Hey where is everyone?????

SIgned up for a new race this weekend. A Mid SUmmer Nights run. Did it before and didn't really like the course but seeing the medal I missed out on last year and you got a jacket if you signed up at the race expo on the week I couldn't resist.

Vicky that means we are racing together 2 weekends in a row:thumbsup2

Hope everyone is doing great!!!!

Hi Kimmer, sounds like a fun race with a nice load of goodies. I'm thinking the USAF will be my next half and maybe my only one before the Goofy.

My training is going great, if I can keep from whacking anything and getting injured I should be in super shape by Goofy.

How's everyone else's training going? Remember the view from "over the hill" ain't bad if you have kept up on your health and fitness. One of my race walking buds just bettered the Tenn state record for over sixty by to seconds and he is 67.

Here's my race report for my 10k this morning.

The day started out cold and raining. We took garbage bags to wear before the race but the rest of us was pretty soaked by race start. The rain stopped about halfway through the race and it remained cloudy for the rest. This was our first time running in the rain. The most annoying thing was my shoes and socks were soaked so running felt very squishy.

The 5k and 10k started at the same time. The courses are out and back, so at ~1.5 miles we separated from the 5kers. This helped to thin out the crowd. For an out and back course, the course directions were very poor. There was no directions as to what side of the course you should run on and there would be random volunteers telling you to move to one side of the street. But it wasn't uniform so you had people running on the same side of the course in opposite directions.

We finished in 73 min 58 sec. This is a PR for us. The time was about what I expected based on our training. We got a medal at the finish.

I wonder if this time can get us a better corral placement for the DL half. I used a time predictor and based on the 10k it estimates our half time would be 2:44. I don't know if this is a good enough time to move up a corral, we were in the second to last corral last year.

All in all I think it was a good race. It definitely gave us experience in running in less than ideal conditions.

Emily

Happy Monday team! The calendar says May but boy does it feel like March today! It's rainy, windy and chilly! Brr!!! I managed to get in two runs on the weekend but had to keep them at 2 miles because I had some shin pain. Ouch!

Emily - Congrats on your 10K! That's a fantastic time! I'm not sure about coral placements based on time. I know I used the same 10K results for my coral placement in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, I ended up in Corral B but in 2010, I was in C. If you get a better race time between now and DL, you can always get moved up when you bring in proof of time to runners' relations at the expo.

Dave - I'm trying to stay injury free as well. If I feel something not quite right, I'll slow down and if it keeps bothering me, I'll make a decision on whether to keep going. How are things with you and Sally?

Kim - Awesome!! I think my training plan for Midsummer Night's starts up soon, like this week  I'm hoping they give jackets away again too! Everyone I've talked to really liked them last year.

Lynn/Scott - Welcome back!! Can't wait to hear about the trip and see the pictures :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Thanks for the welcome back! Yes, it does feel more like March than May, our highs have been in the 50’s (normally mid 60’s), and much more rain than we are used to. Sorry about the shin pain - some Pixie Dust for you! I think Scott posted a face book album, check out his wall.

Dave - Thanks for the welcome back. Pixie Dust to Sally in her job search!

Kim - Yes, Alaska is amazing! Thanks for the welcome back!

AFM - Not much exercise since I have gotten back, except running up and downstairs trying to unpack and get laundry done. It was cloudy, cold and raining all weekend, so we did not do any bike rides. Dogs did not even get out for walks! I will have to remedy the last today and at least get dogs out. I am waiting for folks to come and pave the driveway to our barn, and re-coat the existing driveway. This was scheduled last fall, but put off by weather. Trees are finally budding out! I have lilacs budding, but most bushes are still bare. It is still too cold to turn on sprinkler system, this is the time of year it usually gets turned on.

The Alaska trip was awesome! I think Scott has posted an album on Facebook if anyone is interested. We did a LOT of walking, one bike ride, but it was downhill, so I do not think in counts.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey guys! Just poppin in for a race report and a hello!

