:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

How about if I reserve a hug for princess Vicky.

This is national running day but I umm race walked instead. I met my group on this beasty hot day for a 6.7 mile training walk along the river. Even though it was hot and humid we maintained an average pace of 12:30 per mile. One of my students was fresh off a weekend Tri and another had a 2:41 finish at the Indy half. We were soaked with sweat by the time we finished since it was high 80s and 100% humidity. Bunch of crazy senior athletes.

Hope everyone is going into June fit and sassy.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team!

Kim- I think you should definitely give the kettle bell classes a try. They were a great work out and there were people of all ages there. My friends that I went with are in their 50’s and they absolutely love them. Awesome job in finishing your half even though you were miserable! Hopefully now you’ll have some good races ahead!

Lynn- Oh that makes sense only one of the trucks was full of blacktop and the others filled with other stuff. What kind of flowers did you plant? I’m glad you were finally able to get out for a 3 mile walk!

Vicky- No plans to visit my mom yet. I’d like to make it back in the next few months but we will see. I think she’ll be starting radiation in the next couple weeks, so hopefully that goes ok. She’s not looking forward to it. :sad2: LOL, who would want to juggle kettle bells? All I would be able to think about is the pain if I accidentally dropped it on myself, which, knowing me, I would. How is the strengthening of your right knee going? I know you’ll get to the e-mail eventually. No worries! Thanks for the heads up on Margie! That’s good to know! I’m glad you had two really good runs over the weekend!

Elizabeth- Great idea wearing your running clothes to bed!

Emily- How did you get hit by the ball running to first base? Did someone throw it at you? I hope your knee is feeling better!

Dave- I’m glad Sally’s back is feeling better. I’m training for Goofy in the sense that I’m training for a half in September, so I can then change my running plan after that and do 2 long runs Saturday and Sunday to be ready for Goofy in January. Congrats on 2 lbs! Sounds like you had a great training day! Way to go on the 6.7 miles!

Mike- I think finishing in 1:38:10 is still awesome because it’s still finishing! And it’s saying something that you were able to maintain that pace even though you’re always busy with work and home stuff and training has been a struggle, as well as having additional weight. Be proud of what you’ve done and accomplished! Think of how many people do not run 10 milers at all!

Mary- The neighborhood block party sounded like a lot of fun! Good luck with your training for DL half!

AFM, I went out for a 3 mile run today. Made it in 36:47 and boy oh boy was it a long one! Aside from these never ending hills that I dread, my side started hurting after about the first mile and I made it about another 9 minutes after that before it was finally unbearable and I had to walk for at least 5 minutes to recover. I think it was the worst side pain I've had, at least in a really long time. The last mile went ok, but still had the side pains. I don’t know if my breathing is off or why I seem to be having this issue? I know my pace will be slower because I’m running uphill often, which is harder for me and that is ok, I just wish my sides (both of them) would stop hurting. It would make my run so much more fun! Otherwise, the run today was a good one since I finished! Tomorrow I think we are shooting for 4 miles so hopefully it goes a little better than today did. In other news, the house in Idaho finally closed last week, so we are no longer homeowners, which is wonderful! And, I’m starting a new job on Monday, so I hope that goes well too. Have a great Thursday everyone!

Hey team just subscribing to the new thread!!!!

Regina: Thanks, it was a tough one but got it done, I know I hate hills:rolleyes1 Congrats on your 3M and good for you for listening to your body, maybe I should have done that on Sunday:upsidedow

Dave: Sorry missed your FB chat, I forgot to sign off last night. How are things?

VIcky: Thanks for getting the new thread going:hug: How is Mid Summer Run trainning going? Our Acura 10M is in 11 weeks:scared1:

Hi to the team!!!!

Did we decide on meet up dinners, breaky etc? We are just over a month away from being able to make the 180 day ressies right???? My goal this year is to get into Le Cellier being Canadian and going to disney for over 10 years and I have never gotten there:headache:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Thanks for the new thread!

Dave - We have finally gotten some summer like weather here! It is not yet warm enough to walk before breakfast rather than after (I prefer to eat before exercise), but that is coming soon.

Regina - I have 2 pots of annuals next to my front door, we will plant sunflower seeds along our back fence (that faces Hwy 30) and some wildflowers in the front of the house. Congrats on selling your house! Good luck in your new job!

Kim - Hi!

