Hakuna Matada - Getting fit and fabulous for August

Happy Monday, everyone,

Hoping to get in a swim tonight, if not, I'm off to the gym tomorrow. Going to the ortho tomorrow for a check-up. Can't wait to begin running again.

No major damage here in my part of NC from Irene. In fact, nine 8-year-old girls did more damage to the inside of my house during my youngest's birthday party on Saturday! I'm not kidding; I have to repaint a wall. And they say boys are rough players....

Hello team!

Just a quick post to say hi. I had a busy weekend, we went out for a movie and dinner on Saturday night. We saw Cowboys and Aliens. I also started packing for DL.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Have a good night!
Emily

Emily: how was the movie? My DH and I want to see it too.

AFM: Just got in 4.5 miles on the bike. Knee is feeling good this morning.

Enjoy the day, everyone!

Happy Wednesday!

Got in a quick swim this morning. Knee continues to feel great.

Where is everyone?

Great 10 miler for me this morning, feeling strong and ready for the endurance racing I have coming up: The USAF on the 17th of Sept, the 10K Classic on the 29th 0f Oct and of course the Goofy in January.

Is there Disney transportation from Old Key West on the ferry or just the bus?

Hi Team,

The last minute chores are being done in preparation for our trip to Disneyland! So much still to do...:laundy:

Last Sunday I did a long slow training run of eighteen miles. It's the longest that I have ever run and apparently my body knows it. By Monday afternoon I had developed quite a "goose egg" kind of lump on my right thigh. Very painfull and red. Because I have had problems with bloodclots in that leg, post cancer surgery, I was more that a little concerned. The doctor ordered an ultrasound with revealed that I have superficial thrombosis in the vericose veins in that leg. (Small clots). These are painful but much less worrysome than a deep vein clot which can cause a pulmonary embolism and kill me. I see the doc today for more info. I also went out and bought compression shorts to help stop the spread of the clotting. So those of you who see me in DL, NO LAUGHING AND POINTING!! Unless the doc absoultely forbids me from running, I will complete the DL half and get my medals! I can deal with the pain so long as it isn't life threatening. pirate:

Anyway, I hope everyone else is doing well and Tandy, I hope that you are not in too much discomfort from your calf.

Have a magical day!! :wizard: - Mike :cool2:

Hi Team!

Tandy- PB2 sounds interesting. I’ll try not to be too hard on myself. All I can do is keep at it and make changes as I need to. I'm definitely not giving up though!

Lynn- Running up and down stairs sounds like a good work out to me. Have a great trip to DL!!

Dave- I hope you like being a USATF member. It would be awesome to see you earn an age group record at some distance. Congrats on the great 10 miler this morning!

Elizabeth- I’m glad you made it through Irene ok with no major damage! That’s great your knee is feeling good.

Emily- Good luck at the DL half!! Have a great trip!

Mike- I’m glad you went to the Dr. to get your leg checked out. Let us know what the doc says when you go back today. I hope he gives you the green light. Have a safe trip and good luck!!

AFM today is a rest day. I did Zumba for the first time on Sunday and boy was I feeling it Monday and Tuesday. It hurt to move! It was a great workout and a lot of fun though. I’d love to do it again sometime. I showed up at Kyle’s work to run 5 miles with him and one of his coworkers (a reservist) asked if we were there to do her Zumba class and said we should do it. So, we said sure and had a lot of fun. I ran 2 miles after just to get a run in. Hopefully an hour of Zumba and 2 miles is close enough to make up for the 5 mile run. DH even did it with me and had a good time. Needless to say, my 3 mile run yesterday was not the most pleasant run I have had, but I’m feeling much less sore today.

I hope everyone has a great day today!

It's Wednesday and the long weekend is almost here!! Anyone have big plans for Labor Day weekend? Ok, I'm going to try and sneak this in while my manager is at a meeting ;) Hopefully I'll be able to catch up as much as possible!

Regina - I'm not coordinated enough for Zumba  I'd definitely trip over my two left feet! But how awesome is it that DH went to the class with you. Do you think its something you'll continue with? I meant to ask you which training plan are you following for Goofy? Oh, and my chiro said that a few people she knows will ad PB2 to their smoothies/shakes. The wedding was actually pretty boring - when they opened the dance floor around 10PM, the dining room was empty but when I looked at the dance floor it was only half full. I think a lot of people left as soon as dinner was done  And don't worry about the gain - like Tandy says, weight gain is really unpredictable. As long as you've got healthy habits, it will all average out as a loss in the end.

Mike - Yikes! That's pretty scary! Does the doctor know if you'll get these kinds of clots every time you do a long run? I hope it's a one time thing only. And I wear compression socks which I think look a bit silly so I wouldn't laugh at the shorts! How was Liz's 23 miler on the TM? I can only imagine but at least she didn't have to pack water and had access to a washroom. Have a great time in DL and WTG on the 18 miler :)

Dave - Kona has a regular eggs, ham etc. breakfast. WTG on your 10 miler! I'll add your races to the team calendar. I think there's a boat that takes you from OKW to DD and then it's bus services to the parks and every where else. It's just busy at work because people are trying to do as much as possible before the long weekend and I had a few things to prepare for an audit. I don't mind being busy at work, it makes the day go by faster ... outside of work, that's a different story ;) I like your post about every day being a new beginning!