Cleveland Half Marathon

I got up around 3am yesterday partially because I was already up as I didn't sleep at all due to a nasty head/chest cold. I drank some coffee and ate my prerace breakfast of toast with peanut butter, banana and honey on top. Hopped in the shower for a little wake-up rinse-off and woke Jordan up around 4am to get everything loaded up and to help with Gage and the dogs. He walked the dogs as I packed a breakfast for Gage. The we were off to Cleveland around 5am. That's the one bad thing about local races. Yes, it's nice to sleep in my own bed and everything...the it's always an hours drive! We got down to the Muni Lot to park around 6am and headed up to Browns stadium to use the bathrooms and get situated. It was nice to not have to use porta potties!!! I heard complaints from other ladies about the cloudy water in the toilets (they prob hadn't been used in awhile) and I just kept thinking "It's better than a gross porta johns!!" Anywho...on to the race! There were no corrals so I hopped into the staging area and found that I was up with the 8:30 pace group, but could not get back far enough so a bunch of us just stood off to the side and hopped in when we saw our appropriate pace flag go by. I wasn't sure if I was going to walk or run this one since I was so sick but I was soooo cold from the drizzly rain and the wind off of the lake that I figured I'd run a bit to try to get warm. I hopped in and the start was very congested and slow. I found myself to be slugging about a minute or two slower than my normal easy pace. It was prob good to be going slow since I was sick so I just went with it. I did take my normal walk breaks although I seemed to be the only one doing run/walk intervals! I thought there would be more people that do them but I guess not. I didn't see anyone else walk for quite a few miles! It was nice running through the parks and my old neighborhood of Lakewood, but once we got into the other parts of the westside of Cleveland that's when I started to wonder why oh why they made the course that way. It is the crappiest view of Cleveland there is!! I love where I live and I LOVE Cleveland and I can honestly say I have never been in some of those areas that we ran in. I don't go there for a reason...it's crap. LOL! Pretty soon we ran past the Westside Market (one of my fav places ) and I knew we would be getting back into downtown soon. About then is when the coughing started. Every time I would start coughing I'd have to walk for a bit to calm down. I used my inhaler, but it didn't seem to help. So my normal 4/1 intervals ended up 3/1 then 2/1 then eventually I couldn't run at all without the coughing starting up. I had to walk. It was so cold and the wind was unbearable. Finally around mile 12 I saw Jordan, Gage and my parents. Jordan had my jacket in the stroller so I grabbed it from them and after a quick hello I was off the final mile to get my medal. I was at a crawling pace by this time. I slowly walked across the finish line and grabbed my Dandee snacks and Dairymen's chocolate milk (two local companies...it reminded me that yes...even today...I still love Cleveland). I didn't stop moving til I got back to the stadium where I was out of the rain and the wind. I met up with my family and Jordan gave me his sweatshirt to wear. We had originally planned on lunch afterwards, but I just wanted to get home and get under blankets with some meds so we left and came home. All in all it was a bad day, but I did it and it's done. I'm going to take a few days off to get better from this cold, but my legs feel fine today since I took it so easy. I know by the time I get better I was be antsy to run!! My short term goal is to keep up my running to about a long run of 10 miles and to lose 5-10 more pounds this summer because I know I will gain a bit during fall training for Goofy. I may do some 10Ks or 10 milers from now until July...and then my training begins!!! :goofy:

Hi Team! Just a quick hello.

Lynn-Welcome back! I'm glad you guys had a great trip. I looked at some of Scott's pictures and it looks like it was a blast! I hope the repaving goes well.

Mary- I hope you enjoyed your trip!

Dave- Congrats on you and Sally getting back together, and on the fantastic training going on! So will Sally be joining you in January? Good luck to her on her job search!

Elizabeth- Thanks! I hope DD enjoyed her birthday! What did you bake? That's great you found a new road to run on.

Emily- Great race report and congrats on finishing your 10k!

Vicky- Did you find your patella strap for your knee? I'm sorry you're still struggling with pain in different areas. I know how that goes! I didn't know you were having shin pain too? Or had I just forgotten?

Eva- Awesome job finishing your race even though you were miserable. I hope you feel better soon!

AFM, I'm still in Idaho and I've been getting my running in. I ran Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday's run was better. I have been going to the same places I used to run. The weather was gray and ready to rain and there was a slight wind. I loved it. Hopefully the weather cooperates with me tomorrow. Good luck to all in their training.

Yes Regina, Sally will be joining me in January. She might not do a race but will be support crew. I'm doing the Goofy so I'll need adult supervision.

Eva, you were very brave, we are proud of you. You are a warrior in every way. That will be awesome being there when you do your Goofy. I plan on about 2:45 for the half and about 6 hours for the full.

Lynn, I miss you and Scott, hope we run into each other sometime next year.

Vicky, thanks for the information you sent.

I'm relaxing today after an easy hour training walk this morning. It's been an old lazy rainy day.

Dave:hippie:

Hello team!

Lynn - Welcome back! Gald to see you had a good trip. I visited Alaska a couple years ago and throught it was very beautiful.

Eva - WTG on finishing your race even though you were sick. Hope you feel better soon!

