Hakuna Matada - Getting fit and fabulous for August

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!!!!:cheer2:

I am unhappy to report a weigh in weight of 132.0, which is 2.2 pounds of weight gain! It's not a mystery. I ate too much. I ate out almost every day, which always puts weight on me.

For points, I got
1 point for exercise
.5 points for jumping jacks
1 point for water
1 point for vitamin
1 point for fruits/veggies
0 points for avoiding temptation (beer was prevalent this week)
0 points for new food
-2.2 points for weight gain

So, my total is: 2.3, I believe.
Not a good week. This week will be better. I am going to avoid dessert this week. I will definitely get a new food in, and I WILL lose weight! :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Hello team!

Good luck to all the weekend racers!

Lynn - Sounds good, I will look for you, too.

Vicky - I'm starting to feel anxious/ exciting about the DL 1/2. I feel better about it this year, since I know I can finish because I did it last year.

Kim - I second starting a food journal. I started using "My Fitness Pal" and it's helped me be more aware of what I'm eating.

AFM - My workouts went pretty well this week. We'll do our long run tomorrow morning. Then I have a work get-together tomorrow afternoon.

For points:
0.4 for weight loss
1 point for exercise
1 point for fruits/ veggies
0.5 points for water (got 8 cups in except for one day)
1 point for avoiding temptation (didn't drink any pop this week even though I really wanted a coke)
0 points for new food
0 points for jumping jacks
Total = 3.9 points

I hope my weight loss will be better next week. I don't know what my temptation to avoid will be for next week.

Have a great weekend!
Emily

Hi team. I finally have time to really post before I start school tomorrow, so thought I'd say hi.

Emily: How did the long run go? I'm impressed that you can lose at all while training for a half. I really struggle with that because I eat so much while I train.

Dave: Great job on another PR! You are just kicking booty right now!

Lynn: I hope the MS ride went well. How many miles did you end up doing?

Vicky: Well, how did you do? I guess I could go online and see the results, couldn't I? ;)
Oh, and I looked up the PB2, and cannot wait to buy some. I found a few stores online that are supposed to sell it in my area. We shall see.

Elizabeth: I'm glad you're listening to the doctor and being smart. Swimming is a great form of exercise! :thumbsup2

Mike: I'm so glad Robert is enjoying school. I think I was at a loss the first week Harrison was in school. I didn't know what to do with all the time I had. But, I figured it out quickly. I finally got to catch up on the stuff I'd put off for 5 years!

AFM: Well, I am fully enjoying my last weekend before school starts. I went for a 10 mile run on Friday, we have baseball today, had baseball yesterday, and I went and laid out at the pool this morning.

Unfortunately, I had yet another one of my klutzy moments yesterday. We were leaving the game yesterday, and Harrison's bag was unzipped, so his helmet and glove and stuff started falling out. I had my purse, his water jug, my drink and a chair that I just dropped on the run to go help him. I made an error in judgement and dropped the stupid chair on my foot. So, I am certain that I have broken my foot. It's right at the end where it connects to my 2nd toe. I called the nurse and she said that the only thing they can really do is xray to confirm, and then, put me in a walking shoe that doesn't bend. I just can't see going to the doctor for that. It's not very swollen, is not out of alignment (the nurse's worry) and it's not like they can cast it. Thank goodness I'm not running for the next 5 weeks, huh? Good timing on my part. :lmao:

Hi team! Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I just realized that I forgot to post an exercise of the week. How about side planks - do 4 sets of 30 seconds each x 4. Oh and each set includes your left AND right side ;)

So I didn't really want to have to come back and say that I finished in under 3:05. So I'll come back and say that I finished in 3:39 which is my worst 30K time ever! It's worse than my very first 30K. :lmao: What happened? I don't really know...

Pre-start I felt really good! I felt hydrated, I knew that I had eaten a good amount of (good) food, warmed up for about 20 minutes, etc. I got to see my Ironman friend before we started. He joked that he was taking it easy because he was doing an Ironman next weekend. I asked what "easy" was and he said 2:25. I wish that could have been an easy time for me :goodvibes

Luckily, the sun went behind the clouds before we started so we didn't have any direct sunlight. But it was still fairly hot from earlier in the day. I started out just behind the 3:00 r/w pacer. One tip... if you're going to go with a r/w pacer, ask the pacer what intervals he or she plans to use. I didn't do that and he wasn't doing 10/1s but that really wasn't the problem. So at 5:30 PM, we were off and I felt pretty good! In fact I did the first 7-8 miles at a good pace, I would say I was about 9:30 m/m. But it was humid and I was sweating a lot. My SPIBelt was completely soaked and I noticed a lot of the other runners had taken off their shirts or were really sweaty. Even still I didn't feel like I was going too fast, I know I can do 9:30 m/m.

Around 9K (5.5 miles), I started getting stomach cramps. I always get stomach cramps when I run in the morning. I think because the food hasn't had a chance to properly digest so I didn't understand why I was cramping now. Not really understanding why, I just pushed on and figured it would go away  By the time I reached 12K, I'd slowed down my pace by a good minute. I didn't understand why because usually my mind fatigues before my body does. I can't explain it, I didn't feel like I was out of gas but I had a hard time running any faster.

From that point, every interval onward I kept slowing down my pace by a minute. I really didn't understand why I couldn't run faster. I was having a bit of a knee problem but I knew that wasn't it. Although some Biofreeze would have been nice. I was getting passed by the 3:15 pacers and finally the 3:30 pacer. The icing on the cake was that I had gotten so slow by the 21K mark, that I was being passed by the slow 15K runners and only wogging at this point, I wasn't even able to catch up to some of the walkers :headache: I still had the stomach cramps if I tried going faster and now my knee along with my back was now achy.

Just after the 21K mark, there was the turn off for the 15K runners/walkers to go back to the start. I thought really hard about taking the turn off and going back. But I thought what kind of captain would I be if I did that? I didn't think that not getting a good time was a good reason to quit. So I continued onward - I got passed again by the 3:00, 3:15 and 3:30 pacers again because this was a loop part of the course :headache:

Going through the last 9-10K was hard because it was in a park and by this time it was dark. The volunteers had glow bands and were wearing bright yellow but it was still hard to see. I forced myself to at least keep going because I didn't want to lose sight of the other runners in front of me. On the turn around, as we approached the entrance to the park, I had overtaken the group in front of me and now there was no one else in front for a good hundred meters or so. I saw a car headed toward the entrance too. Timing wise, it looked like he was going to get there first and I really couldn't (ok didn't want to) stop now that I had a bit of momentum. So I yelled to the cop "I REALLY CAN'T STOP RUNNING RIGHT NOW!!!" Lucky for me he stopped the car and let us go through. I got a chuckle from the other runners.

As I approached the 23K mark, I could see there was a man in front of me collapsed/crouched in a ball by the side of the road. There was a lady helping him to the curb and I stopped and asked if he was ok. He said no but I had no idea what to do. I said that I would run ahead to the next intersection (there were police officers there) and get help. I was surprised that not one other person (in front of me) stopped to see if the guy was ok or stopped to tell the police officer. Maybe he just pulled a muscle but what if it was something more serious?

I saw my Ironman friend at the end, about 400 m to the finish. I joked and asked if I had beat him. He ran part of the way with me down the finishing chute and went back to cheer everyone else on. So I finished with a time of 3:39 which was not at all what I had hoped for but I finished. I felt much worse at the end than I did at the marathon back in January. I had a hard time walking and everything had stiffened up. I also noticed that my arms and legs were covered with a really fine layer of salt crystals. It looked like I spent the evening on the beach rather than running a 30K.

I've never had that happen before but when I later looked it up online - the salt, the slowing down, the cramps.... I realized it was a case of low electrolytes (or at least that's what I believe). I've never had that happen to me before. I guess before the next long distance race I do, I'll make sure to drink a little more Gatorade or take an electrolyte supplement. :confused3

So that was that - I'm disappointed that I missed my goal but I'll chalk it up to a off or a bad day. There will be other races for me to PB! Thanks for reading! :thumbsup2

Hi Team!

Mike- Congrats on your awesome PR at the Chicago half!! And of finishing your 10th race this year!!! Yay on your tickets for Goofy!!

Vicky- Thanks! I sure hope it means something better is around the corner! We’ll probably be in Oregon about 2 more years. The oreos sound yummy but very fattening. I’m glad you had fun catching up with your friend. How long was she in Spain? Was it for leisure or business? Shopping sounds like fun! Congrats on your race last week! BTW your workout last week did sound like a killer one. I don’t think I could have done it. Your chiropractor does have some good ideas. I haven’t heard of PB2- what makes it different then PB (aside from the fewer calories)? Did you like the final HP? I'm sorry to hear your race did not go as well as you hoped, but I am really glad you finished. I'm sure your next one will be 1000 times better.

Rick- Congrats on your weight loss at Weight Watchers!!

Lynn- Thanks! That’s neat Scott is getting teaching assignments. I hope your race this weekend went well! When does your weather start to turn to fall over there?

Emily- Thanks, me too! I’m glad your training is going well. I hope your work thing went well.

Kim- I’m sorry to hear your weight loss isn’t going the way it should be. And it would definitely be frustrating to eat better and not actually feel better when eating better. I really hope you start to seem some results soon and get to feeling good about all these changes you’re making!!

Tandy- Well I hope your break is a good one and that your school goes well! I’m still not giving up on ABD yet. I might not get to go as quickly as I would like to, but somehow we’ll find a way to go on one eventually! Have you always been a fast runner, or is it years of practice? I wish I were that fast! Willow House has some great stuff!! Congrats on winning week 3’s BL challenge! I am so sorry to hear you broke your foot! That is awful!! How long does that take to heal?

Dave- I hope your training run today went as well as you hoped it would. Congrats on your PR on your 4 mile hill route! I’m also looking forward to our team breakfast and park hopping.

Elizabeth- I hope the swimming is going well. I don’t blame you for not wanting surgery- I don’t think I would either. I hope everything else is going well.

AFM, my week this week is starting much better for exercise, which I am very happy about and plan to continue. I have already run 3 of the last 4 days. Today DH and I ran about 4.5 miles. It was a little more humid than I would have liked but it felt good to get it done.

Here are my points for the week:

I have also gained weight- I’m back up to 138 even, so I think that’s a loss of 1.4?

Weight loss: -1.4 points
Water: 1 point
Fruits/Veggies: 0
New food/dish- 1 point
Exercise: 0
Daily Vitamin: 0
Temptation: 1 point
Exercise of the week: 0

This week I am going to get a full point on my exercise and I’m looking forward to reporting back on it! I need to just go out and buy a Daily Vitamin. I can’t believe I’m losing points on that because I just haven’t bought one to take. I’m doing really well with the soda and am thinking I might as well just give it up completely. I know it’s not healthy for me and as long as I stay away from it, it’s easier to maintain. I still can’t bring myself to give up desserts though. Lol, I’ve thought about it several times but I’m just not ready to make that commitment. This week’s temptation to avoid will be skipping any workouts.

Regina: The doctor said it would only be about 4 weeks. Just a minor fracture. Glad you're getting the exercise in. I always feel great when I get lots of runs in. I gave up soda about a year or two ago, and feel so much better. So, if you can give it up, that would be great.

Vicky: I'm sorry you had such a messed up stomach during your race. I had that same thing happen twice with those 4am runs, and it was always dehydration, so I know how you feel. You will learn from it and be better prepared next time. :thumbsup2 I hope the guy that you passed is okay. At least you stuck with it and finished. I can't imagine doing a 30k feeling like that. I only had to do 3 miles.

AFM: I gave in and went to the doctor, mostly just because I want to make sure that my feet are healthy for running. It's a fractured metatarsal, and not a bad one. So, 4 weeks of no running. Not bad at all.

I bought PB2 yesterday, and I love it! It's powdered peanut butter and it only has 45 calories per 2 tablespoons. I think it tastes a lot more like peanuts than regular pb. Hubby didn't like it. He said it tastes weird. Turns out, he's a big fan of the oil in regular. That's what's missing. It does have sugar, but not much. So, thanks Vicky. This will be a huge help with getting my protein in!:thumbsup2

We went to dinner theatre last night, and I ate too much. So, I'm up with massive indigestion. Oh boy. And, I start school today and need my sleep. I guess I can sleep tonight, right? I hope everyone has a great day today.

Happy Monday everyone!

Tandy - I'm glad you like the PB2! I ordered a sample pack from their site. So hopefully it will be here any day now. How have you been using it? My chiro said a lot of the fitness competitors were adding them to shakes but I haven't heard much more than that.

I hear ya on the weekend eating :) That's why I have the weigh-in on Friday! You still have time to burn it all off!

Sorry to hear about your foot! Are you allowed to get in other exercises like biking, Zumba or walking? Hopefully during the four weeks, everything - foot, glute, knees will get a chance to heal pixiedust:

So are both you and Harrison back to school this week? How was your class?

Regina - I like your temptation idea of not skipping workouts! I'm glad to hear the soda is gone from your diet. I only drink diet soda but even that's really difficult to get rid of. You sound like me - I do the same thing with vitamins or veggies and yogurts that I take to work as a snack. I don't eat them because I forget to buy them or bring them in the morning. Oh, don't worry about taking off points for weight gain :)

My friend was in Spain for fun! Her brother is a TA so he gets deals all the time and I think she gets to travel at a discounted rate because she's family. They were there for 10 days - she was telling me about the different con artists she saw while they were there. She said these children approached her asking her to sign a UNICEF petition but also wanted her passport #. She said she offered to sign it but when she wouldn't give out her passport #, they got angry.

I liked HP - the ending was a little different than the book? It was funny to see some of the flashback scenes to the earlier movies. Daniel Radcliffe and co. have really grown up! I thought one of the kissing scenes was a little cheesy!

Emily - Good to hear you're feeling confident about DL!! Are you getting the coast to coast medal? And congrats on your weight loss!!

Dave - Great workout and congrats on the PB! You're getting faster and faster!

Mike/Rick - Congrats on your races!! Can't wait to hear about them :)

AFM - My quads are a bit sore today. I wish I didn't have a job where I was glued to my chair all day. Planning to head to the gym tonight for a workout and back home to finish up some work and to get in a work and those planks. Tomorrow I'm going to go with my chiro for a pedi before she goes on vacation. I'm looking forward to that!

I'm going to copy Regina this week and make my temptation not skipping any workouts!

Have a great day everyone!!

Hello team!

Tandy - My long run was awful, I think I just wasn't up for it mentally or physically. I usually eat a lot too when I train, I've been trying to be more concious of what I'm eating and I think it has helped. I also have a couple of Jillian Michaels DVDs that I'm making an effort to do and I think those make a difference for me more than running. I hope your foot is feeling better! How was your fist day of classes?

Regina - I couldn't give up desserts either! WTG on getting your workouts in.

Vicky - Nope, no coast to coast medal for me this year. January will be my first WDW race so I'm hpoing I'll get the C2C next year. Sorry your race didn't go well, but WTG on finishing it.

AFM - I had an 8 mile LR on Saturday and it did not go well. I felt fine for the first 2-3 miles but it got worse from there. I was pretty tired and my legs were hurting. I also just didn't want to run. As DH said, hopefully this was our bad run and the half will go much better.

I had to work late tonight, so I didn't get a workout in.

I made our shirts for the 5k. Patrick's shirt is gray and has the rebel insignia. My shirt has the imperial insignia. I'm going to wear a red and white polka dot running skirt and I'm going to make a matching headband. Here's a picture of our shirts.

DL_5k_Shirts.jpg

Have a good night!
Emily

Well I survived my first 10K race and I think it went pretty well. I am nursing some discomfort in my left thigh which the foam roller is helping with. I think this will be a rest week for me (taking my son to Space Camp this weekend for a Parent/Child program there).

Then next week begins training for the HM.

I put the race report in another thread here.

Hey team!!!

Vicky: Way to gut it out on your race!!!!! Sorry I didn't make it, we got suck out on Sat and by they time we got home it was thunder and lightening and pouring rain so I bailed on yet another race....grrrrrrr......will definatley be at Island Girl

Regina: I am with you on the pop, I gave up Pepsi a few months ago which is my real addiction, but was still drinking other pop's but have now given them all up completely, it is still tough but going to stick to it.

Tandy: So sorry to hear about your foot:hug:

Emily: Lovin' the shirts!!! Yup put that stonker run out of your mind, it is done your 1/2 will be much better!!!

RicK: WTG on your 10K!!!!! My DH would be jealous of your son going to space camp ;)

Dave: How are things? Can't wait to see you and Sally in January!!!!

Lynn: How did the MS ride go? Looking forward to seeing you and Scott in October, it has been along time.

AFM: Sorry been a super busy weekend. However the scale has started to move for me, since "my" start not the start of the challenge I have lost 15.6 pds!!! Yaaa me:cheer2: I have been eatting super good, pop is completely gone from my diet as well and been really pushing myself with my exercises. Knees are feeling a bit so modifying a few exercises that include squats and lunges.

Hi Team!

I know I have been MIA for a while, but it has been a busy and emotional week for me. DH and I went to see our daughter in CO and helped clean out her store. She gave it a good try for 3 years, but it wasn't making a profit, so it was time to close up shop. We packed up all the yarn, knitting needles, and shelving and moved it back here. Luckily, DH has some space in the building above his office where we can store it. Our plan is to keep the online store going for a while. After we get back from the DL half, I'll be up there getting things organized.

Didn't get much running in last week due to being out of town, but went out yesterday for 40 minutes or so. Could tell that I hadn't been out for a while because the glutes were sore when I got back! Plan to get out later on this week at least two times.

Can't believe the DL half is getting so close! I feel like I haven't trained as much as I should have, but my training for the WDW half in 2010 was even worse due to health issues I was having at the time, and I did fine. So, I feel confident that I can at least stay ahead of the sweepers.

Vicky....I think your 30K time is great, much better than what I could do! I hope the man that you saw is OK and it's good to know that there ARE people like you who take the time to stop and go for help. At first I misread your post about going with your chiro for a pedi, and thought it said you were going TO the chiro for a pedi! Wouldn't that be great? One stop spa...get adjusted and pretty toes too!

Saylan...I haven't booked a shuttle for the DL Half yet. Are you for sure going with Super Shuttle?

Great workout this morning. I'm doing things a little differently this year: I have been increasing strength and speed regularly for several months now. So I'm backing off the intensity for all but one workout per week. Last year I was doing great and then crashed and burned with a bad PF injury and then a long battle with the flu.

I did my intervals yesterday at a little less intensity, 10:40 min per mile pace instean of 9:40 pace that I had worked up to. Today I walked the 4 mile hill route at a more comfortable 47 min even and after both workouts I felt much stronger and not beat up at all. I'll be doing an easy 10 tomorrow and rest thurs. Friday I'll hit the 4 mile route hard again.

If things work out as planned I should be much stronger and faster by years end but more importantly I will be well and uninjured. Next month I have a half marathon in Ohio, the USAF and I plan to walk it under 2:45. That will be a good test of how I'm doing.

I hope everyone is training well and feeling stronger also.

Yes Kimmer I need my Awesome Canadian Princess hugs from you and Vicky.

Dave:hippie:

Good Evening Team! Hope all of you who were racing this past weekend had good races!

Vicky - Side planks is an exercise I can do! I will try to get in enough for half a point (hard to exercise in the camper). Sorry the race went badly, it does sound like you may have needed some more salt.

Kim - MS ride went well - I am surprised I did not feel more sore from it. Mostly, it was my butt that would have complained loudest if I had tried to ride any more than I did!

Dave - Great workout!

Regina - Fall will come sometime in October, at least, that is when we turn off the sprinklers, so maybe I should say winter starts in late October. It is still really hot!

Tandy - Good luck with weight loss this week! We ended up riding 130 miles in 2 days - 80 miles the first day and 50 miles the second. Hope your foot is better!

Emily - I have started packing for DL! We are headed out later this week for 2 nights of camping in Steamboat Springs, CO, we hope to catch the US Pro Tour (a “Tour de Colorado” with lots of big time professional bike riders).

Rick - Congrats on your first 10K race!

Mary - We have Super Shuttle booked for transportation to and from airport for DL.

AFM - Back from the MS ride, we really had a good time, it was not as bad as I was expecting! The weather was great, we were lucky that there was very little wind both days, and it was not unbearably hot.

Not doing well with program this week - no weight loss (well, was down a pound, but gained 1.5 pounds over weekend, so will not claim lost pound). I will claim points for exercise and vitamins and water, for a total of 3 points! Will try more this week, but it probably will not be any better, going camping! At least I had enough exercise over the weekend to get me thru the week - a total of 10 hours on the bike in 2 days!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Lynn, my butt always hurts after a ride, I have tried a few different seats but nothing seems to work, and since my long term goal is a 70.3 I need to work on that.

Dave: You can do a 2:45 no problem you are a speed walking machine. Wish I was going to USAF this year.

Mary: Sorry to hear about your daugthers store.

Just finished my kenpo workout this morning, felt really good, thigh didn't bother me but PF twinged a bit but feels ok now.

I had to laugh yesterday, for those on FB you have probably noticed that it is nw showing your posts from this time in a previous year well yesterday mine said OMG, Goofy trainning starts today whos with me" or something close to that, it was from 2009 boy that that time I never thought I could do a goofy only then to get some serious PF issues but with support from my teammates I soon learned that anything is possible if you want it bad enough.
So my new self talk words prior to every workout or bad food choice is "how bad do you want it" I know I heard that on one of my exercise tapes.

Have a super Wednesday all

Ten miler went great this morning, my horse ferrier bud met me at 6:15 and we did 3 miles together and we arrived back at the park in time to meet two other team panda walkers for the other 7 miles on the hills and along the river.

I don't recommend BBQ sandwishes and baked beans as a late evening dinner before an early morning 10 miler. I have an upset tummy now,

I'm feeling great other than that and ready for the USAF half marathon in three weeks. It will be strange for sure going into a half marathon TRAINED! Hopefully I'm done going into a race just hoping to survive.

Everyone have a day filled with magic and wonder.

Madison Half Marathon Race Report

Last weekend was a busy race weekend for us! I picked up Liz at work at 4pm on Friday and we headed to Madison WI for my HM on Saturday. The drive took about two hours with the ever present construction on route 90. We found the expo, picked up my packet, and checked out the vendors. People in Madison must have alot of back problems, as there were at least five different chiros/spine booths set up. I didn't purchase anything, knowing the DL half is coming up.
Next we headed over to our hotel in downtown Madison, which met us with warm chocolate chip cookies at check in. Liz was very happy! :woohoo: The room was great, with a very fluffy bed. They even provided us with a map to the start line of the race, which was about six blocks away. We went in search of dinner and walked around downtown for awhile. The area is really cool as it is a college town. Wisconsin Badger stuff was everywhere, and there are tons of restaurants, pubs, and shops, with a fun atmosphere about it. It seems everyone had a bicycle or scooter of some sort. The streets even have designated bike lanes. Because it was a busy Friday night, we ultimately settled on a pasta buffet that was back at our hotel. They like runners in this town!
I was up early, showered, and we headed off for the 700 am start. The corrals were set up on the main streets and I was put into H with I and J behind me. About 5000 were signed up for the half, with more for a 5K. The morning started off cool and overcast, and then the storms moved in. An announcement was made that they were delaying the race and that we should all take cover in the student union, :confused3, and parking garages. I followed the crowd into a large cafeteria and watched the rain move across Lake Mendota. The wind picked up and it was obvious we were going to be there awhile. I had to borrow a guys cell phone to get in contact with Liz as I had lost her in the crowd and we had to be out of our hotel room by noon. The race ended up being delayed an hour and a half. So, when they made the starting annoucement, they gave all of us about 15 minutes to line up again. I hit the port o pot and found my corral again and started the race without any warm up. The course was nice and wound through the downtown area and past the state capitol building. At about mile 2 a second wave of heavy rain and wind came through and soaked us, and lasted for about ten minutes. My shoes filled with water. I made the first 5k in about 28 minutes and the 10k mark in 58:34. Then the sun came out in force and started cooking us. At the top of a hill, I could see a thick layer of steam rising from the pavement and not moving much. All in all it was a long, wet race, with a few sections with rolling hills. It was a nice course, but I don't really remember the second half of the race as I just wanted to finish it in the heat and humidity. My time ended up being 2:16:47 which was about 9 minutes slower than the Chicago Rock and Roll half the week before. The finish line area was set up really well with a good variety of food and drinks. The finishers medal doubles as a bottle opener. (only in WI !!!) I liked the area and the great support of the hotel and fans cheering in the rain and would like to do this race again next year, hoping for better weather.
I made it back to the hotel, with just enough time to shower. Then it was a two hour drive to Pleasant Prairie WI for Liz's Danskin Womens Triathlon on Sunday. We got her packet, dropped her bike off at the transition area, and headed to our next hotel at the Illinois State Beach Park a short drive away. This hotel was a shock to us after such a nice experience the night before. The place looked nice online, but turned out otherwise. It was on the beach, which was closed, the pool and hot tub were emptied of water, the elevator was rank smelling. The place looked like it had been built in the late 60's and only minorly updated. The door to our room had to be the original one, with a vent built into the bottom of it. There were dozens of cigarette burns in the carpet, a very bad patch job to some kind of damage to the ceiling, and the wall paper was coming off the walls in several places. The chairs were oriental style and none of the furniature matched. Okay, it was adventure time. Never roughed it inside a hotel room before! We went out to dinner, and came back to a wedding going on outside in the woods. People in suits and nice dresses everywhere. When we got to our room, the door wouldn't open. Key card and handle worked, but it wouldn't budge. GRRRRR!!! I stomped back to the desk, almost lost it with the teeny bopper behind the counter and got a new keycard, which she thought was the problem. Another guy was there and said he was getting his fifth card of the day! The new card didn't work. I stopped, almost attacked, a maintaince guy in our hall and he finally got the door to open. Sometime during the night, we got woken up by our neighbors across the hall who must have been at the wedding. They were drunk, and their door had the same problem. Kicking it didn't help them.
We got up at 330 to shower and load up the car. Then sat in the foyer and had breakfast which we had brought with us. We also got to watch a few of the drunk wedding girls stumble around the front desk, looking for some snacks. It was time to leave.
Liz's race was a much more positive experience. The weather was beautiful, and she did really well. It was a sprint distance tri with a half mile swim, 12 mile bike ride, and 5k run. She did okay in the swim and run portions, and flew in the bike part, finishing in about 1:40. Despite the hotel, it turned into a good day.
Next up, the DL half! We leave next Friday for CA and the magical world called VACATION!

Mike - great race report!

Kim - I finally ended up with Stellia Italia seats for my bikes, one is the Diva not sure what the other one is. I have found these more comfortable than others I have tried.

Dave - hope your stomach feels better.

AFM - We got in a 30 mile ride today, it felt good.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a good evening all!

Hi team. I wish I had more time and could respond to everyone. I hope you are all doing well. I am not. We all know that my piriformis muscle/sciatic nerve is hurt. Then, I broke my toe. Well, tonight, my calf popped very loudly and it was accompanied by a horrendous pain. Now, I can't put my heel down at all and it hurts like crazy. I'm on crutches, and am hoping to get a call in to a sports doc tomorrow in between classes and get in asap. I think I've torn my calf or a tendon, and that's just not what I need right now. I have a full class schedule every day, and just don't know how I'm going to do this on crutches! :headache: Bad things happen in 3s, so this should be it, right?

Hope your bad luck is over Tandy.

Mike you are a machine, I wish I could afford to travel more but right now I'm still trying to recover from it taking us so long to find Sally a job. Next year should be much more better good.

Rest day for me today, except for work. I will try to force myself to remember to stretch and ice and massage tonight.

My mind isn't working right now, it hasn't got up just yet. Where is that team breakfast at we are having on Friday before the race weekend?

I'm off to get ready for work, day shift today.
