I put my vote in for the Canyon, awesome shakes there :)

Mike - Congrats on the EEC. I saw the medal at the Mini Marathon Expo and it looks so cool!

Dave - It was my intention to go down and cheer at the Mini Marathon, but I got in late after watching Avengers Friday night after the Expo. I made an error in setting my alarm and wasn't able to make it down. (6:45 PM versus 6:45 AM, D'OH!) So I watched the coverage on the local TV station.

AFM - I made it to the Mini Marathon Expo late :( I found a WiSH color tek shirt... but there was a large snag in the side. *sigh* I asked if they had more, they said that what they had was what was left. I think the WDW Marathon Weekend Expo was much better. Although I did notice that as with the WDW Expo, it was MOSTLY womens items that were at the expo. I need more running shorts, and only found a very small selection for men and prices that just weren't fantastic.

I did get a discount code to enter into the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (or the Half). So I FINALLY registered for the half! I spoke with the people at the booth about the race and I expressed my "concern" that it's going to be cold. They assured me that once I get a mile into it, I'll be quite warm enough.

There is a brand new 1/2 that will be in this area this coming October. They don't have a map listed yet, but the start point looks like it'll be basically in the cornfield regions west/northwest of Indianapolis.

I also stopped by the RunDisney booth and they said that if I signed up for their e-mails, that they'd send a discount that I could use to register for a race. I'll let ya know if I actually do see something to that effect.

I'm hoping that I'll wrangle in some B-Day cash this week and be able to register for WDW 1/2 and 5K pluto: Earlier than I figure I'll be able to otherwise.

Well it's about time! :lmao: I was starting to wonder if I was going to be running this HM race by myself. LOL I am looking forward to the race. It will be only three weeks after my first Full Marathon so it will be interesting to see how well I will have recovered by November.

Hey gang!!!!!

Congrats to all those who participated in races this weekend.

Rebecca so sorry that you had a bad experience. This is one race I always wanted to do but now having second thoughts after your experience.

Ummmm dinner is a toughy, I love BOMA but no characters there. Although I didn't think Chef Mickeys was worth the money, in all honesty I don't think any of the sit down restaurants are worth the money....well except KONA!!!! it is nice that the characters are there so we can all get photos with Goofy, Mickey or Donald but I will also be good with whichever.

I am joinning weight watchers tonight, I went to my cholesteral dr yesterday and my numbers are great...he even gave me a high five:cool1: however my trigycerides are still high and that comes from to much fat so he has suggested of course weight loss but a lower....NOT low but lower carb lifestyle for me so going to go tonight and see if they have a lower carb option I can follow. I don't know much about the program but it is one of the most successful diet plans out there so figure I have nothing to lose right now except weight cause you can join for free.

Vicky: Hope you are feeling better!!!!!

Kim, good luck with the weight watchers adventure, I think Sally is going to try them also. My quest for making some noise in the 60 to 64 age group is doing wonders for my waistline.

I start PT today for my achillies, I'm hoping for some good results there. I need to have my achillies at 100% if I'm going to get much faster, that is what is holding me back now. I need to make keeping my calves loose with massage and stretching a mission also. Darn being an adult athlete can be a lot of work!

I'm looking forward to January already and the chance to hang out with the wonderful people on our team. I looked at the Whispering Cannyon and that looked awesome, we redneck Kentucky folk can eat some BBQ anytime.

Hope everyone is healthy and staying pumped with excitement for the amazing lives we all have. We are indeed blessed to be able to do what we do.

Kim, I joined WW back in May 2010 when I first started down the path towards weight loss. The program is very good as it is not really a "diet program"; its goal is to teach you how to make changes in your habits, food choices, and portion sizes that you can adopt for life. Changes that will help you lose weight and eat healthier, but more importantly, how to make the changes permanent in your lifestyle.

I stayed with the program for 18 months and it really helped me to lose 115 pounds. I lost the first 50 pounds in 8 months without doing any exercise (just following the WW program), and then added exercise (walking, strength training, and eventually running) to the mix.

I hope you find it as helpful and informative as I did. I no longer am a member but I still follow the things I learned at WW to keep the weight off.

Rebecca so sorry that you had a bad experience. This is one race I always wanted to do but now having second thoughts after your experience.