AFM - Nice day yesterday, got out for a 4 mile walk, then decided again that weeds were more important, so spent the rest of the day weeding! Some day I will catch up! (The weeds are basically grass that is growing in our rock landscaping. It was basically weed free for the first couple of years, but grass is now making its way thru the landscape cloth under the rocks.) Today will be another walk, then get the lawn mowed - it is quite high after a week of rain!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Just a quick drive by to ask Vicky to please add this to the race calendar. Ken and I will be doing the Colon Screening for Life 5K in Evansville, IN on June 25th.

Thanks!

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Woo-hoo! A mud run! Sounds like a lot of fun! Go get 'em Kim! Have a blast!!

June
5 - Mud Run - Kim, DH & DS

Hello everyone! Just a quick drive by for me tonight! Sorry to have been MIA! Please keep Margie in your thoughts tomorrow, she's going to have a biopsy done :grouphug:

Mary - I've added your 5K onto the calendar! Sounds like a race for a good cause!

Dave - A hug sounds good right about now  Great pace on your walk, especially since it was hot and humid out!

Lynn - I always wondered about rock landscaping and how that worked. I didn't know there was a cloth underneath but it makes sense. I would totally be annoyed by the weeds too. Are pesticides outlawed in your town? They're banned here so everyone's got weeds...

Kim - I think we can do a breakfast and a dinner and anyone and everyone is welcome to attend one, both or none :) I'll make a post about it tomorrow (when my brain is more functional) but thanks for the 180 day reminder! Midsummer Night's training is going well. I've dropped one day of running from the schedule and will delete a few of the 25K runs. How are you feeling after the half last weekend? Ready for the mud run?

Regina - Congrats on the new job and selling your house! That's fantastic news and I'm excited for you! WTG on your 3 miler! I have no advice on the side cramps because I get them too - I get 'em on an empty stomach, after I've eaten. I have no idea what causes them. I've found that if you press two fingers into the spot with the cramp and inhale and exhale a few times, it can help.

AFM - Work just suddenly got really busy but knock on wood I think I'm caught up for now *phew* I had a quick training session tonight and we did a little more ankle and balance work. I'm trying to think whether I can PB my 5K in a couple of weeks. My run intervals have been faster than last year training runs but I can't run continuously. Although during the 5K last year, I took a walking break for a minute or so to chat with an ROTE person  Maybe next week I'll get out there and see if I can do a continuous 5K.

Have a great night everyone :wave2:

Hi Team!

Kim- Let me know how you like Le Cellier when you make it there in January! We would like to eat there, but not sure if we’ll make it there this next time around. Good luck on your mud run this weekend!

Lynn- Thanks! Glad you had a nice day and got in a 4 mile walk yesterday. Weeds are a never ending project. Hope you had a good walk today!

Vicky- Thanks! I’ll try the two finger trick with the cramps and see if that helps. I’ve just been trying to focus on my breathing and while it makes it manageable, it doesn’t always make them go away. I bet you could still go for a PB. I read that people have been able to PB with walk/run intervals, as well as running continuously. Let us know how it goes!

AFM, DH and I ran 4 miles today in 44 min with run/walk intervals at 10/1. It was the first time I’ve run 4 miles this year! It was windy, but the sun was shining, which is always nice. It was tough, but the run itself was much better than yesterday’s run. Those 1 minute walks go by so fast! Anyway, that’s it for now. Tomorrow is a rest day! Happy Friday tomorrow everyone!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - No, we can use pesticides and herbicides, which we do at times, but normally, I just try to get things weeded out when it has been wet - they pull easier that way.

Margie - Pixie Dust!

Regina - Good job on the 4 miles!

Kim - Good luck on your race!

AFM - Got in a 3 mile walk yesterday - waited a bit too long and it was rather warm by the time we were done. Today will be a bit cooler. Today is Scott’s last day of work! I will go in for his retirement party at work then bring him home. We will now have more space in the garage without his work car! I think we will uncrowd the bikes and motorcycles.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday everyone!

Regina - Great pace for your 4 miler! How are you liking the 10/1 intervals? If you read up on Jeff Galloway, he has different intervals. When I saw him in January, it looked like he was going at about 3/2 but the 3 minutes running must have been at about 9 m/m or faster. At the end of the marathon, rubato (Tandy) and I were doing some of our walk breaks at 2 minutes because they do go by too quickly. Got your bio updated! Are you looking forward to your first day of work on Monday?

Lynn - Have fun at Scott's party! I guess you guys will be travelling a lot more now? You should take a trip to Toronto :)

AFM - I have my baking class tonight and we're making bread. I haven't made bread before so it should be fun. I think they might be garnished with cheese because we were asked to bring a grater with us. Tomorrow I'm going to a BBQ with a carnivore/meat theme to it ... as in everything has to have some meat in it  So I'm going to bring dessert and I'm going to bring a batch of dark chocolate bacon cupcakes. I've never tried making this before so I don't know if it will work out or not. I'm not much of a sweet and savoury person but I hear chocolate and bacon go well together.

One of the kickboxing gyms not too far from me is on a group buy site this week. They're offering 10 sessions for $40. I'm thinking I might give it a try... I say thinking because you need to buy handwraps and gloves which are about $100. But I'm thinking it will help to get my weight loss going.

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Whoops! I almost forgot to post about our team meets in January. So it looks like from the poll back on the May thread, most people are interested in a Friday breakfast at Kona Cafe (January 6) and a Sunday night dinner at Chef Mickey's (January 8). The 180 day window for breakfast opens on July 10th, so I'll book it online. How does 10:30-11AM sound? I know Mike has the 5K that morning so I don't want to make it too early. But let me know what you think.

And for Chef Mickey - not sure when everyone likes eating at night. I've never been there for dinner before so I don't know when it gets busy. I'm good with an early or late dinner. So post away with suggestions! :thumbsup2

Also post your name and which meet(s) you want to attend. I'll keep this post updated :)

Hello team!

Regina - My friend told me the catcher threw the ball to first base so the ball would have been heading in the same direction I was running.

Mike, Lynn, and Mary - I'd be interested in meeting up at DL, too. Patrick and I are doing the 5k as well as the half.

Vicky - Yes, I was refering to Phillip. I agree the mermaids were a bit creepy. My scrapes are doing much better, once my knee formed a scab it started healing faster. What's polysporin is it similar to neosporin? Chocolate bacon cupcakes sound interesting, let us know how they turn out.

Kim - Good luck at your mud run!

Regina - Hope your new job goes well! WTG on your 4 miler.

Lynn - Have fun at Scott's party!

AFM - We got in 2 runs this week and they both went well. My softball injury is healing well.

Today, I need to do some chores around the house. We're also working on exporting the data from the our Nike Sportband which we use to track our runs. Patrick got some data exported to Excel so I'm trying to figure out what all the fields mean. I figured most of it out, now we just need to figure out how to format the data. We want to be able to compare runs against each other which is not very easy to do through Nike's website.

I'm definitely up a for team meet in January. I need to talk to Patrick and see if he has an opinion so I'll post later and let you know what we decide.

Have a great weekend!
Emily

Hi Team! Everyone seems to have disappeared for the weekend!

Lynn- I hope you enjoyed Scott’s retirement party.

Scott- Congrats on your retirement!!!!

Vicky- Thanks! I actually like the 10/1 intervals, but am finding that I enjoy them more at the end rather than the beginning. I looked into Jeff Galloway and I might try his shorter intervals for the LSD runs, mainly because these hills are killing me. They’re sucking the life and motivation right out of me. But, I enjoy the running once I’m into it. If I were on even ground a little bit more of the time they would be perfect I think. I worry that if I go down to the shorter intervals each running set will be difficult because I won’t have enough running time to get into the groove that I like. What intervals do you like? Does it help you run faster when you are running? I think I’m looking forward to my first day of work…but also nervous about learning the job quickly and doing it well. How did your BBQ go with your dark chocolate bacon cupcakes? I think kickboxing is fun. It’s definitely a good work out. How’s your no sugar/less sugar diet going? DH and I will attend the Kona breakfast. 10:30-11am sounds good to me.

Emily- That makes much more sense now that I know which direction the ball was coming from. Great job getting your runs in! I’m also glad your injury is healing well.

AFM, ran 4 miles today in 44:50. There was no wind and it was about 70 degrees when I ran, so nice day, but I would have liked it a tad bit cooler. I could also feel the humidity more since it was warmer. No major issues during today’s run. Does anyone wear a spibelt when they run/walk? If so, how do you like it? I need something to put my phone in when I run so I don’t have to hold it in my hand when I’m by myself.

Good morning team!!!!

Opppssss sorry I forgot to tell you when we signed up for Ottawa we decided not to do the mud run but thank you all for the well wishes:flower3:

Mike and I are in for Friday morning and Sunday night whatever time you pick Vicky is fine with us.

Yesterday was a wash out rainned most of the day but today is suppose to be nice so going out for my first trainning session since Ottawa. Going to do intervals. I will be a walker/jogger come January.

Wow Kimmer a walker/jogger, you will be leaving me in the dust now.

I have had three rest days in a row because of work commitments so tomorrow I'm going long and fast.

Have a great monday guys.