Vicky - It feels like March here too. It's chilly and more rain is forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday. Hope your shin is feeling better. I'm thinking of looking for another 10k to do before DL, but haven't looked yet. If I don't, I plan to take my time for this 10k to expo as proof of time and see if I can get moved.

Regina - Hope the good weather continues for you.

AFM - I'm taking a rest day today. I feel really good today, I was a little sore yesterday afternoon but it went away. I'm pretty tired as I didn't sleep well again last night.

It's supposed to rain the next 2 days so it might be a few days before I get back out for a run. But I hope to do some cross training indoors instead.

I need to get a new running watch as the rain killed mine. There's a crack on the watch face so I think the water seeped through there. I looked down at my watch around mile 5 and realized it wasn't keeping time anymore. It was an inexpensive timex watch and I've had it for about 2 years, so it's not a huge loss. I'm probably just going to get the same style to replace it.

Have a good night!
Emily

Good Morning Team!

Eva - Pixie Dust for you! Hope you get over your cold soon!

Dave - One of these days we will run into each other again!

Emily - Thanks for the welcome back! Alaska was very beautiful!

Regina - Thanks for the welcome back! Yesterday the drive to the barn got prepped, today they were here at 7:30AM, I am watching from the window while on the computer, they have sprayed the existing drive that they are putting another layer on. They have 6 huge trucks blocking our little road, good thing there is not much traffic here! (Road is a loop, so not access to anything, just traffic from folks who live here.)

AFM - Weather not great here either! It is cloudy today, not too cold and no wind so far, but thunder showers are predicted for later in the day. Never did get out yesterday with the dogs, my errands in town took too long, did not get back home until dinner time. Will try again for today when pavers are done with the driveway.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi everyone! I keep thinking it's Wednesday  I guess I'm looking forward to the weekend. It's the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada so everyone I know gets Monday off! Yay!! Kim, Sue, Saylan.. any big plans for this weekend?

Eva - You're a real trooper! That's an awesome RR! Congrats on a tough race! Lots of pixiedust: for a speedy recovery! Make sure DH is taking care of you :)

Just a quick post from me to say hi to everyone! I'll catch up later tonight! In case anyone needs to order running gear, there was a 10% off code for RunningWarehouse.com RWMAY11 which is good until May 31. Not sure if you can stack it together with the WISH code but it might be worth a shot.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Nope Vicky no big plans here, plan on getting alot of spring cleanning done and then maybe spring will actually show up.

Kevin and I are doing the Ottawa half next weekend so just some chillin' this weekend.

What about you?

Good Morning Team!

Hi to all!

Happy Victoria Day to all our Canadian friends! Have a great weekend!

Currently sunny here, but expecting massive rain fall later today - will get out for dog walk as soon as my coffee is done! Did get out for walk yesterday, and spent 30 min on the spin bike - not as good as I would have liked - but better than nothing! Driveway is done and it looks good.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good morning y'all.

Sally is freaking because we are going to a baseball game this evening for her birthday and one of our friends has arranged for her to throw out the first pitch to start the game. She may slay both of us. She is shy, but I keep telling her she has to do things that scare her sometimes. If she slays me I guess I'll have to just be the benevolent ghost of the Goofy course.

I had an awesome training walk 10K along the river this morning with my group. It stopped misting rain so we had great conditions. We averaged a 12 min per mile pace.

Have a super Wednesday.

Dave:hippie:

Dave - I know how Sally feels. I like attention but not when it's 50 people staring at me. Birthdays are a bit different because it's just a big celebration. Hope she has fun at the game tonight! Great job on your 10K and glad to hear the rain let up (it hasn't really here for the past few days).

Sally - Happy birthday!! Hope you're having a fantastic day :)

Lynn - Good job on the workouts! I'd say that even a downhill bike ride counts! Sorry to hear you and Scott won't be there in January :( Sounds like you have a big driveway! You have plum trees right? Just wondering when the first crop comes out...

Eva - The run/walk intervals are quite popular at the Canadian races. Actually at the Scotiabank half and full, they tend to have two pacers for each category. One who's a continuous runner and one who'll do 10/1s. What training plan are you following for the Goofy? I have one that I found online but it's in KMs so I'll have to convert it to miles - yes, I'm Canadian and I run in miles :)

Emily - I think we've got another day or so of rain but as long as it's gone by the weekend, I'm happy! How's the cross training going? What kinds of routines/exercises do you do?