A lot of the things I had issues with would most likely not have been issues for someone native to Toronto, so I don't want to discourage you from the race because of just my thoughts on it. Some of it was bad, yes, but I will admit Disney has their issues too. Mine were just multiplied because I was on my own in terms of figuring out how to get around and where I was to go.

I think overall, a lot of the people who ran it enjoyed it. I've been following the race's FB page and a lot of positives are on there even with the negatives, though many people had issues with similar things to myself.

Now, I have a question for my multiple halfers, what is a good recovery/maintenance/training plan when I have 25 days until my next half? I would like to speed up from this weekend's past race, however, I'm still having difficulty walking right now (tonight will be a rest night, for sure!).

The amount of stiffness and discomfort I'm having right now is making me reconsider doing the full or the goofy at this point. :worried:

Saylan: First let me say this is just my opinion, from someone with not nearly the experience as many others on the boards here. So take it for what it's worth.... :rotfl:

One thing to remember about the Goofy... you won't be going for a PR during those races (at least I won't be). You'll be running those races for the fun/experience and challenge. So your pace will be more conservative so you can save your energy. I would think of treating both races like training long runs and gauge how you feel after a training run as more likely what you would experience rather than your recent race.

As for your question on recovery, that is a good question. When I ran two halfs in two weeks this January, I took three days off after Disney, then ran a 3-mile easy run on Wednesday, then a 6-mile Long Run on Saturday. Then the following week I ran another 3-miler on Tuesday and Thursday, and raced on Saturday. I took it carefully and did not want to push too hard.

It was important for me to drink a lot of fluids, slowly replenish the glycogen, and feel recovered before that second race. I wore compression pants/sleeves the first two days after the first race, and I also got a massage that first week to help with the recovery.

You have more time between your two races than I did. So you could choose to take the first week off to rest and then train the next two weeks, or maybe get a couple of 2-mile walks in during the first week to keep the muscles active that first week. All you are trying to do is maintain your HM fitness level, not trying to increase it.

Good morning guys.

Busy day for me today. I'm meeting a training partner for a 6.5 miler along the river and then I have my second PT appointment. The first PT yesterday was an evaluation of strength and flexibilty for my legs. They even measured me to see if I had one leg shorter than the other.

I must do the yard work today, the grass has grown like crazy since we have had rain for a solid week here. It will be like mowing a hay field. But pushing a mower to trim and do the drainage ditch will be a good workout.

I'm going to look at putting together a new stretching program to try to get more limber and flexible all over. I have been concentrating on just the muscles that whine from training and neglecting some that need attention.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Dave: How did your 6.5-miler go? I hope your PT today was helpful. Did they give you any new stretches/exercises to do at home as well? Do you mow the lawn in your running shoes?

AFM: Well, my little hip discomfort is still nagging at me. I think it is my TFL muscle that I must have strained. So I am reluctantly going to take most of this week off from running or walking (Sunday through Friday) and give it time to recover. During this time I will focus on stretching, using the Foam Roller, and RICE.

Hopefully, things will feel good for my 15-mile Walk on Saturday and 10-mile Walk on Sunday. Saturday afternoon, I take my second foam roller class. It will probably be good for me especially after that morning's Long Run.

There's only 25 days remaining before my AVON Walk! :goodvibes

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Just got caught up with the posts and trip reports. Glad to see everyone doing fairly well. I hope to post more now that my work schedule is back to normal.

I just was cleared for running without restrictions! :cool1: No more PT for me!

However, I will not be running in the Diva Half or 5k this month. I'm not prepared and I don't want to injure myself again. I plan to find a local 5k to see where my timing is. I feel a bit like I'm back to the very beginning but that can be a good place to be, right? Currently the only race for which I'm registered is the Tower of Terror. Of course, all this talk about post-race dinner makes me want to sign up for the full in January. After all, the ToT would be a good training race for my first full....;)

Hi everyone! Sorry to have been MIA. I'm slowly feeling better but still feeling under the weather. I promise to catch up with everyone in a few days. In the meantime, here's a link to my race report from Sunday. I put some pictures up so I wasn't quite sure how to cut & paste them over here properly.

Elizabeth - So glad you're cleared to run! Are you going to keep going to the PT for check ups occasionally? You should totally do the full in January! Even if you're just there for the weekend, it will be a ton of fun!

