Hakuna Matada - Awaiting an Awesome April!

Vicky, looks like we posted at the same time! Kona would be great for me on Friday after the family 5K or Saturday after the Half. I will probably be arriving on Thursday afternoon, so I don't think I could make it that day with having to hit packet pick up to get my 5K stuff. Sunday dinner would be awesome! -Mike :cool2:

Mike I will be doing the January marathon weekend for sure, arriving the wed befor and departing the thurs after. Not sure yet about lodging arrangements, I'll keep you posted.

My good training walk plans are dependent on whether or not the darn storms stop.

Dave:hippie:

Hello Team!

Regina - I don't have a WISH shirt yet. I'll have to think about getting one this year if I can.

Gerry - Congrats on the new job!

Dave - Sorry things did not work out for you and Sally.

AFM - DH and I signed up for the January half at WDW. It took me a while to pick which race, but we decided that the half was a better choice. DH says we could always do the realy in 2013. Although, I may still get an inagural medal becasue we're considering doing the Tinkerbell half. If we do, we'll get our coast-to-coast challenge completed early and the rest of the year will be open for new races.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in FL!

As for today, we're supposed to go running but Patrick is getting sick so I'm waiting to see if he feels up to it. Then, I'm going to make us Easter dinner. I'm making ham and a couple types of vegetable dishes.

Have a good day!
Emily

Sally just left.

I just registered for the Goofy, I need a goal and this year will be a mission, I turn 60 in Oct so a PR for both races is certainly in order. Grrrr!!

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone!

Happy Easter for those who celebrate. I got my Easter service in last night at my old church and the Great Vigil. My dad went with me, and he was happy he did. He's not thrilled with the way things are at his church, but it would be very awkward for him to change for a number of reasons. I went with the family this morning and was glad I'd had last night - seriously...a pastoral prayer that uses the phrase "put all our Easter eggs in Your basket"???...so not my style of worship. Anyhoo...

Dave ~ So sorry things didn't work out with you and Sally. Congrats on signing up for the Goofy.

Emily ~ Congrats on the Half sign up.

Mike ~ WTG on the unscheduled half!

Vicky ~ Again, congrats o signing up for the Goofy.

Eva ~ Good luck on the half!

I got a good run in yesterday ~ and tackled this evil hill I've been avoiding. Well, almost. I got to within 10-15 yards of the top before I had to definitively change to a walk. I was pretty proud of myself.

I'm most likely doing the Wine and Dine...I just have to register, which I plan to do before the next price increase. We're off the Thursday and Friday before because of Rosh Hashanah (yay for having such a high Jewish population it just makes more sense to close the schools on the major Jewish holidays!), so it's just about perfect timing for me.

Marathon Weekend - in which I'm only doing the Full...it'll be my first full and I don't want to screw it up by doing a Half the day before - is also the weekend of my dad's 70th birthday, so we're going to be doing all family things other than when I'm running, so pretty much anything else (and for sure a dinner Sunday night as that will be our big family dinner) is out. Sorry.

~beth

I know I have been MIA for a while, but just felt guilty posting here when I've had practically NO physical activity for a while! The rain, rain, rain keeps coming down here, and just couldn't psych myself up to get on the DM. Finally told Ken on the way home from church today that I was going to do something today, so as soon as we got home, we put on running clothes and got outside. We were able to get in 1.5 miles before the rain started AGAIN! Felt good to do it, but boy are my quads and knees screaming at me now. Got to get them back in shape as serious training for DL half will start at the end of May.

Vicky, Dave, Mike....Way to go on signing up for the Goofy!
Dave...So sorry to hear about you and Sally.

Mike and I are doing the relay so will be there to cheer everyone along. I am doing the first leg and Mike is doing the 2nd leg.

Kim

Ken and I were tossing around the idea of doing the half as well. Nice to know that if we do we won't be alone out there! However, I think he will do the first leg and I will do the second as that would be opposite of what we did in the Wine and Dine relay. The only thing that's holding us back is that we would have to start training just weeks after finishing the DL half. I know that today is the last day for the discount but I just don't feel like we can make the decision just yet. We'll keep you informed.

