Hakuna Matata - Jazzed for January

Hi Stacey.....!!!!:wave2:

So is everyone getting the 2013 fitness plan in gear, sounds like quite a few of us are in again for Goofy 2015 so need some short term goals to get there. I have been working on mine and although I was going to get back at it this week, I have had a change of plans, I need to do a bit of spring cleanning so to speak so this week I am focused on cleanning up my diet, which although it is early I am feeling realy good about. I also have some stuff in the house to do that is taking up some time like still unpacking :) so will work out my short and long term goals this week and will incorporate the exercise back in starting Saturday, also I think with all the walking I did over the last 12 days my legs could use a rest :)

Is everyone else working on their goals?

Hi team!

It's a :cold: and snowy day here in Toronto! I don't mind the snow but the cold is tough - I lost my mitts before I left for Disney so I have to go and get those replaced. I left them on my lap when I was sitting on the train, I got up and forgot they were there :(

I'm recovering from a cold I caught just before I left Disney. I guess I was lucky that it didn't show up until after Goofy. It still was pretty unpleasant. Hung brought me some vitamin C packs which seemed to help. I seemed to have given him my cold in exchange  Ooops!

I'm working on my RR for Goofy so hopefully that will be out by the end of the week!

Some of my goals for the year are to get rid of 5-10 lbs. It's more for running than it is for asthetic purposes. I'd love to be able to run a half in 2:05 or faster and start looking for a different job :)

Stacey - So great meeting you, Jeff and Alicia :)

Kim/Rick - I'm missing all of those hugs and smiles too!

Lynn - Hope you and Scott are having fun in London. Are you going to be at DL this year?

Robbie - I dug out the training plan you sent me last year and I'm going to use it to train for my April half :)

Okay back to work for me ... Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello, everyone,

Stacey: Hi!

Lynn: Can't wait to hear about the trip.

Emily: How was the race?

Kim: I am trying to eat better this year too. Funny, I have no problem running for several miles but I can't seem to apply the same discipline to my diet.

Vicky: thanks for the PD for my mother. Unfortunately, she fell today and broke a tooth. I think it is time to reassess her care. So happy to to be training for NWM DC; it keeps my stress level low!

Robbie and Rick: Thanks for the feedback on my training plan. Robbie, I like what you said and plan to incorporate another long run. One thing I noticed when I look at the results of others who run better and faster than me is that they always run more.

AFM: 3 miles on the treadmill because it is too cold outside. 2014 is the 5th anniversary for the WDW Wine and Dine half, correct? I might wait to run that one instead of going this year. I want to run a half with those of you in Canada too; perhaps 2014 is the year for that too?

Hi team! It's still freezing cold here!

Elizabeth - Lots of PD for your mom! Sounds like she's having a bit of bad luck lately. Hopefully this means something good is around the corner. I'm going to start training for NWHM in February/March and give myself time to heal.

I have to get my eating back on track too especially if I'm cutting out my running for a bit. I usually just drop refined sugar from my diet and some carbs. I figure it will be easier to cut carbs if I'm not running.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

How is everyone doing this week? I know it is way cold for many of us! This morning I woke up and it was snowing... probably won't be enough to stick but it was nice. I find snow a very calming thing for me (as long as it isn't blizzard conditions).

Yesterday I went for my first run after Disney. Made it a TM run for 3.75 miles (3.13 of it actually running). I think my next three runs will be on the TM because my next Full is Surf City in California (Feb 3rd) and I want to do some runs in warm temps, even if it means the TM. My Long Run this weekend will be on the TM so I have to pick out a good movie for the iPad... LOL

Hopefully, my body will have recovered enough that I can do a good job in February (I have to finish within 6-hr time limit). I am shooting for Marathon Maniac membership and Disney was the first leg of the journey. Surf City is the second leg. And the Little Rock Marathon will be the final leg. I am praying that I can accomplish this (and come away without injury).

I am WISHing everyone a positive, productive, and 'practically perfect' week in every way! (I took a photo with Mary Poppins during the Full... I love her!) :)

Rick: Are you doing 3 marathons within 3 months? Amazing!

AFM: Ran 4 miles this morning on the treadmill. Just too cold outside for a run. The next 6 weeks are going to be a challenge for me. I'm cookie mom for Claire's Girl Scout troop again. That means I'll have about 200 cases of cookies in my garage. I fell to temptation several times last year; I hope this year I will be stronger. ;)

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

:wave2: all!

Ok, one of my goals is to check in more often than I have been. So here I am. :)

Vicky, sorry you caught a cold, I did too at the end, but it's still Disney!

Rick - WTG on the 3 in 3! You can do it! Lots of PD coming your way.

Elizabeth, PD for your mom as well.

Lynn - how's the trip going?

Similar to Kim, I'm taking the week to plan our a training plan and goals. Top of the list is weight loss. I know I want to do some local 5ks along the way, and maybe plan for a half in the fall for extra motivation, but the primary is to shed and get in better shape.

Hope everyone is bundling up and staying warm (I hear it's going to warm up next week a bit). Enjoy your day! :grouphug:

Hi Gang!

Got in 6 miles on the indoor track at the gym. Way too cold to run outside. However, I am thinking about signing up for a 5K here the second weekend in Feb.

Afraid that I'm finally getting my first cold of the winter. Rotten timing too, as we are going with the granddaughters to see Disney on Ice this weekend.

Vicky....hope your cold is better soon.

No run for me today. Now it is icy and the gym closed early. Hope to get out there tomorrow morning.

I'll spend much of the morning unloading and sorting boxes of Girl Scout cookies in the garage so that should give me a good workout. That is, as long as I don't eat any!

Adding another race to my schedule:

6/1: Lookout Capital 10k, Raleigh, NC

Happy Friday all! A few of us were talking over on Facebook about starting a weight loss challenge. Is anyone interested? We could track weight loss weekly by percentage like they do on Biggest Loser and have weekly Biggest Loser winner and then also have a points system to encourage healthy lifestyle habits. So there could potentially be two winners. The points could be earned by example:

Completing a weekly workout challenge ie. 15 pushups every day for the week = 1 point/day
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day = 1 point/day
Trying a new healthy food or recipe for the week = 1 point/week
40 minutes of exercise/day = 1 point/day
Eating a multivitamin daily = 1 point/day
Eating five servings of fruits and veggies daily = 1 point/day

Everyone would keep track of their points for the week and then report back on Friday with their totals. We can start on February 1st, go for a month and see how it goes from there.

If you have any ideas/suggestions, I'm open for them :) Let me know what you think.

I like the point suggestions and look forward to doing this. How specific do we get on Fridays? Just give total number of points or tell everyone exactly what the points are from? And how so we calculate the percentage?

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - PD for your cold! We do not know about DL yet, not planning on it at this point, but who knows. I will be in on the challenge, sounds similar to what we did last year, right?

Elizabeth - Sounds like a good training schedule. Hope the car issues have been resolved. PD for your mothers tooth! Good luck with the Girl Scout cookies!

Kim - (hugs)

Mary - Good luck training for the Princess.

Rick - Good luck on your training!

Stacey - Thanks, we had a great trip!

AFM - We had a great trip to London, and I actually LOST weight on a vacation (holiday)! We had a great flat near the Underground, we spent a day at the London Bike Show and saw members of the Sky Bicycling team, and saw their new “kit” (jersey), spent a morning at the Twickenham Rugby Stadium and Museum (Scott is into Rugby), saw lots of the normal tourist sites - Tower of London, British Museum, and lots of little museums like the Cartoon Museum, the Transport Museum. Flying first class was wonderful! I am afraid I really got spoiled by those lay down seats on the 10 hr flights! It was the “Freeze of the Decade” there, and the snow (about an inch) and the cold temps made the front page of the news. We spend a day with friends who live north of London who came into town for the day.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

So with the points, if you drank 8 glasses of water and took a multivitamin every day that week then you would get (7+7) 14 points. You only count the days that you achieved that goal. So if you only drank water on 6 of the 7 days, you'd only get 6 points instead of 7.

The percentage of weight loss is calculated this way. Let's say week 1, I weigh 150 lbs. If I lose 2lbs that week, my percentage of weight loss is 1.33%. For week 2, the starting weight would be 148 lbs and if you lost another 2lbs, your percentage of weight loss would be 1.35% and your starting weight for week 3 would be 146.

Make sense? Let me know. I can clarify :)

Hey Lynn welcome back!!!!! Was following your vacation through Scott's FB posts. Very cool.

Vicky: thanks for your work on this, I have to get better at keeping track of what I do.