Rick - Congrats on all of your fundraising that you've done for the upcoming Avon walk! I've been keeping track on FB and it's awesome! I didn't know there were foam rolling classes. You should make some videos of what you've learned and share them with us ;)

Dave - Do you have one leg shorter than the other? I hope your PT session goes well today! I'm glad you're okay after your race on the weekend!

Saylan - If it makes you feel any better, I didn't feel any worse this January than I did in 2011 after having done only the full. I find that each time I run a particular distance, I tend to feel pretty sore for a day afterward. But each time after that, it usually isn't a problem. Make sure to ice after the race and to do an ice bath or epsom salt bath (I did both).

Sorry I missed seeing you on Sunday. I was pretty sick and I always worry about getting others sick. We will get together for sure in August! And thanks again for letting me borrow your photo :)

Kim - Good luck with WW! I joined a while ago and it really helped me to lose weight. I went from 160 down to 125 without any exercise. Increase your protein intake and you won't miss the carbs.

Ok I'm off! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

:hippie:Yes I feel like this PT and all the stuff I'm doing is going to work. I discovered a motion I couldn't do and now have a new goal to get to where I can. That motion is vital to being a better race walker.

I have a mini masseuse and I'm playing with it on my tight calves. Anyone ever used one of those?

:bday: :cake: :cake: :bday:

party: Happy Birthday Kipp!! party:

:bday:

Hope you're having an awesome day!!

Hello team!

Kimberley - Congrats on the anniversary of your lifestyle change! That is quite an accomplishment!

Regina - How about watching TV shows on DVD? You could watch continuous episodes until your run is finished.

Saylan - Sorry you had a bad race experience. I can see how the things you didn't like would be frustrating for an out-of-towner.

Dave - Sorry you had a bad race experience. I'm glad you're feeling better.

Elizabeth - Congrats on being cleared to run!

Vicky - Hope you're feeling better!

Kipp - Happy Birthday!

AFM - I've been keeping busy with work and whatnot. DH and I did a 3 mile run this weekend and we have 4 mile run this weeked. We're just starting our training for the DL half. We're using a MfM plan and using the extra time we have before the race to repeat some weeks.

I realized I can stream some Pilates workouts through Netflix so I've tried a couple of those in the last week. I thought they were good. I want to try all the options to see which one I like best.

I also made it back to ballet class for the first time in over a month. I think my attendance will be pretty sporadic. The class is on Sunday mornings, so whether or not I go will be dependent on if I get my weekend run in on Saturday.

I've started to try my hand at digital scrapbooking. DH got me Photoshop Elements a couple Christmases ago but I haven't done much with it. So far, it's fun but very time consuming. I'm thinking I'd like to do an adventure book like in Pixar's Up and highlight all of the trips DH and I have taken together.

Hope everyone is well!

Have a good night,
Emily

Good luck Kim and Vicky! and happy belated bday KippWade

great job on your races Vicky and Saylan - and I liked your reports - great job racing sick vicky - I don't know if I could do it - and TG you got the shuttle Saylan - sounds like a nightmare if you didn't - and your return trips sounds as bad as mine was in january trying to get back to beach club! - I've been hearing a lot of races with bad water stations - what is going on with this- why is the most important thing needed to run safely is handled badly, and often times, with foul tasting water?

dave - hope you are feeling better after your race and congrats on its completion

rick - thanks for sending your training plan - I fully plan to review it tomorrow!

hockeychic - congrats on your cholesterol! you know it's good when your doc high fives you!

es45 - congrats on clearance to run!

I voted for whispering canyon as I'm going to chef mickey thursday night with friends.

so, another crazy week for me - well may is going to be nuts with work - so not a lot of time on dis. I'm stuck pulling a lot of all-nighters bc I have some big deadlines - I feel like I'm in college again! but I am running and attempting to run 100 miles this month - so far I've run 34. anyone want to join me in my quest? I had two good things happen this week - I won to running related contests - first a free registration into next sunday's 15K inaugural race in cohoes, NY - so that was $35 bucks saved. But even better, I won a FREE NEW PAIR OF NEW BALANCE RUNNING SHOES from FitFeet - I won it by being the closest guess of the winning woman's time in the 1/2 I recently ran - I was off by four seconds. And as you know, they couldn't come at a better time bc I'm still wearing the shoes I started with in May, 2011 bc of sentimental reasons - this is a good reason to trade them in - any recommendations on what to get for those who wear new balance? so that's all my news and good running to everyone!
