Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Hey everyone!

We've been having thunderstorms off and on all day, so I only managed to get in 2 miles (16 minutes) before it was two much. On the bright side it should cool things down for a while, of course I head up to school on Wednesday.

I forgot to mention another cool story. I ran into an old friend from when I did gymnastics at my last race. She's about 3 years younger than me and now runs college cross country (which made me really excited to beat her). That combined with the Olympics has made me feel really athletically nostalgic and yesterday I did a round off backhandspring in the backyard and am happy that I didn't break anything. lol. I think I'll stick to running now.

Best,
Jennifer

Hi guys.

I met with the general manager of the Total Fitness Connection chain of health clubs today. I was just wanting to get a free membership for racing and training wearing shirts with their logo. Well it seems that I must sing for my supper instead. They want me to work for them. I would basicly have a free hand to build a walking program. The success of the pogram would determine my compensation. They are going to do flyers and offer the program to current members and new members, the rest is up to me.

So I need to put together a bio to tell members what I have to offer them. Then put together a class plan to teach people to walk more efficiently for fitness and later competition if they desire.

Another area I can gain from is the PTs can turn people over to me that are ready to move from PT to light exercise like walking. Also helping people put together a program of exercise for weight control.

I have a huge gym with an enclosed area with 4 tennis courts that has a track around it I can use for my walkers. Then a big aerobics room for sretching instruction.

So now I need to put it all together and see what comes of it.

Denise, I've never had that finger thing, could be worse the middle finger could be locked open.:upsidedow

So Margie, I wear cute little shoes? :)

My workout today was a mix of everything: I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill, upper body weights and then stretching and core work. Then 2 hours of push mowing the yard.

Have a great evening y'all.

Dave sounds pretty interesting, but as I well know you will make it happen if it is ment to be.

Thanks, Erica!
Wow...8-miles on the Dreadmill - You Go Girl!

:hippie: Impressive commitment, but it does sound like it would be something you would be interested in.

:cheer2: Jennifer :cheer2: back-handspring they would be treating me at the nearest emergency room - then admit me with broken stuff for a MONTH!

The swelling goes down some each day. I made an appointment for Thursday PM for a foot massage with someone who is experienced with PF issues. :goodvibes

Hello, Team!

Did you all think I'd fallen from the face of the earth??? Not quite, but I must admit to falling off the fitness wagon a bit, or, at least hanging on only by my fingernails and dragging my feet behind! :lmao: However, I am back on track now and paying for my sins....Connie is being her usual knowledgeable and supportive self and is helping me get (and stay!) back on track.

I am too far behind on posts to even try to read them all, so I will just start from here.

Dave, what an interesting proposal! Are you looking at possibly doing that full time if it works out for you?

Erica - Wow! Eight miles on the treadmill! Good for you!

Margie, sounds like you are having some foot problems....I hope you're better soon!

Denise, you are your usual busy self! I am always amazed at all the things you're juggling while still managing to work out!

Jennifer, I don't know that we've "met" before. A belated "Welcome" to you! But....roundoff back handspring? PLEASE My back is aching just from reading about it!

Scott and Lynn - retirement awaits! How exciting! How's the house coming along?

Sue and Bunnyfoo, glad to see you're both still plugging along! Way to go!

I will try to check in a couple of times a week to see how everyone's doing!

Kathy, welcome lady, I haven't heard from you for a while. Connie assured us you were still in the hunt. No I would never do that full time it would never pay enouth for that. I might do it as a hobby after I retire though.

Margie, no dear I have the blue ones.

Back flips? No.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Kathy good to see ya here again, glad you are getting back after it.

Morning all, 2 days o work left then DL and DCL and WDW yeah!!!!!

Got a short run in this morn, guess I am thinking taper.

Have a good one.

Hi!

Went out this am at 4:59 not 5 but 4:59 and it was about 55 degrees. PERFECT. We hadn’t walked since Saturday and as guilty as I felt, I’m glad I gave my hip a rest. I also took some of my neck meds to help me sleep and release the muscle in my hip. What a blessing,no pain and a good nights sleep.

I feel GREAT today. Yikes, look out, Denise is feeling good. :scared1: Generally I get myself in trouble when I’m pain free.

Dave - I was thinking the same thing about the fingers.

Today it's better as I did a lot of stretching that whole back finger stretch and it has helped. I too take off all my jewelry when I walk as I tend to swell also. Makes the wrinkles in my face disappear too :woohoo:

Oh well, have a good one will catch up with all the posts later, I’m at work and Tuesday is a busy phone day.

Denise, remember wrinkles just go where smiles have been.

Good morning team.

I'm still trying to get my princess out the door for our walk, she had leg twitchies last night and didn't sleep well. Is that like when a dog is dreaming? Maybe she dreamed she was chasing me with that paint ball gun again.

Denise, glad you are feeling good again, look out world, she is loose!!!

Margie, you started something with that cute shoe thing.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - sounds good - you will "publish" here your class when you get it together won't you - your teammates that are too far away to take the class personally would love to "audit" it! And - you never said if working for the fitness center gets you and Erica a free membership!

Erica - your milage has been really impressive - especially 8 miles on a treadmill! I never last much more than 2-3 miles on a treadmill!

Kathy - good to hear from you again - the basement is going pretty well, Scott posted the newest pictures a few pages back.

Denise - I always take off my rings before exercizing also, my fingers swell terribly, but I never had any experience with "trigger finger".

Margie - glad to hear the foot is getting better!

I tried a new tape configuration on my knees this morning that I found on the Kinesio website - so I had to do a decent walk to see how it worked! So, although today was supposed to be a cross train day, the dogs and I went out for another 6 miles. So far, my knees feel better than they have been, so I may go with this new tape scheme for the 1/2 marathon. I also did a better walk than yesterday, I did beat the sweepers today! I am really glad that I usually walk faster in races than training, or I would be really worried about the upcoming race!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everybody!!

Did a fantastic 6 miler with Dave in 14:35 pace... this is the fastest pace since I came back from surgery!!!!!

Hope everybody has a really good night!!

Erica:)

Hey everyone!

I did 4.25 today at an 8:55 pace. I'm working towards the 10k (hopefully at a sub-9 pace) in early October.

The weather was great for running low-70s slightly misty. I loved it.

I'll be kind of MIA the rest of the week as I'm heading up to school and will have little internet access until I move back in.

Good luck to anyone headed out to Disneyland!!

Jennifer

Wow..I'm in catch up mode again! I had a super busy couple of days at work and it's not going to calm down until I leave on vaca. I still have 3 and a half more days of work...and they are all going to suck! I'll need WDW for sure!

Erica - WTG on that pace!! You are kicking butt and taking names across the board!!

Jennifer - Safe travels to ya!

Scott/Lynn - Can't wait for the race report from the DLH!! I'm excited for you! Safe travels to ya and good luck!

Dave - You have the personality to be terrific at that job. It seems as more of a salesperson gig than anything since you have to get it off the ground. My DBF is in sales and does great. He's honest and sincere and it shows in his work...therefore people like and trust him. I feel that you come across the same. You should do just fine!!

Well..that's my catch up for this "page" at least. Hoipe the rest of you are well. I'll be hit or miss the next 4 days...then it's WDW and you guys won't here from me for a whole week :earsgirl: (aww..I'm gonna miss you guys!)

Take care of the injuries and train smart...hydrate even if it is cooling off!!!

-Eva

Eva having a tough week at work will make the vacation that much sweeter. Are you wearing your ears to work?

Yes Erica is doing super, she is driven to be the breathtakingly beautiful woman again outside, that she is on the inside.

Lynn and Scott, are you getting excited yet about ToT and January or you have to get through the DisneyLand half first?

Margie and Connie how are y'all feeling?

Kimmer, Bunny and Wilber, is it starting to be cool in the mornings there yet?

Denise are you keeping everyone straight up there in the north?

Jennifer have a great time.

Hi Kathy.

I'm off to the gym to chase the pudge.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Did get to the gym yesterday, but the rest of the day was way hectic. Need to get a walk in tonight. I actually need a training schedule for the Detroit Half in October.

Connie, did I miss an update...how is your shoulder? :flower3:

Erica - Great Time on your 6-miler! You have come back from the surgery with the force of a little whirlwind! :cool1:

:hippie: I like cute shoes :goodvibes

My foot is getting better. The swelling goes down some each day. The knot is still there. I have scheduled a foot massage for Thursday PM. :goodvibes

DL WISHers -Safe Travels and Enjoy the Moments! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Lynn, Glad you have found a knee wrap that is help. I think your training walks are GOOD - we do some speed training is good but that is not meant for every walk.

Another fab 5 miles this morning. We can tell school is starting in some communities as there is more activity at 5 am. More cars, more lights on etc. It’s been really dark in the morning when we go out and we have a flashing light that one of us wears while we walk for oncoming traffic. We have our regulars that we meet up with during the am - twin men running, well at least they look like twins, a man and a woman jogging while we power –walk. Workers heading off with their large lunch coolers – every day we judge our walks and times by who we meet up with and where are they are and if we’re there and their not. I wonder how many morning people having their coffee look for us during their routine. There are a lot of computers on in the morning, large screen TV’s etc. can you tell we walk in a residential area. This morning I came upon a beautiful cat – she had to be less than a year old. Gold color and of course friendly, she came right to me, I scooped her up and gave her a hug. She nestled into my quite warm neck and was all set to stay there. After a moment of cuddle time, I put her down. Off she went to see if she could get the same reception with Mark. He gave me “the look” . You know the one - Denise we have 3 cats now we don’t need another. She started to follow us and I in turn had to be the mean one and shooo her away. Ah well, maybe she’ll be around tomorrow for her hugs!

Good morning, all!

I am having a good week, so far! Eating well, getting outside and doing some walking. I left my car at work on Monday and had DH pick me up for our trip to the grocery store and then walked in to work yesterday morning. It's 3.75 miles, nice for an early morning walk. We're into the 50's every morning at this time of year, which is perfect. I can stay on the trail by the river for most of the walk now, which makes it a little shorter and much more pleasant - no traffic! I plan to walk after work tonight as DH will be gone the next two evenings.

I'm glad to hear that so many of you are doing so well. I had kept up with reading the posts for quite a while, but hadn't posted myself since JUNE! I hadn't realized it had been THAT long. Still, as you know, I have been sending my time and miles to Connie all along.

Take care! Good luck to you travelers and racers!

Good Morning Team!

Dave - unlike Scott, I need to think about 1 vacation at a time, now I am concentrating on the DL 1/2 and the cruise, when we get back from that, then I can think about TOT. But I will also have to be working toward the marathon in Jan. I have kind of gotten to the point where I don't freak out about 1/2 marathons any more, I have done them with very minimal training - but the marathon still really freaks me out, and when we get back, I will have to really start ramping up the training, and eating better, and losing weight!!! The TOT will just be fun, I am not worried about that one.

The new tape config seems to be working better than the old, last night was the first night in a long time that my knees did not bother me and keep me up, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in. (My knees feel best when straight, but I sleep on my side, so both legs cannot be straight, so I keep switching from side to side to staighten out the opposite leg.)

Today we did a short dog walk, then I took out the bicycle for 6 miles - it was a great day to ride a bike - no wind, sunny, cool! In fact, it was verging on cold this morning! Beautiful sunrise again!

I probably will not be posting here again until we get back, Scott does take a computer on our trips, so he will be posting, but I do not have time to spend on the computer - he is on when I am sleeping, as he never sleeps!:rotfl:

Connie - I will post out weekly totals thru today, then not post them again until we get back.

Everyone have a great week!