Regina - I think I mentioned the shin pain in passing. I'm trying to transition to a different foot strike so I think it puts a strain on my shins. If I can change to a midfoot or forefoot strike, I'll also be able to have a softer landing and less strain on my knees. So I'm told anyway... somedays I feel like I'm running on my tip toes. No the patella strap is still MIA - I might try digging through my Disney luggage since that's the last time I would have used it.

Kim - No plans for the long weekend. I may go and check out some local farmers' markets. Yay for you getting your kids to race with you! Is Kevin running or is he going to stick with you? How are your run/walk intervals coming along?

AFM - I did a short run last night. There was misty rain and it was quite refreshing! My hat and jacket were quite soaked afterward though. I tried changing my footstrike but it made my shins tired and I knew if I kept pushing, I'd just get shin pain. I'm going to try and get out again tonight for a slightly longer run. Training for my 30K starts this week so I'm going to have to start picking up the mileage.

I heard a report on the radio today that in the past week, we've only gotten something like 9 hours of sunshine whereas we normally would get an average of 55 hours this time of year. I think as long as the weather clears up by the weekend, I'm happy!

Sally's birthday went super. The amazing thing was that she got what she wanted most, a good job in her field. She starts Monday at the large Hospice of Southern Ky. She will be doing their admin support and some medical transcription. This job has been in work for about a month and she finally got the call on her birthday.

This will be a rest day for me since I have to work a 12 hr day first at Sears Optical and then Lenscrafters. I'm filling in at Sears since they don't have but one Optician and they have to have one on duty. It's not extra money but gets me my 40 hours. The company cut hours but by filling in at Sears I get all mine.

Have an awesome Thursday y'all.

Dave

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We have 2 plum trees (and 2 cherry, 4 apple, 1 crabapple), there are blossoms on one, but they may get frosted out, the one that produced all the plums last year is just budding out with leaves - no blossoms yet. Fruit will be much later in the summer!

Dave - Congrats to Sally on her new job!!! So she did OK with throwing the first ball at the baseball game? Thanks for explaining the Sears Optical, I was wondering if you had switched jobs.

AFM - It is snowing here this morning!!!! Is this never going to end? It is supposed to be clear on Saturday, and warmer, we have scheduled a bike ride in Ft. Collins (1 hour drive south) - a 34 mile ride, sounds like not in the mountains, only 500 feet gain in elevation. I did get in a dog walk yesterday, but blew off the rest of the exercise - need to get back in the groove (have this problem every time I return from vacation). Will see if the snow and rain quits long enough to get out with dogs today, otherwise, exercise will be inside.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning everyone!

Dave - Glad to hear about Sally's birthday! I didn't know that Sears and Lenscrafter were owned by the same company. Enjoy your rest day!

Lynn - I hope the snow melts quickly. We're so close to June, snow should be illegal! Hopefully the cold weather doesn't affect your fruit trees too much. Is there a way to cover them to protect them from the frost? I know nothing about gardening ... so its more of a curiosity thing :)

Sally - Congrats on your new job! I think that's an awesome birthday present! How did you do at the baseball game?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Just a quick drive by for me this morning! Happy long weekend to Kim, Sue and Saylan! Yay! Had a short training session yesterday and my PT figured out that I need to bend my right knee more. So we're going to do more work to try and change my form.

My class was cancelled for tonight - I guess the instructors wanted an extra, extra long weekend LOL I'll probably go home and bake some other goodies on my own.

I listened to a radio call in show yesterday that talked about the flip side of training for triathlons and marathons. It talked about the families or SOs who felt they got left on the sidelines and might have even got stuck with extra work (ie. caring for kids, making dinners etc.) because of training schedules. Some people who called in even said they had to participate in the races with their SO in order to spend time with them. One person who called in said it wasn't the LR that bothered her but it was all the extra time her husband spent updating his blog, programming his Garmin, mapping out running routes, chatting on forums  etc. It was interesting to hear.

Anyway, just wanted to give us a bump up to the top and will catch up with everyone later! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Snow was too wet to even accumulate - but I have lived in Jackson (Hole) where we saw snow every month of the year - here in Cheyenne, it is unusual to get snow this late. Fruit trees are just starting to bud out, only one has blossoms - and that is a tree we never see much fruit on - maybe that it why, it blossoms too early. Most of the stuff we grow here is frost resistant. Good luck with changing your form!

AFM - I stayed inside all day yesterday - it was cold and windy when the snow stopped. Last night it rained almost constantly - at least that is what it felt like, it was raining each time I woke up, and I woke up a lot! This morning there was SUN! It will not be around long, thundershowers forecast for afternoon, but will still try to get out for a walk.

Have a great weekend - especially those from Canada who get an extra day off!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
