Hakuna Matata - Marching in like Lions!

Hi Everyone! Hope your Tuesday is going well.

Vicky, I passed on Ottawa. Hotels were $$$$$. I'm doing Mississauga. DH is not running. He has his tris schedule setup for the year & is also doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer.

Margie, Did you make it to the gym?

I will be out tonight for 5 as long as the weather cooperates.

Sue

Good Afternoon Team! :wave2:

Let us know how you are doing, so we can share your awesome weight loss and the excitement! Connie, Dave, Kim, MaryJ, Mike, Robert, Scott, & Vicky.

Team Race Calendar Updated to here- 1st Page; Post #2
Please tell us what races & dates you have registered for and we will add them to the team calendar!

Kristie- Did your DH gets any answers from yesterday’s calls on the part you need?

Mike Thanks Much! My little Hagen is on antibiotics. He is some better, but still not feeling great. Actually he is very grumpy unless he can have some chocolate! So it only took a few chocolate covered raisins to make this a very happy afternoon.

Sue- Enjoy your Run! No Gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I have to leave early to get a child ready for school.

Vicky- with extra kids, DD health, lack of real training time I have not been able to make definite commitment to any race right now. I dislike registering and not being able to go ... really-really makes me feel bad. :headache:

Wishing you Sunshine and great training moments! :rainbow:

Hi Everyone,

So I ended up running around our neighborhood last night instead of on the TM b/c when we got to the gym, all TMs were taken! :confused3 Note to self- there is a reason Monday nights are NOT my favorite night to go to the gym.

I guess we are officially in spring now right? :woohoo: I sure hope the weather starts to get a little more consistent with sunshine!

Dave- LOL, well if you're that crazy, I'm sure you're crazy enough to actually pass some of the runners! How fast are you able to walk?

Vicky- Sounds like good practice. I hope the weather's nice! It seems like you've got some time to decide whether or not you want to go to W&D. We're trying to decide how long we will be able to stay. We probably won't decide for sure until we get closer to October. Tough decision when there's a lot you want to do and only so much $$ to go around.

Mary- Wow! What a mess. Sounds like EE might be worth checking out at some point down the road though. We have cell phone insurance as well. Those phones are not cheap!

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

Sue there is a 1/2 in Buffalo the last weekend in May. There are some WISHer's going to be there. Fee was fairly cheap when I booked, not sure what it is now and we booked the host hotel which was quite reasonable as well.

Vicky: Are you ready for this weekend? Do you know if they do runner tracking?

Good morning y'all.

I had a nice training walk yesterday, 5 miles on my hill route, total time was 1 hr 32 seconds, for a pace of 12:06 per mile. Then I got called into work early so no nap. Darn.

Today is a hard 6 to 8 miler with my rarc walking team, we will push it today and then rest the next two days before the half on Saturday. It's going to be 70 today but right now when we doing our training it's only 36 degrees.

I curious to see what my half time is this weekend, I haven't done a half for time before. Another walker and I are going to be the only walkers in a run race, it's got a 3 hour time limit but that should be no problem at all. We are planning a sub 2:45 time. It's hilly and through the countryside so it will be interesting.

There is a 5K the same day and the other members of Team Panda are going to compete in it. It has a walk class with some good competition. Looking for a first and second place there.

Everyone have a magical day.

Dave:hippie:

Dave good luck this weekend!!! You will rock this thing.

We are doing the half instead of the 5K walk race because we are showing them that walkers can complete the race well under the 3 hr time limit. I have been trying to get them to include a walk class in the race. It's our only local half so it needs to be open to walkers as well as runners.

Definately!!!!!! They need to allow walkers, we are people to:flower3:
Is there walker tracking Dave so we can follow you?

Hey Kids I am home, yeah. Weather has turned on us and I hope it dies out before it hits you all to the east of us.

Better get busy here at work.

AFM: I did not want to go but…I did make it to the gym last night for a short warm up on the DM and lower body weights. Not a wake – did not want to go, but did go to the gym this morning. :sad2:
DM and upper body workout. Bike tonight...

Enjoy the moments!

Good Morning Team!

I have the morning off - our office closed yesterday at 2:30 and is not opening today until 10 AM because of our snow. It is very nice having a few extra hours off!

I have been waiting for the weather to improve to walk the dogs, but it is getting worse, it is so foggy now that I cannot see the house across the street, I swear the temp is getting colder, and the wind is picking up - so the dogs may have to give up their walk, and I will head downstairs to the spin bike for my exercise.