Looking forward to starting with you all, my challenge with my DD has already started but then again I have alot of weight to lose so need a jump start :)

Hi All!!

It's been a rough couple of weeks for me. I started back to work the Tuesday after marathon weekend and by Thursday end of work I had a fever of 104F! I took off work Friday and Monday, with me finally shaking the fever that Monday!

I'm still battling a bit of a cough now, but whatever it was last weekend, I felt a bit like death warmed over.

I feel like I've been playing catch up at work for 2 weeks now! I'm hoping this upcoming week things will get settled back into a normal pace.

I've still now written anything in my Blog about Marathon weekend, nor have I even written anything in there for quite some time! I finally imported my pictures and a lot of you saw them linked in the Facebook page. I was SOOO disappointed when my camera battery died just after coming through the Castle during the half! :(

I've been tossing around the idea of doing the Indy Mini on May 4, but some others may be considering the Cincinnati Flying Pig events that same weekend. So I'm rather torn on which I may sign up for. The bank statement right now is telling me to stay local :( I'd better make up my mind very soon, as I've figured my training schedule would need to start up after the Super Bowl.

Yikes, Kipp sorry you were feeling so bad. Seems like quite a few people came home with the flu.

I am also still playing catch up at work, no one does my work while I am away so it takes awhile to catch up 12 days:(

Kim

Good Morning Team!

Kim - Thanks, yes, Scott is much better about posting on FB than I am. Good luck on the work catch up!

Kipp - Hope you feel better soon!

AFM - It was very nice yesterday, got out on bikes to mailbox to get the newspaper, but wind came up later and we did not brave it for bike ride. I did get to the basement for weights and 30 min on the spin bike, and a dog walk. We are expecting colder weather and snow for the next 3 days, and Wed. is our initial consult with the Orthopod about knee replacements.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Ok gang! I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible. What do you think of points system? I don't want to make it overly complicated - remember someone is going to have to keep track of everything :) Going by Robbie's suggestion each 10 points earned will equal 1 entry to the prize raffle.

Weight loss (per week)
Maintaining goal weight (+/- 2lbs) = 2 points
Biggest Loser for the week (by percentage) = 3 points

Exercise
Completing a weekly workout challenge ie. 15 pushups every day for the week = 1 point/day
1 hour of exercise = 1 point

Healthy eating
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day = 1 point/day
Trying a new healthy food or recipe for the week = 1 point/week
Taking a multivitamin daily = 1 point/day
Eating five servings of fruits and veggies daily = 1 point/day
Eating two servings of dairy a daily = 1 point/day

One time points
3 points for every percentage of starting weight you lose (eg lose 5% of starting weight; get 15 points at end of contest)
Reaching your goal weight = 10 points
Achieving a race PB = 10 points

Lynn - Good job on the workouts! I can't remember if I asked but do you need to put on snow tires or anything special to ride the bikes in the winter? Are you waiting to hear back on the knee replacements before planning your next trip? And congrats on losing weight during your London trip! You'll have to share your secret :)

Kim - Same here. No one covers for me while I'm gone. Not fair at all so I feel your pain! That's fantastic that you have a competition going on with DD! It's always a great when you have a partner in crime so to speak :)

Kipp - Sorry to hear about the bug you have! If it's anything like mine, it's pretty stubborn. I'm going to check out your RR/blog once I'm done posting here. Sorry to hear about your camera battery. If there are any pics you'd like from the half that I have, let me know and I can mail you a copy. If you're able to split a hotel room and ride with someone, then go for the Flying Pig. But I hear ya - out of town races are definitely pricey!

Elizabeth - I saw your pic on FB of all the Girl Scout cookies! Wow! Does everyone have to sell the same amount of cookies or do people pre-order and that determines how many boxes you get? I will get your race added to the calendar!

AFM - I had a pretty relaxing weekend but I have to say that I miss running. I'm giving myself another couple of weeks to make sure my Achilles is good to go. I don't want to start training and then have to stop again because of an injury.

I registered for Dumbo. I'm not sure that was the best idea but I figure it's going to be a one and done race :) But other than that, I haven't added any other races to my schedule yet.

I finished the first half of my race report for the Disney World Half. If you want to see it, I posted it on my blog: http://menubyvicky.com/2013/01/28/race-report-disney-world-half-marathon-2013/

Ok I'd better get back to work! Hope everyone is having a great day :)
