Hakuna Matada - Jumpin' into June!

Oh I doubt that Dave, just want to spend a little less time on the course.

Good Monday morning team!!!!

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday :) Hope everyone had a great weekend! Margie sent me an email on the weekend and says she's doing well! I made a mistake though - she was actually having surgery to remove the tumours and not just a biopsy  Her DD is also doing much better as well! If anyone wants to send her an email, drop me a PM and I'll give you her email.

Kim - That's awesome! Keep us posted on how the intervals work out for you! Wasn't that some crazy weather we had on the weekend! Heavy rain and chilly on Saturday and then hot and sunny on Sunday.

Dave - Sounds like you're keeping busy with work and making lots of extra $$ for Disney :) Hope you have a grrreat walk today!

Regina - Great job on your 4 miler!! Did you decide on Seattle RnR? I have an older SpiBelt which I'm kind of split on. It carries my phone but it bounces. I find it annoying for longer runs. I hate hills too but this year I've gotten better at them. Try finding a moderate size hill that's about 0.25 miles and practice running up and down once a week. Start with something easy like 3-4x up/down and then increase it to about 6-8 over a few weeks. Also pay attention to your posture and make sure you're standing up straight - otherwise it takes more work to run up the hill.

The no sugar comes and goes because of the baking class on Friday. Our class starts at 6:15 and we don't get a break. We usually work through until about 9PM. At which point, I'll usually eat one or two of whatever we made  The other stuff I make on my own, I usually eat on the weekend and give the rest away.

Good luck on your first day today! Let us know how it goes :)

Mike - I'd gladly send you some lemon bars except we have a postal strike in Canada. They were really yummy though!

Emily - Have you tried RunningAhead.com or SportsTracks.com I find that they're both great at letting you look at your stats. I think Polysporin is like Neosporin - it's an antibacterial ointment that helps your cuts heal faster. I ended up making lemon bars because I was running short on time and didn't have a chance to go to the supermarket for bacon.

AFM - I had a great 7K run on Saturday. It was a little bit humid but nice and cool. Sunday I slept in and it was sunny and 80F by the time I woke up so I didn't get out for my 14K. Hopefully the weather won't be too hot today and I'll get a chance to make up for the run this evening. Not sure if I should eat dinner before or after since I usually don't get home until about 6PM and the run will probably take me 1:20+.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Afternoon Everyone!

Vicky~ Thanks for getting this month up and running, and thanks for letting us know about Margie. I hope she is doing well. First, lemon bars, now chocolate and bacon cupcakes? The offer to get married shall remain open!

Regina~ Congratualtions on the new job! I hope it works out for you! After doing the Donald, everytime I hit a hill I think of the soldier from Toy Story that was on the course telling us we could "Take that hill ahead, that hill is nothing!" You can do it!

Dave~ A few days rest always leads to a great workout! Hope yours went well!

Emily~ We look forward to meeting up at the DL half! As we get a little closer, we can set something up! We are also doing the 5k and the half.

AFM~ Liz is on vacation this week! Whoo Hoo! It means more sleep for me! I have to work, as she gets one more week than I do.

I'm in for both of the eat and meets! I think I can make it to breakfast by 1030 and dinner can be whenever. I take a cab to the Poly if I have too! Prepare to watch me eat two Tonga Toasts! Keep your fingers away! Be aware that at the entrance to Chef Mickeys we have to pose for a picture with him and pay for it, if we want it. He no longer comes to the tables. Is the Goof there? I want a picture with him and my medal!

Now that Robert it out of school for the summer, I'm getting into a regular workout routine. We did a LSR today that was ten miles and I felt great afterward. Liz also rode 32.5 miles on her bike last Saturday. It's been hot here and I'm a little concerned about my upcoming half on Sunday. Last Saturday at the Chicago 13.1, a runner died. He was 22. The race was called because of the heat and humidity. It was one that I'm glad I missed.

I've got to get my act together and get some things done this week. I still have to make our DL adr's for September, book a room for the Goofy in January, and plan a couple of adr's for then. I also have to go over my plan for training for the Milwaukee and Chicago marathons, gotta figure them out soon.

Did anyone see the new DL half medal? Really sharp looking! I'm glad that we chose this year to go! How long will everyone attending, be staying? I can always make a ADR for a group if anyone is interested! We would love to share a bottle of wine with Lynn and Scott!

Hope everyone has a great day! -Mike :cool2:

Just looked it up, Goofy will be at Chef Mickey's! The menu looks good too!

Vicky can you send me Margies email. I thought I had it but can't seem to find it.

Mike: I am tired just reading about your activities.

DL medal does look cool but just not in the holiday schedule for this year, might get there some time.

Did MFM W2 first workout, 5 min warm up, 3 min walk, 1 min jog for 8 times then a 5 min cool down. Leg still really tight but worked through it now time to stretch.

Have a great day all.

Kim

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Scott is really excited about being retired, I don’t know how much more traveling we will do, as we have been doing quite a bit - we may get in more camping trips though. As we are now on a “fixed income”, I am not sure we can afford more (than we have been doing) Disney type trips! Thanks for the update on Margie - keep us informed! So how did the dark chocolate and bacon cupcakes turn out?

Dave - Hope you had a good training session after your 3 days off from training!

Emily - A meet at DL sounds good - any suggestions?

Regina - Scott’s retirement party was fun, and he is really enjoying his retirement!

Mike - We will have to set something up closer to Sept.

Kim - Good luck with your training!

AFM - We have been very active since Scott’s retirement - on Sat. we did a 20 mile bike ride, on Sunday we did 12 miles and today we did 12 miles. Today I also got dogs out for 3 miles early before breakfast - it is getting quite warm here now (high of 86 today). Tomorrow, I think kayaking is on the schedule.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Wow Lynn you are a workout machine. Congrats to Scott in his retirement!!!

Good morning everyone! I didn't end up going out for my run yesterday. I had a huge headache after work and didn't end up going out. It was just as well since it was about 80F. I went to sleep early but ended up waking up about 11PM and couldn't go back to sleep after that. Yikes!

Lynn - WTG on the workouts! I didn't get a chance to make the cupcakes. I got busy on Saturday and didn't have a chance to go to the market for bacon. I made lemon squares instead :) Have fun kayaking today!

Kim - Will send you an email shortly! Good job on the intervals! Are you planning on doing 10/1 for Disney?

Mike - You crack me up! You can be my Disney running husband  I'm looking forward to see you eat two Tonga Toasts! I can barely make it through one! That's really sad about the runner at the Chicago marathon. I wonder if he had a pre-existing condition. I was talking to a faster runner/Ironman competitor about faster finishing times. He had told me that he use to push himself hard enough that he threw up once on course! Yikes! I wonder if it was a case of him pushing too hard for the conditions.

AFM - I'm going to meet up with Sue for lunch today! Yay! I also bought a few personal training sessions from a group buy site so I'm going tonight to set up my sessions and meet with the trainer. It was pretty much the cost of one of my 1/2 hour sessions so I figured I'd save some money this month and try out a new PT. I think it's just a meet and greet thing tonight but I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Evening Team!

Kim - Scott says thanks for the congrats!

Vicky - Did the lemon Squares have some meat in them? We never made it kayaking, the wind was blowing too hard all day today. I also did not sleep much last night, and as a consequence, did not feel like doing anything today - since the wind was blowing so hard, we started with some grocery shopping early when it was still cool enough for the dogs in the car, then dogs got a short walk, then we got the lawn mowed. Hopefully, the wind will die down a bit tomorrow, we are planning another 20 mile bike ride.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good morning team!!!!!

Nice to see the list growing for the team meets can't wait!!!!

I have decided to give P90X another go. I really did like it just got lazy and joinned the gym with my DD but since she is working outside all day on a physical job she is exhausted after work so I am going to cancell my membership. I am actually a bit disappointed in it, it is way to crowded and the muscle heads tend to take over all the weights. I have my workout plan set and am doing a good job in inplementing it.

Yesterday was a rest day in my MFM plan so back to the intervals tonight.

Hope everyone is doing OK in this heat.

Have a super Wednesday all!!!

Hi team! The weather here is going to be hot and humid! Phew! Funny because a couple of weeks ago, I was complaining that it wasn't hot enough

Kim - Sorry to hear about the gym :( The place I work out at is pretty small so everyone (including the muscle heads) are nice about sharing the weights, benches and space. Usually it's just a case of asking whether I can use the weights in between their sets ... but I always tease them that if I'm using the 20 lbs, they should be using the 40s  How's DD enjoying her summer job?

Lynn - You know, maybe next time I'll add bacon to the lemon squares. I know it was suppose to have some kind of meat ;) Do you and Scott take a picnic lunch with you when you go for the long bike rides?

AFM - I had lunch with Sue yesterday and it was lots of fun catching up! She's not doing any of the Disney races in January unfortunately :(

Ok ... so who here gardens? I have a question... I recently bought a cilantro plant which i keep on my window sill. Last night I noticed it completely wilted. I'm pretty good with watering it but I figured maybe I forgot. This morning, it was completely fallen over. I went over to see if I could stand it up and when I looked down at my hand it was covered with tiny green bugs. :crazy2: I'm assuming those are aphids but i don't know where they came from. I don't want to spray the plant because I cook with the cilantro but the bugs are yucky. How do I get rid of them?

Vicky, the only gardening I do is mowing, trimming and trying to stay ahead of the billion weeds that attack the landscaping around the house.

I had a great walk with my group this morning. It was hot and humid but those kind of days make you feel like you did extra. We did 10K on a hilly course.

Can you believe it's just a tad over 6 months till the Goofy? I'm staying regular with my training so I'm hoping I'll be strong and ready by January. I'm working out 5 to 6 days a week even though it's hot and humid now. I workout early before the heat gets intense.

I walked, mowed, trimmed, did laundry and now it's nap time. I've done enough for one day off.:cloud9:

Have a great wednesday y'all.

Hi Team!

Vicky- Thanks for the update on Margie! I didn’t sign up for Seattle RnR because I knew I’d be working and didn’t know how that would work because of the “occasional” overtime (I’ll fill you in when I e-mail you). What is considered “moderate” size hill? I’ll have to give it a try. It sounds like you’re still doing pretty well with the no sugar- better than I would be for sure! How long has the postal strike been going on? Let us know how the training sessions go.

Mike- Thanks! I’ll imagine someone is telling me that when I’m running up and down these stupid hills! I hope you’re enjoying your extra sleep this week. I really don't know how you function on so little sleep most of the time. You must have super powers. :) That’s great you’re getting into a bit of a regular workout schedule. The DL medal looks great- I wish I was registered for it!

Kim- That’s too bad you didn’t have the best experience at your gym. I’ve seen gyms like that and they are no fun to be in. I hope the P90X works out better for you!

Lynn- I’m glad you and Scott are enjoying yourselves now that you’re both retired!

Dave- I’m glad you had a great walk today! I’m sure those 6 months are going to fly by and we’ll be at Goofy before we know it.

AFM, DH and I ran 3 miles yesterday. Today is a rest day. I am exhausted this week trying to get up earlier than I have been. It’s kicking my butt. I guess I’m just going to have to try going to bed super early and see if that helps. Plus, Sydney got sick in the middle of the night last night, which does not help matters at all.

Question for all you past marathon weekenders: DH and I are thinking about staying at the Yacht Club for marathon weekend, but are wondering how long those roads in that area are closed on Sunday (marathon day)? Do any of you remember how long they’ll be closed over by the Yacht Club? If we sign up for the cruise, we are going to be in a hurry to get over there after the marathon and need to make sure the roads will be open by the time we plan to use them. TIA for your help!!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!

Good morning team!!!!

Vicky: She is liking it but up really early so tired at night which cuts into her social time:rolleyes1. I only garden with flowers so sorry no help with your cilantro.

Dave: Are you and Sally coming to any of the team meets??? Kona or Chef Mickeys? WTG on trainning and more importantly trainning smart:hug:

Regina: WTG on the 3 miles, but sorry Sydney was sick and in the middle of the night....ugghhh:headache:

AFM: Did another MFM interval this morning. Not sure why my back thigh is still tight will keep stretching it. Tomorrow will be my first long interval 5 min warm up 3 miles of W4, R1 then 5 min cool down. I do my long walks/runs on Friday nights in the summer just due to the heat. P90X is going great as well tonight....I plyo.

Have a great Thursday all

Yes Kimmer I'm planning to make the breakfast meet at least. I want to meet everyone for a little relaxing munching. My other eating, meets are: Ohana on thrurday evening, The German Buffet for lunch on Monday and the 9 Dragons for sunday after marathon rat killin. Oh and Friday evening WISH meet at the Pop.

Today is a rest day for me, I've had 3 good workout days in a row. I just race walk and stretch, I don't do the weights. The cross training I do is walking at different levels and doing hills.

Have an awesome Thursday team.

Dave:hippie:

Oh good!!!! Where hoping you would be at a few of them.

We will probably hit the german place too at some point but not sure exactly when.

Hi Team!

I am pleasantly sore today. My trainer has finished Physical Therapy school and will be taking the test to get her license tomorrow. Until she is licensed and can find a PT job, she is willing to train me again at the gym. So, yesterday I went and trained with her for the first time since before Christmas. It felt really good to work hard even if sore muscles are the result. I asked her to be thinking about another trainer that she might recommend for me; someone who won't try to push too much weight on me too fast because I know she will have no trouble landing a PT job as she graduated at the top of her class.

I'll be going out for my long run tomorrow instead of Saturday as I will be having a houseguest on Friday night. Therefore, I slept in this morning since it will be rise and shine early tomorrow to beat the heat!

Ken and I still haven't made a decision if we are coming for marathon weekend or not. I see that the Goofy is 70% full, but since the other races have no listing I'm guessing they are even 50% yet. If we make a decision, I'll let you know about the team meets.

Stay cool everyone!

Hi everyone! We had an incredibly large storm sweep through our area - you know the ones where the sky turns black and it's like night. It took me 5 minutes to get from the gym back home and in that time, the rain had just started to pour! It takes me about 5-8 steps to get from my car to my front door and I was completely soaked. LOL But I think I got in just in time because the hail started up, the wind was going and there was thunder and lightning! I noticed this morning there were a few trees uprooted in my neighbourhood.

Dave - Good job on the workouts! You're going to be superfit by the time January rolls around. How's Sally doing at her job?

Kim - My mom sprayed the plant with soap and water. She also moved them outside LOL I think after last night's storm, they're probably destroyed. Do you have a foam roller? Try rolling out your hamstrings after your run - I'm not sure of rolling before.

Regina - Not sure about the traffic in the YC area. Check out the marathon course map and see where the YC is in relation to the course and the highway. How much time do you have from the time you finish to the time you need to get on the road? The postal strike has been on for about a week or so - they say that they're "rotating" between cities but I've noticed the mail is moving a lot mroe slowly. Hope Sydney is feeling better

AFM - I went to the new gym yesterday for my fitness test. The trainer had me do a bunch of different things like squats, lunges, planks etc. I was able to hold plank for about 72 seconds. I was trying for two minutes LOL. One thing I couldn't do at all was a pushup right from the ground. It wasn't that I couldn't do a push up but this was doing one flat from the ground. I think my final score was something like 15/21 which he said was good. He also took my blood pressure, resting heart rate, weight and measurements. I was surprised by my heart rate which was 52. He also noticed a couple other things with my posture and the way that I stood. Kind of neat :) I've got another session tonight at 6PM so I'll report back afterward.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi, all,

From a quick scan it looks as though everyone is training well and getting ready for the big races!

We just returned from a lovely family wedding in Ithaca, NY. Unfortunately our car only made it as far as PA. Looking to replace it with a 2008 Honda Pilot or a 2008 Toyota Highlander. If anyone has any info on either car, please share.

My exercise attempts are a bust this week with car shopping and unpacking. Hope to get back to it on Sunday.

Vicky, cover the soil of your cilantro plant with aluminum foil. :thumbsup2 That is, if it survived the storm.

Regina, hope Sydney is better.

Happy training everyone!

I went out for a brisk 4 miles at the track, finished up at 7am and then stopped off at the hospital cafe for breakfast and now have to get ready for day shift, 10am till 9pm.

Sally is waiting for the woman she is replacing to get a job in Indiania where she is moving to. Sally to try to get some temp work till that happens. She has done all the training and just waiting for the other woman to leave now.

Miss Vicky I hope to be finally fit again by January, I've had a couple of rough years.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:
