Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 60 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

rubato, aka Tandy - Hi. My name is Tandy and I’m the mother of a fabulous 12 year old preteen son. :lovestruc I’ve been married to Frank (a non runner) for 18 years. I’m a full time student, going back to school to become a nurse. I have always run for fitness, but it wasn’t until my impending
40th birthday that I decided to become a distance runner. I love the miles and can’t wait to run my first ultra-marathon someday.

RunRookie, aka Rick - My name is Rick and I live in Crystal Lake, IL. I am married with three children (one 13yr old still at home). I am a new runner, having started in April 2011. My initial goals were to lose 160 pounds, improve my overall fitness, and to live a healthier lifestyle. Since then, I have run 15 races and lost 110 pounds! I am a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-Fi in general, Disney, photography, music, movies, and technology/gadgets. And I keep a fitness blog at rickpeete.squarespace.com.

RadioFanatic, aka KimberlyI'm 39 mama of an almost 4 year old boy, will be 40 by the race; and was goaded into doing this past 1/2 by friends who knew I could do it although I hadn't run a minute in my life. I started training on May 1, 2011 by doing couch to 5k and the first day was miserable where even running that minute made me want to die. Since then, I've lost 70 pounds, ran the whole 1/2 and am looking forward to my new goal. I'm planning on doing a 1/2 in april and in september, my first full in october here locally and some other 10k and 15k runs in between and my second and most exciting full on the 20th anniversary at disney!

KippWade, aka Kipp - I currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana. My doctors visit in January of 2011 had me at my heaviest weight ever, 282 pounds. It was at this point that I told myself this has to stop. Before moving to Indianapolis in September 2010, I worked with a guy that ran. He told me a lot about it and I had mentioned that I'd had some Disney friends say that we should try a run at Disney World. He convinced me that even I could do it. It took me until March of 2011 to finally start in with the C25K plan. I registered for the 2012 WDW 1/2 in April and committed myself to running. I progressed to Bridge to 10K and then Novice 1/2 Marathon Training by Hal Higdon. Since that doctors visit, I've managed to loose 40 pounds of the 100 I want to loose.

May.......I be first to post in May? Yes I believe I May be the first to post in May. Maybe I will be the one.

I went to the ortho doctor today and started the journey to getting my achillies healed up. I have been living with it for years and since I increased the intensity of training it's started getting more bothersome. I got a splint to wear when lounging and PT starts next week.

I've got an easy week planned since I have the Indy 5K and half back to back this weekend.

LOVE the title this month Bunnyfoo! and great job on the six miles!

I posted this on FB, but wanted to post it here to as it is a VERY special day for me:

One year ago today, I decided I needed to become healthy not only for myself but for my son. Bc of the pushing of my friends Mike and Claire Brookins, I decided I would take up running and complete a 1/2 marathon at Disney in January 2012. I'll never forget the first day, crying bc I had to run for one minute straight - the first time since gym in HS I ran. Since that time, I've lost over 80 pounds, run two Half Marathons, two 15K races, many more races and run over 1,0000 miles. Now I'm starting to train for a full marathon here in Albany in October and at Disney in January. Thanks to all who supported me!

Also, I thought I would repost by race report for my 1/2 on April 29th since I posted it so late:

My Rochester Flower City 1/2 Marathon yesterday was really amazing - I beat my disney time by 26 minutes and my hope for time by 9 minutes - I was 2:21:06 which was better than I ever hoped! It was a sunny and beautiful day - the race start was cold at 30 degrees but no wind and I got warmed up soon enough. The course for the most part was really nice - running through all the historic sections, the great neighborhoods etcera; however, my husband who is from there, said the course would be flat - well it was except for miles 6-8 - wow! what hills! thankfully, the first major hill which was tough, had a HUGE neighborhood turnout which really helped with the motivation - which was much needed - then we went into a long cemetary run - called Mt. Hope (would have thought that would have given me a clue) which was not only hilly, but one part had a HUGE incline on cobblestones- which for this klutz is not very good - thankfully I got through that okay, but once those two miles were done, I was really worried I was tapped out. Thankfully, a gatorade drink later, I felt better and was still off! The stations were every two miles which was good - at mile 11 a renegade mountain goat running group set up their own station a few feet down from an official station - a beer station "last beer before the finish line!" I give people who actually took it a lot of credit - it smell AWFUL to me and having run 11 miles and needing to run 2 more, there was no way in heck I was going to take it - the smell alone was ghastly! It was amazing to see my dh and 4 year old son waving for me a little bit from the finish line - gave me a last boost before I crossed! It was a great day, I'm tired but feel good today, and can't wait for my next one! One funny note, I left for the race earlier with my friend so dh and son could come later. I guess the wake up call in the hotel came, my dh picked up, hung it up and fell back asleep. My four year old yelled at him "papa, you do NOT ignore a wake up call. we need to see mama at the finish line. Hurry and wake up!" and then my dh said my son was a drill sargent the rest of the time, telling dh to hurry up with his shower, getting dressed, finding parking, etc. Dh said it probably was a good thing as it got him going - so my son got a big ice cream as a thank you!

I took monday and tuesday off to rest the legs but will be back tomorrow morning. Has anyone started training for a marathon in the oct/nov time frame? I would love to see your strategy - although I have two 15k races in bw, I'm unsure if I should be training specifically for the marathon yet or not - thanks!

Congrats on your achievements with fitness and weight loss! Happy Fitness Anniversary! :goodvibes

I was supposed to go for a run this morning but the body had other plans. So I slept two more hours instead. So tomorrow then... :rotfl:

I am running the Chicago Marathon in October (my first) and I plan on starting my training in mid-June, after I complete my 39.3 mile AVON Walk for Breast Cancer on June 2-3. I have a training plan laid out, but I am considering signing up for a training program with an RRCA running club. If I do that, I would work with the coach to make adjustments as necessary.

Thanks so much Rick! What plan are you using if you do it on your own? I would love some insight - thanks! When in October is your marathon? Mine is 10/7.

Dave: good luck with your Achilles, hopefully it makes you better than ever!

Kimberley: Congrats on the anniversary of the start of your healthy lifestyle. I lost 80 lbs as well, although it took me more than a year. Like you, my kids were a big motivating factor. I wanted to be around for them long term, and you don’t see a whole lot of obese old people around. Also, congrats on the PR in the race. An official beer station in a race? Never heard of that before…that would be funny to see. I do hope to time my WDW marathon correctly enough to arrive in World Showcase when the beer carts are open to grab brew in the final mile.

Rick: Congrats on your PR again. A stadium finish sounds awesome; I hope to experience it sometime. My first marathon is in October too (the 14th!) and I have already started increasing my long runs past the ½ marathon distance. I don’t know about you, but I seem to be much more nervous and apprehensive about my first full than Goofy. Maybe it is because my only goals for the Sunday part of Goofy are to have fun and not get swept!

AFM: went for a 16 miler Sunday. For the first time, I tried taking regular walk breaks at a 10:1 ratio. While it did allow me to drink and eat a Cliff bar easier, I didn’t find my legs to be any less tired as I pushed beyond the half marathon distance. Still, I am going to try it for my half on the 20th as I follow the 1:50 run/walk pace group. I still have the unpleasant memory of my October race where I resolved to stay ahead of the 1:50 group only to have them blow past me around mile 9

Have a good day everyone
Robbie

Morning all!

Dave...Hope the splint and PT help your Achilles. Good luck in Indy this weekend. We will be there as well, but not for the races. Our granddaughter is getting baptized that Sunday.

Kimberly...I saw your post on FB and was so inspired! I had no idea that you had lost so much weight! Way to go on making the decision to get healthy and sticking with it!:cheer2:

Vicky...I know what you meant on the last page. April really went by fast! Maybe because it only has 30 days? Also, could you add Ken and my anniversary to the page? July 10.

AFM...Got out this morning and put in two miles. Felt good at the time, but my left knee seems a bit puffy now...not really swollen, just feels funny. Happy to report that as of last week, I have lost the four pounds I gained in Israel plus one more. Will weigh again tomorrow to see if there's any more change.

Anyone here considering the Princess Half next year? Ken can't get away for the half in January, so since I've never done the Princess, I'm thinking about going down with a girlfriend to do it instead. After all, it would be another medal to add to my collection!

Thanks so much Rick! What plan are you using if you do it on your own? I would love some insight - thanks! When in October is your marathon? Mine is 10/7.

The Chicago Marathon is on Oct 7th as well! Cool! PM me your email and I can send you my training plan.

man, you and I are totally on the same page. The Full intimidates me just from the perspective of whether my feet will survive it. I worry more about sore feet than sore legs right now. I figure that if I can train to finish the Full in Chicago, then the Goofy is doable since running back-to-back 5K & Halfs is no problem for me right now.

I won't start my longer Long Runs until after my AVON Walk on June 2-3. Then I have another Half on June 10th. Then my Full training plan will kick in. Not planning to go farther than 20 miles in a Long Run. I am thinking of running the whole 26.2 but I might change that to a 1-mile run/1-minute walk depending upon how the training goes.

Month of May - It's time for the greatest spectacle in racing... The Indianapolis 500!

Yeah, IndyCar fan here :)

Mike & Rick - Congrats on the Illinois run over the weekend!

AFM - I had a lazy Saturday and got onto the Treadmill-o-Doom on Sunday. I've been having some... issues... once I hit about the 1 to 2 mile mark on my run. For the month of May and being an Indianapolis resident, lets just say I need to make a quick pit-stop. I thought it might be the sport mix I've been using while I run, but Sunday I just had water during my run. So that nixed that idea.

I'm sweating quite a bit when I run inside on the treadmill, so I'm wondering if I'm just not getting enough water throughout the day. Well, I can probably answer that, no. I've been falling back on diet soda (darn you Diet Dr Pepper!) quite a bit lately again. I'll make a conscious effort to cut it back again and head for the water fountain and hopefully it'll make the difference tomorrow.

As for tonight, there has been severe weather moving through, so definitely no outside running and with lightning being VERY active, no treadmill either. Tomorrow it is!

Hi Team!

Mary- Thanks! I think I read in one of my marathon books that Braveheart comes pretty close to 3 hours? Other than that though the most I’ve been able to come up with is about 2.5 hours. :) Sounds like you’re getting back into the exercise routine now that you’re home. Hope you had a great trip to CO! And congrats on the weight loss!! That is great news!! I am not planning on the Princess half next year but it has been on my “to do” list. Some day I will make it there.

Elizabeth- LOL yeah there’s no way I would last 16 miles on the TM with ESPN or CNN. :faint: That sounds pretty miserable. How is your back feeling?

Lynn- Are maple spam donuts good? They sound interesting. Hope you and Scott have a wonderful trip!!

Rick- Early time is the best to get those long runs done on the TM. It’s amazing what something to pay attention to will do for the long TM runs. Congrats on your PRs this past weekend!! Glad you and Mike had a great run.

Kipp- Great job on your fartleks on the TM at 5.6 and 5.0! That’s awesome! I hope you can find a barber you like! I think if you keep up with the stretching and yoga your flexibility will get better. Could the problem with your runs have anything to do with the food you ate before the run and not necessarily the sports drink or water?

Saylan- Why doesn’t your mom want you to run Goofy?

Robbie- That’s right! I forgot how long the Lord of the Rings movies are. Thanks for the suggestion! The Red Island Relay sounds like fun! Looking forward to hearing how the 10/1 intervals work for you when you run with the pace group on your race later this month.

Kimberly- Congrats on your PR on your race this past weekend and congrats on your 1 year of being more healthy! That is awesome!!! Great race report! And yay to your hubby on finding a way to get to Disney!!! LOL your son sounds very cute! :goodvibes I’m glad he didn’t let your DH fall back asleep. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope it all works out for you. Haha, thanks! The first time I did the 16 miles on the TM it was awful. I guess it gets easier as you go.

Emily-I hope your run on Sunday went well!

Kim- Hope you had a great cruise.

Vicky- Your bagel bombs looked delicious!! Good luck on your race this weekend!

Dave- I hope your Achilles treatment goes well.

AFM, I had a lazy week last week. However, I made it out for a 4 mile run last night and it felt pretty good. I am now tapering for the race on the 18th. And, while DH, Sydney and I were running we saw a doe prancing along ahead of us. That is a first for us while running so it was pretty neat! It made the run just a little bit better I think.

Oh, and Vicky helped talk me into going back to WDW solo next year since DH wants a break from traveling just for races. He said “I want a relaxing beach vacation.” :rolleyes1 LOL I don’t blame him. He gave me his blessing to go and said have fun! So I have officially signed up for Goofy again and am super excited to see you all and do it again! And he and I will take a “relaxing” vacation later in the year (next year) before he goes to A school. I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Wow so many inspirational stories you are all awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My motivation is coming back, slowly but it is coming back. Need to just get my training settled I keep flipping between what I need to do. Was kinda just wanting to concentrate on weight loss only but want to continue with intervals so need to find a balance and it is alot harder then I thought. Also want to limit the high impact cardio outside of my intervals because of being overweight do not want to risk a reinjury to my hip or messing up my knees. I am not where I wanted to be in my weight loss at this point so need some quick modifications....uuggghhhhh

Does anyone have a good smoothie recipe out there? Only thing is I want it to be all natural with no protien powders and that I can't seem to find.

Dave: I have no doubt you will rebound after tackling the Achilles issue and be even more speedy! The Panda has the "pedal to the metal" now!

Kim: I can sympathize about not being where you want to be weight-wise. My weight has been stubbornly in the same place for a few months now. I really want to get it down before my Full in October and I am way behind in that goal. But as my friends keep reminding me, it took so many years to gain all my weight and it will take several years to lose it all (if done sensibly). Finding that balance is definitely the challenge. So we just have to give ourselves some 'grace' and have some patience while we keep doing what we need to do to stay healthy, improve our fitness, and get slimmer. I purposely submitted a smaller t-shirt size for the 2013 Goofy so I better get my weight down enough to be able to wear it! :rotfl2:

AFM: Well, so far May has not been very productive fitness-wise. :confused3 My hip was bothering me a bit on Monday so I decided to not to go out for a run. Then Tuesday, it was still bothering me (plus I was so tired), so I went to the gym after work and sat in the Jacuzzi for 20 minutes, and then did 16 'walk laps' in the pool.

Today, I skipped a 6-mile walk to get more sleep. Not so sure why I am feeling so tired. So now, my hip feels almost normal. So I am thinking I may get a 4-6 mile run in on Thursday after work, and then do my scheduled 13-mile Walk on Saturday morning.

Not the most productive week, but sometimes maybe it is good to just have a "rest week" instead of just a "rest day". :lmao:

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi team! Hope everyone is doing well! Work has been busy and then I've been here, there and everywhere else in my spare time. It's not as easy posting from my phone unfortunately :(

Kim - What kind of smoothie are you looking for? Meal replacement? Basic fruit? Post-run recovery? Dessert? The reason I'm asking is because I have several recipes but they're all different in terms of calories and nutrition. I recently bought a 6lb container of protein, I can give you some on Saturday if you want some.

Regina - Thanks for the compliment on the bagel post! Hopefully I wasn't too bad of an influence but I am happy you're coming to WDW in January! And Goofy too :thumbsup2 Woohoo!

A few other long movies are Titanic, Dances with Wolves, Forest Gump, Pearl Harbor, Dark Knight (I think) and then some classics Lawrence of Arabia, Sound of Music and My Fair Lady.

Kipp - I've run in down pours. The best is when you see another runner and you can give each other the "Are you crazy??" look because you're both drenched. Lightning always scares me, I usually turn around and go home at that point. I  Diet Dr. Pepper too!

Mary - Will get your anniversary up on the calendar! Making a girl's weekend for the Princess race sounds like a fun idea :) Good job on the weight loss! :thumbsup2 I hope your knee is feeling better today!

Rick - Which training plan are you using for the full? I've used Higdon's novice plan in the past. Great RR and congrats on your PRs!

Robbie - I never learned to run continuously because I always use the run/walk intervals. What are your tips for running while eating or drinking? I've never been able to seem to master that. Have you done a 20 miler yet? I was just curious because I remember you posting about 16 but I couldn't remember if you tried 20.

Kimberley - Happy healthy anniversary! Great RR! And congrats on your PR :) Your son sounds way too cute trying to get DH out the door to spectate!

Mike - Safe travels and good luck this weekend!

Saylan - How are you feeling for Sunday?

AFM - The knee is still kind of so-so. My chiro proposed doing an acupuncture treatment on my ITB tonight. But you guys know how I feel about needles! :scared1: I did go out for a run last night and even though it was slow, I still felt pretty good. I'm back at the gym tonight for a workout before my knee treatment. And hopefully I'll be able to get out for a short run on Thursday as well.

I put up a post for a sundried tomato quiche on my blog. Check it out if you have a chance :goodvibes

Oh ... I was at a bulk foods store yesterday carrying containers of brown sugar, coarse sugar and glucose. I put them down on the counter to pick up something else and the guy said to me "You really like sugar!" :cutie: Umm... yeah I do

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Yesterday we had a lot of rain and tornadoes in the area. Today, mostly sunny and mid to high 80's!

So I ran outside :) WOOF! I put in a 3.25 miler and I didn't realize how much I was sweating until I got home. It was pretty breezy out there today, so it was enough for me to not notice that I was drenched.

I went though a full 16oz bottle of sport mix in my water bottle tonight too!

I'm really looking forward to going to the Mini Marathon Expo Friday after work. Another co-worker might come along, as he's thinking about getting a new pair of running shoes. I'm hoping to find a deal or two on some new running shorts. I now have way more shirts than shorts due to picking up a couple of shirts during the WDW Marathon Expo :)
