't want to get up early because tomorrow will be a long day (I think).

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Sorry to be mia. Just like everyone else I'm busy at work and weekends are filled with skiing. Sounds like everyone is doing well.

Mike, Congrats! on your race. I saw the medal at a race expo. Crazy big but I'm sure it makes a nice addition to your bling collection.
Sorry to hear the doggy didn't workout and that you find one to adopt soon.

Vicky, Ready for the warm weather tomorrow? I have an appt. so won't be able to take advantage. Are you at George B for your class?

Lynn, Welcome back from your travels.....Next up is_______?
Alaskan Cruise or is that 2013?

Tandy, Feeling better today? PD for a speedy recovery.

Bike training is going well. Never got the hang of using a hr monitor for run training but it is really helping on the bike along the cadance meter.

I can't believe that we "spring" ahead this weekend. Time is flying by.
Have a great Tuesday.
.........Sue

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - The koeksisters were not hard to make, but the dough was already made for us, we just rolled them out, braided them, then gave them to the staff for frying. They were not bad fresh, I cannot imagine eating them cold - now Malva pudding and Melkterts are a different story - I am hoping to try both of them at home.

Dave - Hope the cold goes away soon!

Kim - I am behind, did you get a new dog?

Tandy - Actually, the reason I joined FB in the beginning was to view my cousin’s pictures of a visit - she informed me that I would never see them unless I was on FB - LOL. Hope your cold gets better soon!

Mike - Good job on the race! Good luck finding another dog for the family!

Kimberly - Scott has posted photo’s on FB of the trip.

Eva - I am basically unpacking one suitcase and repacking into another - Fantasy Maiden Voyage is only a couple of weeks off. I have a guest room bed in the basement that is just covered with packing piles! Have fun with the new car!

Sue - Next is Maiden Voyage of the Fantasy - we did Alaska last year (it was great).

AFM - Finally got out yesterday with the dogs, in spite of the strong wind! It was warm though. Then got in about 30 min on spin bike. Today is beautiful, high supposed to be almost 70F! I have opened my windows for the first time since last year! If the wind stays calm, we may get bike ride in when Scott gets beck from dentist. It is supposed to be back in the 30’s with snow tomorrow.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Everyone!

Vicky~ Yes I will be doing the Dopey again! Of course we can stop for pictures. Its part of the fun, and I will take them while you pose if you want. The pace probably won't matter too much to me. I have a few more fulls under my belt, so I will able to relax and enjoy the route or go for a PR if you want.
Right now, my Little Rock medals are hanging with the others on a couple of shelf brackets.

AFM~ Liz is home sick with the flu today. Robert got his report card and got good marks, except for sitting still and listening. It's 62 degrees here and I really wish that I could go for a run, but my legs are still in recovery mode!
Race Report to follow!

Have a great day! -Mike :cool2:

My laptop is having issues all of a sudden, will post again when I can, phoning this one in.

Lynn - Another maiden voyage for you guys?!?! I'm so jealous!! Lots of pics...lots of pics!! Of and if you can, you should video the ceremony and fireworks!!

Mike - Hope Liz feels better! These spring flu bugs are no fun especially if it's nice outside. Can't wait to hear your race report!!

Sue - Love to hear that you are skiing on the weekends! Wish I could say mine were as fun!! Curious about the cadence monitor. Hubby and I got bikes last fall and I plan on cycling more this summer. What kind of cadence device do you have?

Dave - WTG on the weight loss!! That's outstanding!!

Vivky - Ooooooh I can't wait for the blog. I'll post all of your stuff on pinterist and it'll help get the word out for more followers!! What day of the week is your Aug flight? Maybe I can pick up a shift if I have a sitter..I can meet up for coffee and get some extra cash :thumbsup2

Not much for me. Lovin' this weather...shorts today on my run :woohoo:

Mike don't worry about the report card, I couldn't sit still in class either. I was always in trouble for that and I think I turned out ok. Means he's not a good herd animal.

Eva, yes loving the weather, it's going to be pretty much spring here from now on.

Lynn, thanks but still fighting it off and coughing a lot at night. But it is starting to run it's course and I should be fine by weeks end.

Nice 10 miler in the wind today with team Panda. We did the last 3 miles at an 11:00 pace, into the wind.

We are going to finally get shirts on order Monday. Since I won't be wearing the orange anymore I need new race wear. Medium blue with the Panda logo on the back and race walking team across the back of the shoulder, small logo where a pocket would be on front with Panda over the front logo.

Off to work now, have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning team.

Dave: The tshirts sound great. And good job with the wind. I had similar conditions today and decided to start against the wind. Made finishing much better. ;)

Eva: I am jealous of the shorts. I was in the low 60s, but I am still WAY too pale for shorts right now.
Congrats on the Prius! I have a traditional car, but it gets about 35 mpg. It also doesn't need the key. I just need to have the key on me somewhere. I lose it all the time, but since the car starts, I figure it's in there and I can find it later!:rotfl:

Mike: Hope Liz is feeling better soon. It took me almost a week. Yuck! Sounds like Robert is doing great. They can't sit still and listen in kingergarten!
Great job on the full. I always prefer to hit the hills in the beginning, if at all possible, but Arkansas is very hilly. Sorry about the dog. I think it stinks that she did that, but it may have just hit her that she couldn't give him up.

Liz: Another cruise? Fabulous! It's beautiful here today, but not like being on a cruise.

Sue: How is the skiing going? Every time someone mentions biking, I remember that I never get mine out. I need to do that soon.

Vicky: Can't wait for the blog. It will be so nice to see pics and recipes of all the wonderful things you mention. Sorry about the callouses.

Kimberely: How's the running going? Are you sticking to the plan?

AFM: I am feeling so great right now. I have been eating super clean all week, am getting in lifting as well as walking and running and just feel really on track.

Unfortunately, Harrison is sidelined. He has PF. I'm hoping it's just a mild case, but he's in my walking boot right now to try to get the pressure off the tendon. :sad1:

I got 3.5 running in, plus 2.5 walking. I'm thinking I may go out for another walk if I can get all my work done. I'm also going to zumba tonight if I can swing it. I have a meeting starting across the street from zumba at the same time that zumba ends, so I may just leave a few minutes early and go to the meeting sweaty! Yuck, but these people are used to me and my weird habits by now! ;)

Hope everyone has a great day and is enjoying the amazingly warm weather!