What a screwed up day, EEEEK!!! Sally left, it has stormed all day, power has been out, can't do any training because of the storms, even the mall is closed so I can't even go there. I was planning a good training walk today and then doing the yard work...

So who is doing the Goofy? I decided I needed to focus on some goals so that is one of them and since the lower rate was ending today I figured I better sign up. So Goofy cost me $300 even with the Active fee.

Now I just need to save for the trip.

Dave:hippie:

/
Vicky I missed the post about Kona.....you know me, never miss a Kona breaky. I am not sure if we have ever been to Chief Mickey's but Mike and I would be in for both for sure.

After I finish my leg I will go to the finish line and cheer everyone along....

Kim

Mary I picked the first leg cause it goes through MK. Also I "hate" the 2nd 1/2 of the marathon through AK.....bleck..... Hope you registered.

Still have to find out the logistics of getting around that day.

Kim

Kimmer I'm glad there are so many of us doing the Goofy. I will be walking about 13 min a mile give or take 30 sec either way. just depends on my condition come January. I'm planning on having a good training year and being as well trained as I was for my second Goofy.

The big challenge is saving money for a super trip. I want to arrive the wed before and leave the thurs after so need to start saving the pennies. I have an adjuster coming out to look at my roof to assess the amount of damage from the storms and it hasn't stopped storming enough for him to start. Might be a while since there has been so much damage in town.

Vicky, thank you for taking over the team captain position.

Mike have a great Everest race.

Dave:hippie:

Happy Monday Everyone!

Lynn: Disney offers a unisex shirt (at least for this year's DL 1/2 and next year's WDW 1/2). Unisex doesn't like me (not that women's cut favours me all that much better) and I didn't see a place to choose something differently. :confused3

Dave: Sorry to hear about you and Sally. It's inspiring though that you guys will be able to maintain a strong friendship. That says great things about both of you!

Emily: Yeah, it's a tough decision (see how late I waited? :rotfl:) but congrats on going for it! I guess we'll be seeing each other on the course after all! Regina does make a good point if we wanted to do the relay.

Regina: I haven't got a run in yet so the icing hasn't happened but this week I'm planning on it. I found with rest it got better too so I might just need to watch my training schedule better.

Thanks for the suggestion about the relay!

I'd love WiSH gear but the WiSH green doesn't look that great on me (nothing neon does).

Vicky: You're going to kick Goofy butt! I ended up using the Visa code because every little bit counts right now. With the pin, the reg came to 147 total. There's no discount for the relay so I figured it was ok to wait and see if I find a partner (or if DBF smartens up? :sad2:).

Thanks for the recipe! I didn't get around to baking this weekend but I have the materials to make both chocolate peanut butter loaf and coconut so I might do more than one. I'm thinking though for the chocolate/PB one, to make the bread PB and layer in chocolate instead of flat out mixing. Might be better to do muffins instead though if I'm going to do that. :confused3

I'd totally be up for a meet, but I've never been to Kona. I've heard good things though. Last time I ate at Chef Mickey's I was six... :rotfl2: Perhaps we can summarize our meet-up options and take a poll? See what dates/times work best. It'll probably help some of us (ok, me) figure out when to get there and what time to book off.

Kim: How did you guys decide who is doing which leg? If I can arm-twist DBF into doing it (big if), I'm curious to know how to decide which is better. It mirrors the full right? Why is AK so not fun?

Also, Vicky mentioned you were able to switch before from the half to the full after registering. What did you have to do? (In case I want to switch to the Goofy).

Mike: Thanks for the Friend Request (I assume that you're THAT Mike, lol). Congrats on the half marathon. Impromptu as it was you still did great!

Beth: That's awesome that you pushed yourself so hard with that crazy hill! I would totally have buckled.

Mary: I'm doing the DL 1/2 too and just signed up for the Donald. I was worried it was too close but I think if I just keep a lower but consistent set of maintenance runs going, I should be ok to do the January races. :confused3

AFM: So I cracked and at 8 to midnight I signed up for the Donald. I'm still debating on the relay versus Goofy. I think if I can get a partner (Vicky, I responded to Maura's post in the 2012 thread) I'll probably go the relay route this year, just for the inaugural medal and hold Goofy off for next year. Plus, it would be a good primer for back-to-back races.

