Hakuna Matata - April...and we're not foolin' around!

Sorry for the long absence from the boards. Work has finally slowed down to the normal pace and I'm no longer working day and night to keep up. :thumbsup2

Rick, Kipp, Robbie, and Kim: Glad to see your training is progressing and that you are doing well. Am I correct that you are all Goofy in 2013?

Sorry you had to miss some races, but it sounds like you are making progress with your PT and that's great news! By June, you will have plenty of time to get back "in the swing of things"! Good luck on your next run!

I am going Dopey for 2013. I see a lot of WISHers signing up for the Goofy, which makes me happy -- I will have lots of friends out there with me to share in the experience (and drag me over that Finish Line if need be :rotfl:)

Good morning team.

It has turned cold here again, it's 42 degrees this morning and it has been 60s in the morning for a couple of weeks and 80s during the day. Oh well I have winter workout stuff, hush Eva and the rest of you northern folk, 42 is cold, burrrrrrr!

Welcome back Elizabeth. Yes I do yap a lot of facebook. I would more on here but most of the time I can't get in and if I can then the post won't take.

I'm off to train, might do a PR at 4 mile distance today, feeling strong and ready to rock.

Everyone have a super Easter weekend and get your share of the joy.

Dave:hippie:

:bday: :cake: :cake: :bday:

party: Happy Birthday Tandy!! party:

:bday:

Hope you're having an awesome day!!

And a happy be-lated birthday to Robbie! His birthday was yesterday  Sorry for not posting yesterday. :bday:

Rick, Kipp, Robbie, and Kim: Glad to see your training is progressing and that you are doing well. Am I correct that you are all Goofy in 2013?

Alas, I'm NOT on the Goofy roster. For 2013 I'm looking at going for the 5K and the Half.

AFM: I didn't get my run in last night and it looks like I'll be sidelined tonight also. My neck is in extreme pain right now, so I've got to ice it down and get some anti-inflamitories in me. I've tried to run when this flares up, but it ends up causing me more pain. I'm hoping it'll be better in the morning so I can get some good run time in, as it's supposed to be mid-to upper 60's and sunny tomorrow here in Indy.

I'm looking into a 10K run a hour or so away from here for Mid May, it doesn't say if it's a timed race or not. Even if it's not, it might be a good practice run for another 10K later on in the year to see if I can get a better corral placement than this years.

Hi team.

Today is a stretching and rest day before work. I had a nice 5K PR yesterday, in my heavy cushion shoes so now I'm chomping at the bit to see how fast I can do it next Friday in my racing flats.

Everyone have an awesome Easter weekend and go easy on the chocolate.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone,

Elizabeth: Yep, I am all signed up for Goofy...can hardly wait!

Unfortunately, I had to pull out of this morning's 10K race. After a week of dodging it, I finally got the fever and sore throat my kids had. Stubbornly, I was considering toughening it out, but I felt so wiped out just going for my morning coffee at Tim Hortons, I just knew if I did race, it would be VERY ugly! I am also a little worried because I probably will be missing a long run opportunity and my first 1/2 marathon of 2012 is just two weeks away.
I think I will have to quarantine myself from my three little germ carriers like a week before I head to Orlando in January!

Hope everyone else is having a good weekend!

- Robbie

Robbie: Happy belated birthday and sorry to hear you're sick.Hope you feel better soon.

Dave: Sorry, but I have every intention to eat LOTS of chocolate. I can't help it. I only get 3 holidays a year to go crazy on it, and I'm going to enjoy it. I'll just have to run a lot more. ;)

Kipp: How's the neck? I hope it's feeling better.

Vicky: Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great day.

Elizabeth: Sorry to hear you missed the last race. Did you give that run a try, and, if so, how'd it go?

Congrats to all who have signed up for marathon weekend! I would like to join, but it's not looking good right now. I'm glad so many will be going from the team though.

If I missed you, I'm sorry. I just haven't had time lately, and am so behind on posts. :guilty:

AFM: I had a good birthday. I got to go for a walk, a 3 mile run and do lots of homework. But, then Frank and Harrison took me out for italian food and gave me lots of jewelry. I'm impressed that they attempted something like that because I'm so picky. They did good. :thumbsup2

Then, today, I GOT MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER!!!!!! I am an official nursing student! I'm thrilled but also a little terrified of what the next 2 years will hold. I still have to pass my background check and get a physical, but both of those should be a piece of cake!

Running has been good. I got 3 miles in today in 23:10, which was pretty awesome. Yesterday, I did 3 miles of hills. On Wednesday, I got in 4, but had a bit of a scare. I wasn't paying attention and stepped on a snake. He was a little bit angry at me and lunged for me. I was just too fast for him though! :lmao: This would all be fine, except that I really don't like snakes, at all. I am glad no one had a video camera near me because I'm sure I looked like an idiot. I know I sounded like one.