Elizabeth - Glad to hear your knee is doing well :) I laughed when you said that your girls did more damage than the hurricane. What exactly did they do to the wall that you had to repaint it? Are you making them paint it as punishment?

Emily - Good luck in DL! Have a great time and race :) I haven't seen 'Cowboys and Aliens' yet but have heard that it's a fun summer time movie!

Tandy - Hope your calf is feeling better! How are your classes going? And WTG on your loss last week :)

Lynn - Safe travels to DL!

AFM - It's been busy busy lately! Last week, it was just me running around to different appointments for the wedding - getting my hair, nails etc. done! It's lots of fun being girly but also a lot of time spent here and there. The wedding was so-so - the food wasn't that great and of all things they gave us a cupcake for dessert. And it wasn't even a good cupcake. So sad  This week at work ,we had an unexpected audit so I had to pull a lot of files and get some paperwork ready. Who does an audit the week of a long weekend :)

Tonight my trainer is doing a series of free bootcamps so I'm going to check it out. Honestly I could use the extra workout  Funny thing was, a lot of people I know were complaining about extra weight so I invited people to come with me. As soon as I said bootcamp classes, no one wanted to go. Haha!!

I'm debating whether to pull out of MCM at the end of October. It's a rather long story ... but I think I can still do a bib transfer to another runner so I'm going to be thinking about that this weekend.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Oh I forgot to ask... Does everyone want to continue with the BL Challenge in September? I know I have more weight to lose :) Like Dave said - each day is a new beginning... so we can all have a new start with the beginning of September!

Mike, that is kinda scary! Let me know what the doctor says. I hope you get the green light to run the DL race. But more importantly, I want you to be safe and healthy. :wizard:

Good Evening Team!

Only have a minute, we are heading out to a picnic with our MS Ride Team.

We are headed to DL at 0 dark 30 tomorrow morning, have a great week, do not know if I will get a chance to post from there or not.

Hello team!

Tandy - PD for you! I hope you are feeling better.

Rick - WTG on your 10k! I'm jealous of your son going to Space Camp, I always wanted to go.

Regina - I ordered the designs from etsy, since I don't have the means to make them myself. I just ironed them onto the shirts, it was pretty simple to do. Don't be too hard on yourself on the weight loss, you're doing great in other areas. That's cool your DH did Zumba with you, I'd never get Patrick to do it.

Mary - Sorry to hear about your daughter's shop.

Elizabeth - Good to hear you got through Irene ok. The move was ok, I didn't have very high expectations going into it so I wasn't disappointed. For an action flick, I thought it was kind of slow.

Mike - PD for your leg! I'm having trouble focusing, too. I just want to get to DL.

Lynn - Safe travels!

Vicky - How was the bootcamp?

AFM - I need to work on getting everything together for DL. Exercise has been ok the past week, I've been getting my runs in but not much else. Eating has also been so-so. We went to Cheesecake Factory this weekend, but we ordered off their new lower calorie menu and shared so I don't think I did too bad. I'll try to get back on track after the race.

We leave Friday for DL so only one day of work left. Yay!

Have a good night!
Emily

Hi Team,

Thanks for the PD everyone. The doc says I can run! He says its superficial and confirmed the ultrasound diagnosis. The swelling has gone down quite a bit but it is still pretty sore. He also said to take some precautions and go by the feel of it, as it could spread and get worse. I have to take a baby (81 mg) asprin every day for now, and make sure to get up and walk while on the plane to CA. The doctor also told me that for some reason, he has seen an alarming number of people, young and old (teens even) that have been developing blood clots. And, that something has changed in our society that is causing it, and is trying to talk a friend of his into doing a study on it. He also said that if my leg gets worse, we could talk about some vein treatments/removal later. I'll see him again in October for my cancer bloodwork.
Liz says I look hot in my compression shorts, so I feel a little better about wearing them...

Lots to do today... Liz has a docs appointment, I still have to pack, and clean our aquarium. I'm really having trouble staying on track. I can't wait to start our trek tomorrow!

Vicky~ I'll jump in on the BL challenge if you can list the categories again. I'm a little slow...:upsidedow

To all of our teamates heading to the DL half: Safe travels, good luck, and have a bunch of fun!!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: See you there!! :thumbsup2

- Mike :cool2:

Wishing everyone a huge time at DL, it should be a wonderful weekend. I have to wait for January this year to visit the mouse but maybe next year I can schedule two visits.

Rest day for me today, I'm training hard so those rest days are double important. Currently 5 days of quality training and 2 rest days are working for me.

Mike, sorry to hear about your injury, home the compression shorts help. Have a good race.

Magic is all around us, you just need to reach out for your share.