I mentioned the Goofy Challenge to my trainer and it was "Why would you even want to do that?" :lmao: Pretty sure the words masochist and insane were used in my explanation. :thumbsup2 I really am seriously considering the Goofy though so I can go to the Sunday dinner with y'all. I wanna be cool too!

I'm almost committed to doing the end of May 10K local race. Part of me is terrified of doing it but the other part really wants to. I'm not sure if it's too close though to train for it and be ready. Plus, it's on a busy day for me since it's the same day that we go to visit my grandfather's grave and go for a family dinner out to share good memories of him. :grouphug: Maybe I should do it and in his honor.

I totally vegged this weekend, eating junk, and not really leaving the house. Going to have to stop that come next week since my DL training plan is starting.

This week is going to be busy though and I'm going to try and decide if I'm going to get my hair highlighted for the first time as a surprise for DBF for our anniversary. It's next Monday but I strongly suspect we'll be celebrating this weekend.

On top of that, I'm going to a candidate debate of the local MP candidates at the university to hear what the parties have to say about post-secondary education. Funny how the conservative member opted to not participate.

Also, for those who are so inclined:

1-Ingredient, Dairy-Free, 100% Fruit 'Ice Cream'

Ingredients: 2 bananas (per person)

Instructions:

Step 1: Peel and slice bananas into small circles.
Step 2: Freeze for 1-2 hours.
Step 3: Place frozen banana slices into blender or food processor.
Step 4: Blend/process, scraping down the sides frequently (the bananas will creep up and cling to the walls). Note: My blender struggled a bit with this.
Step 5: Once the bananas have the texture of soft-serve ice cream, add any other flavours you wish (optional: peanut butter, strawberries, or chocolate).
Step 6: Enjoy or re-freeze for a short time to make it more like hard ice cream.

We used strawberries in ours and found it very bitter, so you may wish to add sugar to it to off set if you're adding something extra that can be bitter. We're going to mess around with adding whey isolate next time. Yay protein ice cream! :woohoo:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Congrats on Goofy registration! The midnight bike ride is called the “Starlight Spectacular” in Colorado Springs, CO on the night of June 11th.

Saylan - It could be that all my womans shirts from the Disney races are ones that I bought instead of what they gave us. Neon green does not look that good on me either, but I still wear mine for the races! It is nice having folks cheer for you along the route just because of the color of your shirt (of course purple is good for that also, I wore purple before getting the WISH shirt, and all the TNT folks cheered for me!) Do the 10K in your Grandfather’s honor - it is only 6 miles!

Eva - We leave for Denver tonight when Scott gets off work. Will be glad to say hi to Koda for you!

Beth - Good job on the “evil hill”!

Dave - Sorry to hear that you and Sally are splitting up. Pixie Dust for you! Good luck with the training! Congrats on Goofy registration!

Emily - Congrats on signing up for WDW half!

Regina - I agree the high price is due to the park ticket, and I would bet that the majority of the folks doing the race would already have an annual pass, or multi day pass. the midnight ride in Colorado Springs is June 11th, we will make a long weekend of it. Today we have about an inch of snow - again. It will be gone by noon, and the moisture is good for the trees - but this is getting old. I am hoping that by mid May, weather will be better (probably go from cold to hot, and we will be complaining about the heat!)

Mike - Congrats on Easter 1/2 marathon, you did pretty good for a last minute decision!

Mary - Great to hear from you!

Kim - Have fun with the relay with Mike! (Not going Goofy this year?)

AFM - I got the dogs out for walks this weekend, we took the bikes out yesterday for a few laps around our neighborhood, it was a bit windy. Snow on the ground again this morning, it will melt soon, and is good for the trees. Will get dogs out for loop before taking them to the kennel. Because of the weather, (snow predicted again tonight), we decided to drive down to Denver tonight instead of dealing with possibly bad roads tomorrow morning (Denver is a 2 hour drive in good weather), so we are starting our vacation a day early! I will not be on the boards until we get back May 13th, so have a great time everyone!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Regarding shirts...I hate to be a "non-team-player" but Disney races are some of the few I can choose what I wear rather than my Front Runners singlet/shirts which I pretty much have to wear in the NYRR races (I can choose not to...it just depends on if I want to make sure they get pics of me since there are some photogs who pick out Front Runners members. Team points races I'm almost always in them, the others it depends on my mood and how rebellious I'm feeling). Neon kermit green is NOT a good color at all, and I refuse to wear it. Sorry. Not into the whole "thou shalt wear WISH colors" thing AT ALL. (And probably another reason I would NEVER do TNT...I value my independence too much to be told I absolutely have to wear a certain shirt.) So on January 8, I'll be in whatever I feel like wearing...and without my name other than where it's on my bib - which incidentally drives me bonkers...I have to put Elizabeth because that's what my credit card is in, but I NEVER go by that. They really should have a "preferred name on bib" slot for cases like mine where the first name is NOT the name you go by if they're going to insist on putting it on there.

Ok...off my soapbox. :charac2:

Saylan ~ Congrats on signing up for the Half. Go for it with the 10K - if you can do a half, a 10K is nothing!! Well, practically. And there's 4 months in between the DL half and marathon weekend! You'll be fine!

Lynn ~ Have a safe and great trip!!

AFM ~ I got my run in this morning. First time at 6:1, so I didn't attempt the evil hill. My pace was slightly slower than I thought it was, but then again, I know I felt choppy and not smooth at several points, it was my first time at 6:1, AND it was warmer and more humid than I've ever started a run, so I'll take the slightly shorter distance and slower time than I thought I was doing. Flight back to NYC is this afternoon.

Have a great day all!!

~beth

Been off the boards for a several days. What I see from a quick scan is that y'all are much more active than I am. Looks like I need to get some races on my schedule!

Have a great day, everyone.

I'm right there with you on the name. I go by a short form too outside work so people calling my by my legal name is horribly confusing. On top of that my short form isn't any of the conventional spellings so it gets butchered on an almost regular basis, about 2-5 times a day. :sad2:

Lynn: Maybe there's another way for me to advertise my WiSH member status without the green. I enjoy devising costumes for the race so to have to wear the WiSH shirt makes that harder. Maybe I'll get DBF to write WiSH on my arms for me or something. I'll have to think about it some more.

Beth/Lynn: Thanks for the encouragements on the DL and the 10K.

Elizabeth: Definitely sign up for more so we can cheer you! :cheer2:

Elizabeth...don't feel bad about your lack of activity. I'm right there with you!

Saylan....thanks so much for posting the "ice cream" recipe. I became lactose intolerant about 1.5 years ago and am always looking for alternatives like this, especially since I live in a small town with limited non dairy options. I kind of have the same idea about the DL/WDW halfs. My only concern is that I did this two years ago with the WDW and the Indianapolis Mini Marathon, and during the Indy race I hurt my hamstring and it just hasn't been the same since. However, I am stronger now than I was then.

AFM...very excited that the iPad I ordered arrived two days early! Unfortunately, I have my computer working on a job right now, so I'll have to wait for it to finish before I can set up the iPad. DH and I are going to Colorado (a business trip for him; I am hoping to catch up with a childhood friend while I'm there) on Wednesday, so I'll be taking the iPad with me. We are flying out of St. Louis so hopefully American will have all of its flights up and running again by then. No internet where we'll be staying, so after Wednesday I'll be offline for a while.

Happy Monday Team! I hope everyone had a great Easter!

Vicky- Do you know when they’ll be doing WISH shirt orders again? Yes, it was very nice of my dad and his friend to bring up our other car. I enjoyed having them here for a couple days. Right now Kyle and I are planning on doing a cruise after Goofy so we probably wouldn’t be able to make dinner Sunday night or Monday. But, we could definitely do a breakfast on Thursday or Friday or Saturday (or a dinner if people wanted that instead). How did your key lime coconut cupcakes turn out? Oh, and Eva is right- the finish line at the Wine and Dine was horrendous. I swear it took us over an hour to get out because it was so crowded by the time I finished. There were people passed out everywhere and there was vomit on the floor. It was a terrible end, but aside from that I’m looking forward to running it again (probably in 2013) since I think they have fixed that issue.