Well, back to work. Algebra and a 6 page paper on religion. Fun fun! Have a fabulous Easter weekend everyone.

That is awesome, congratulations! And belated HBD to you too.

That's great news!

AFM: Yes, the neck is much better today! Range of motion is almost back to normal. I did get in a run, a bit longer than I was originally planning. It ended up at 5.69 miles tonight. I was experimenting with BMP music. I wrote all about it in my blog post tonight, if anyone is interested. The link is down in my signature and I also post it through my FB. (I thought it was rather lengthy to re-post it here)

Just a quick fly by to wish everyone a Happy Easter! I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend. I've had my breakfast and I'm just waiting to get out for a run. A new paved trail recently opened in my neighbourhood. It's pancake flat and paved with asphalt so I'm going to give it a try today. The weather looks nice too!

I'll be back later to check in with everyone!

Vicky: Have a great run!

Kipp: Congrats on the 5+ mile run! Isn't it cool when things just feel good and you know you can just keep going?

LuzzBightYear: Sorry you had to skip the race but it was probably wise. You will be stronger to race another day.

AFM: I got in a good 12.46 run on Saturday morning with the Newtons. Definitely my new favorite shoes. Then I went to a natural running session in the afternoon where we ran 2 miles, and went to a local park where we did various drills in our barefeet on nicely manicured grass. Never ran barefooted before; it was interesting to see how your feet adjust. But definitely not going to do this on a 'run'.

Then early this morning, I went on a 10-mile 'walk' at 5:30am. It was awesome to be out there -- to see the sunrise on Easter morning, watch the wildlife, and just be a part of nature for a while. Having that experience made Easter services later on that much better.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Easter. I definitely plan on replenishing the 1400 calories I burned this morning on dinner tonight. :rotfl:

Just popping in to say -
HAPPY EASTER!!! He is risen, He is risen indeed!!!

I see a lot of congrats and stuff are in order. Birthdays, Goofys, acceptances, etc. I am only home for a quick stop then I am off to my in laws. So a quick CONGRATS and YAY for everyone and I'll be on tomorrow to read all of the posts and see whats up with who!!

Love you guys!!!

Hello team!

Tandy - Happy belated birthday! Congrats on your acceptance to nursing school!

Robbie - Happy belated birthday! Hope you feel better soon.

Elizabeth - Sorry you had to miss some races. I hope you keep progressing and can make your race in June.

AFM - I had a 5k Sunday morning. It went well considering I haven't been getting many runs in. The weather was very nice, it was warmer than I expected so I regretted that I wore pants. I finished in just under 38 minutes which is not my best time, but I'll take it. There weren't any finishers medals :( But there was free beer. DH and I went out to brunch afterwards.

Otherwise my weekend was pretty quiet. Just did some work and chores around the house.

Have a good night!
Emily

Hi Team!

Kim- Thanks! The Red Velvet cake was delicious! :thumbsup2

Emily- Hi! Glad to see you posting! I’m glad your 5k went well this morning and you had nice weather!

Rick- DH lost like 10lbs when he was getting ready to go back into the military just by walking. He had to get back down to their weight requirement. He could have run but it was just as easy and worked just as well for him walking. Congrats on registering for Goofy! You’re training like crazy! I’m glad your runs and walks have been going well! How is Christy?

Vicky- LOL I have no idea where DH puts all that cake and pizza he is eating!! He just has no inner control when it comes to sweets…has to eat it all right then and there. :goodvibes The Red Velvet was really good though. Yes we are really looking forward to Portland Rock N Roll! We are 6 weeks away from Race Day. If there is a Kona Café breakfast, I am only going if we all get to sit next to each other…I didn’t like the separate tables. It was hard to talk to people at another table. I hope your finger is better tomorrow! pixiedust:

Robbie- Congrats on registering for Goofy!! Sorry to hear you’re sick and missed your 10k race. I hope you feel better soon! pixiedust:

Eva- It was so strange- I felt like I was being punished for having a cheat day…and then I went a little overboard as a result… LOL there is nothing like having a vacation or goal to help you get that motivation going! I have been using MyFitnessPal and so far it is really helping. I still allow myself one cheat day a week though. I’m sorry you are not healing as fast as you thought it would. Those 6 weeks will fly by though and you will be back at it before you know it! Congrats on booking your WL trip! That is awesome!!

RadioFanatic- Glad you runs have been going well!

KippWade- Welcome to the team!!!! :cheer2: Glad your neck is feeling better. What happened to it? Did you figure out if the 10k you’re looking at is timed?

Dave- Great to hear your training is going well!

Elizabeth- I hope your run this weekend went ok!

Tandy- Happy Belated Birthday!!!! Glad Harrison and Frank did a great job with the birthday gifts!! Congrats on your acceptance into nursing school!! That is so awesome!! BTW I can’t believe you stepped on a snake while running!! :rotfl:

AFM, DH and I ran 4 miles yesterday. It was an okay run. Sydney had a great time with us. Sometimes when we run some of the fishermen walking around will yell from across the road to talk to us (usually to inquire about Sydney). I have a really hard time understanding them because I am so focused on what I am doing and it is hard for me to understand the yelling and exactly what they are saying. I try to respond because I don’t want to be rude but I really don’t like to yell across the road.

DH and I ran 14 miles today and it was a rather strange run for us today.:confused3 We started running in our rain jackets because you never know when it’s going to rain here. It can be dry, rain for 5 minutes and then stop raining. Anyway by the time we were almost to 2 miles we were so hot we decided to ditch the jackets because it was not raining and it was not windy. I also needed to use the restroom so we ran back home and dropped off our jackets and Sydney. We then continued on… I decided I wasn’t feeling as much energy as I needed to get through our run and asked DH if we could get me a PowerAde or something since we didn’t have any at home. He said sure but he did not have cash on him. So we ran home again when we finished mile 4 so he could get some cash. Again we continued running… Suddenly the wind had really picked up. Lame! :sad2: We discussed it and decided if we were actually going to make it to the end of our 14 mile run we should probably get out of the wind and finish up the rest of the run on the TM. But first we still had to make it to the little store down the road. So we ran to the store and found the PowerAde. We saw they were on sale 2 32oz bottles for $2. We decided to get 4 of them. Why not right? :goodvibes We then had to run about a half mile to DH’s work and we both ran with one 32oz bottle in each hand. LOL I’m sure we looked so silly running like that. Definitely not the most comfortable way to run! By the time we arrived at his work we were about 6.5 miles into our run so we only had about 7.5 miles left. We finished up our last 7.5 miles on the TM and of course it had started raining while we were inside on the TM. So we had a nice, refreshing cool down walk in the rain while we walked about a quarter mile back home. Strangest run we have ever had for sure. Thank goodness it’s over!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!!!

Good morning all! I hope all who celebrates had a great easter - we definitely did although I admit it had nothing to do with running and a lot to do with eating! My dh and I are excited that we officially converted to episcopalian saturday night. Our son was already baptised in the faith, but we did not convert ourselves until then. It was a joyous experience. Our son (4) must have known how important it was to us bc he was SOOO good for TWO and a HALF hour service - even without toys. I was so proud of him! And he managed to stay up until 11:30 pm but then was up at 6 to see what the easter bunny brought him. Sunday was a day of brunch, easter egg hunts, egg dying and playing with his and our friends - one of the best easters we have had in awhile.

So was back to running this morning but only 3.1 miles as the weather was lousy outside and I coudn't tolerate the TM any longer than that. I plan on making it up the rest of the week when we go to virginia for a couple 12 mile runs to get ready for my 1/2!

Rick - that easter morning walk sounds absolutely wonderful - I should have done the same.

Tandy - congrats! that is such wonderful news -you should be proud of yourself! such a great bday present

Piglet - that run sure had a lot of variety!

Emily - congrats on your 5K - that was a great time!

bunnyfoo - I took your cupcake decoration idea with the coconut/eggs and it was a hit -thanks!

LB - don't worry about the race - there will always be plenty for you to do and you'll get back to it soon

Kippwade - glad you are feeling better

dave - great job on the 5k pr

Happy Monday team. Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend.

Kimberley: Welcome to the Episcopalian world. I've been one officially since 1996, and have known my whole adult life that it was the right fit for me. :thumbsup2

Regina: Yes, that is one of the strangest runs ever! I have had runs that started out like that, but the 2nd time home, I would have just quit. :rolleyes1

Emily: A 5k would be a nice way to start Easter morning. But, what, no medals? They could have had some fun with it, eggs, bunnies or something.

Eva: Thanks. Update us soon on what's going on.

Vicky: How was the flat trail? That's a completely foreign concept around here. I have hills no matter how long I run or where I start.

Rick: Man, with as much running and walking as you're doing, you'll have no trouble with the 39 miles! Ooh, barefoot, huh? I'm not ever going to be able because of my non existent arches, but would love to try. I hurt all my tendons and even tore the calf muscle because my feet weren't fully supported, so I won't be trying. ;) Great job though! :thumbsup2

Kipp: I'm so glad you were able to push through your run. I have 2 playlists, one for running one for walking. I have to have a certain BPM or I slow down when I run. Apparently, a lot of Pitbull is just right. :confused3

Robbie: Thanks!