Regina - Yes, we have been doing DL half for several years now. Our first year was the year that it was 106 degrees when I finished:scared1: Where in Idaho are you from? I may have missed it if you said - we lived in Jackson for 29 years before moving to Cheyenne - so we are pretty familiar with Idaho. It is good to have someone else from the west on the team!

Dave - good luck on your race!

Robert - how is the far west faring?

Good luck to all others racing!:cheer2::cheer2:

Sun it trying to break thru - may go outside afterall - Have a great week all!

Dave:hippie:

I allow walkers in my Half. I actually have people planning to take 4-5 hours. I want everyone to have a chance to play!

The weather continues to be beautiful out here with temps in the 70's.

Off to an LSD.............

I like the way you think Robert. The directors here still look at walkers as second class athletes. They are fine with 5K walk races but not the longer races. They have a 3 hr time limit on this half.

Dave:hippie:

Good Afternoon Team! :wave2:

Dave, what race are you doing?
Sorry, the race I have you down for welcomes walkers. :flower3:
I will go back and correct all the post-

Hakuna Matata Team Weekend Racers!

March 27th Mike & Liz -Penguin in the Park / 5k
March 28th Dave – Run For Children / Half Marathon
March 28th Vicky – Around the Bay Road Race / 30K

I'm doing a half on Saturday the 27th, called the Run For Children. It's a local race that draws about a 150 for the half and about 500 for the 5K, the 5K has a walk catagory but the half doesn't.

Dave:hippie:

That's great that you do that Robert cause alot of 1/2's I find have a shorter time limit and just not comfortable for me as a walker I think the fastest I could do one right now is 3:10 my fastest ever was 3:04:29 and I thought I was moving pretty good.

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick posting today. I did my run/walk for 6/1 for 49 minutes. Covered 4.51 miles. Walked the rest back for a total of 7.25 or so. Cloudy day, not many people on the path.

-----------

Regina~ sounds like you are on the same program as my wife, shes at the 10/1 rate and is making a strong comeback from ACL replacement
We love the EEC. The rain really was a monsoon last year, I was in the first wave off so I completed before the flood. There was six inches of water in the parking lot! My resort (POR AB) was flooded when I got back, had to wade to my building. I had alot of fun though!

Dave~Vicky~ Good luck this weekend! May you compete at your best and have a safe race!

Off to bed for me, big load at work tonight, Mike :cool2:

Dave, I'm a little confused about the problem with your half. Are they banning walkers or just not giving walker awards separately? I've yet to see a half or full (especially the larger ones) that separate walkers. The only unique walker thing I've seen is Little Rock and few others have an earlier start option. I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't see a problem unless they are completely banning walkers (which I really don't see as possible). I know around here the rule is walkers can enter "run" events, but you cannot run in a "walk" event.

AFM, Today was the first post-race run. 4 miles in 36 minutes.

Best,
Jennifer

Good Evening Team! :wave2:

Oh My - kids left by 7:15pm and I am ready for bed!

Mike-WTG nice training run

Jennifer- Oh My gosh-that is a great post run after your experience!
Did you have to go to the doctor for a check up?

Dave-Thanks will add the name of your race.

We have events here that include the judged race walking, but will not even give a ‘walker’ a chip. One race sponsored by the hospital here has running and judged race walking. The other categories are charged the same $$ for registration, but are not timed and no recognition.

I do not enter any races that do not have recognition for walkers. It is a matter of principle for me. We pay the same entry fee we should have the same recognition. :headache: Check the numbers-if we stayed away they certainly would not have the funds to do half the things they do. Walkers at the back of the pack often see everything folded up, don't even get the water stations, much less any support.

No, I do not expect the same recognition or cash awards as the elite runners! :lmao:
But walkers still have a long way to go before we are not treated as just sub runners. :sad1:

Yes, I get really-really disgusted when they register as a walker and cheat by running or jogging! Not sure what they hope to prove-their chip time is a lie.

Later...

Jennifer, walking is a sport, just as running is a sport, I'm shooting for, as Margie said, walker recognition. We often outnumber the runners but there are usually no awards for walkers. We do have several good 5K races that are held in conjunction with the run races but start usually 5 min after the run race starts.

I have been having a dialog with this group for a couple of years and they give walker awards for the 5K but don't encourage walkers for the half since they want to keep the time limit at 3 hours. We have several local walkers who can beat that time limit easily and more would come from the Tri State area.

In the 5K they have red numbers for walkers and black for runners, they could do the same for the half.