Dave- Congrats on deciding on the USAF half marathon. I’m sure you’ll be ready to hit your race goals by then! I’m looking forward to seeing you during Goofy! DH and I are also doing Goofy.

Eva- I hadn’t thought about pre-race jitters and getting the schedule down with the half. Good thinking! I’ll try to remember that when I have those momentary “what have I done?!” thoughts. The weather here is pretty moderate. It’s usually in the 50’s now, but the wind chill factor definitely brings that down at times. Still, it’s not bad. The worst part is the wind when it’s at its worst. Saturday was a beautiful day and the wind wasn’t bad at all. I’m also starting to feel more of the humidity in the air. (We lived in the desert before so I’m not exactly used to humidity.) Even the rain isn’t terrible. It rains a lot, but it doesn’t rain all day and the rain isn’t always heavy. They have a lot of races over this way. I’m looking forward to entering some of them while we’re here. I want to do the Oregon Wine Country half marathon in September that’s just outside Portland. Part of your registration is a wine glass to taste wine from the local vineyards after you finish the race. I’m glad training is going well for your half next month! Looking forward to your race report.

Mike- Well I’m glad you’re seeing results with your weight loss. Congrats on your half this past weekend too!! LOL, I think it’s funny it didn’t occur to you to run the 5k. When are your back to back half marathons? Did I miss them?

Emily- Congrats on signing up for the half! I think you should definitely get a WISH shirt before January whenever they have their next order. You will find you get a lot of support from other WISHers. It’s nice to have the support when you’re on the course.

Mary- Great job getting 1.5 miles in before the rain! Yay for your Ipad arriving! Have a safe trip!

Saylan- Congrats on signing up for the half! Good luck with your training this week. Neon green doesn’t look that good on me either. Of course when I’m running I don’t exactly look at my best anyway! (I sweat a lot.) I’m sure you could do the 10K. Thanks for the ice cream recipe!

Lynn- Safe travels to you and Scott! Have a great trip! It seems like you don’t really get much of a spring with all that snow.

AFM, DH and I went out and ran yesterday. He decided he wanted us to run up this back hill because it has a pretty view from the top and to show me where they have a tower and watch the waves for their reports and stuff. Because we went up the back road, it was surrounded by trees so the wind was not bad at all. It was definitely humid though. I sure hope these hills get easier at some point because it seems like they’re everywhere around here. All in all, I made it through to the end so it was a good run.

Saylan: I decided I was doing the first leg so I can run/walk/jog/waddle through MK. About AK I just doing like the long boring stretching heading into to AK and then through AK with all the uneven surfaces and I have never done a race with DH where I got to see him cross so this time I do.

Yes I did change from 1/2 to full there was a form on rundisney you had to comeplete. You had to register for the new race and they would reimburse you for the "old" race minus a fee I think it was $25.

Lynn: Are you and Scott coming to Disney for marathon weeekend 2012? I hope so been to long since we got to see ya. Nope no goofy for me this year but in 2013 for the anniversary mickey medal:upsidedow I am such a sucker... HAVE A AWESOME TIME IN ALASKA. I was there aout 11 months ago...amazing

wow no post since 1:49 PM yesterday where is everyone!!!!????

Great gym work out with DD last night, didn't do one of my leg exercises as hip and quad are really tight lately so didn't want to aggrevate it but everything else is feeling good.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday

Hi Kimmer:hug:

I'm tired of waking up and reseting the clocks, we have had power outages the last three days from the storms that just won't go away!

I have to pick up shingles this morning after my walk at the mall so I can fix the roof damage. Then tomorrow I have to get the mustang fixed, it's got a fuel filter or a senser acting up.

I will be walking in the mall again since it's raining and storming.

Have an awesome tuesday guys.