AFM: Wow, what a food packed weekend! I don't think I've ever eaten as much as I did yesterday. Bad, bad, bad!!!! But, what are you going to do when you go to buffet brunch and buffet dinner? Plus, there was a lot of wine. I'm thinking that today is going to be a light day. I feel sick actually.

Ran Saturday, but nothing yesterday. Hoping for a run and a walk today. Plus, I have zumba tonight.

Today is summer enrollment. Now that I know I'm starting nursing school this fall :dance3: I am going to have to add another class this summer. I'm a little bummed about it, but oh well, yet another busy semester. It could be worse.

Rick - that easter morning walk sounds absolutely wonderful - I should have done the same.

That is SO cool! I am a 'cradle' Episcopalian! Welcome! Don't know if you live near Indianapolis, but if you do you should come to our General Convention in July. It is a huge gathering of Episcopalians that occurs every three years. I will be a Deputy representing the Diocese of Chicago there. The Sunday Eucharist during GC is tremendous -- probably 5000-7000 Episcopalians worshipping together!

I will be in the midst of my marathon training by then, so I will be finding time during the 10-day Convention to get in my training runs (probably very early morning runs). It should make things interesting! :lmao:

Hi everyone! Happy Monday!

Tandy - Congrats on your acceptance to nursing school! How many classes are you taking this summer? Are they day or evening classes?

I would have flipped out if I stepped on a snake! At least it would have got me running .. fast!

If it makes you feel any better about your eating... I "accidentally" ate a biscuit sausage and egg sandwich from McDonald's on Saturday. I say accidentally because I usually eat a ham and egg mcmuffin which isn't terrible (about 300 cals). I figured how bad could this sandwich be. Well, I looked it up and it was 590 cals  Needless to say I didn't eat much Saturday LOL I made some healthy recipes on the weekend so I'll try and blog about them this week.

Have fun at zumba tonight :thumbsup2

Kimberley - Wow! That's a long service. That's almost as long as the flight to FL for us. Glad DS was able to sit through it :) How long is a church service normally? Sounds like you had a great Easter!

I'm glad you liked the cupcake and eggs idea! My mom made some and took it to a potluck yesterday.

Regina - I feel really bad about the seating arrangements at Kona Cafe :( I'm not sure why they were so difficult about it because the restaurant definitely wasn't full when we went there. When we were at Chef Mickey's, we had to wait an extra 10-15 minutes for them to get us a big table and I was told at WCC, they accommodate groups of 20+ all the the time. I think this year, I will try and go through Grand Gatherings to make the reservations. I've heard they are helpful in getting everyone seated close to one another.

WTG on the 14 miler! I like the idea of doing half outside and half inside. And good thing you were on the TM for the last half. Much better than running outside in the rain.

Emily - Congrats on your 5K! Too bad about the medals. Maybe the organizers were trying to save money. :thumbsup2 on the free beer though! Are you still taking dance classes? How are they going?

Eva - Happy Easter! Did Gage have a fun day? Lots of Easter eggs? How's your recovery going?

Rick - You are getting in a ton of mileage! WTG! Glad to hear the Newtons are working out for you! Are those the shoes that have the springs in them? Were you worried about stepping on anything sharp when you were running barefoot? I know it was on the grass ...

Kipp - I didn't know about BPM running. I'll have to check out your blog post when I'm done here! I only run with music on the TM. I'm usually out by myself so I worry that I might not hear something or someone while I'm running.

Dave - Congrats on your 5K PR!

Robbie - Sorry to hear you had to cancel the race but it's better to be rested than to race when you're feeling out of sorts. I usually take oil of oregano and wash my hands a lot in the weeks before I leave for Disney.

AFM - I had two pretty good runs on the weekend. One was a 9 miler and the other was a 4.7 miler. The weather was sunny but still nice and cool! I went out for brunch with a friend on Friday and used that as my cheat day. I got pancakes after running and they were yummy!

I've made a couple of healthy recipes on the weekend so I'll try and blog about them this week. I ended up cutting my finger on a grater this weekend. Kitchen tools are either too sharp or not sharp enough  It's right my fingernail so I can't really bandage it so I'm going to try and find some liquid bandages at lunch.

No gym tonight because my chiro is away. I will try and get out for a walk instead or maybe a run so that I can have a rest day tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

That's funny! I have a lot of Pitbull in my running playlist too! :rotfl2:
