Hi everyone! It's a rainy Saturday here. I'm postponing my run until the afternoon because I have to go downtown shortly and I'm not sure I'll have enough time to get ready and fit the run in. It's just cold enough and the rain is heavy enough that I don't want to risk getting sick.
Elizabeth - The first price increase for W&D is tomorrow. I checked out the Disney site and this is what was posted.
The final price is only a difference of $20 so it's not as terrible as some of the other races I've seen. If you know that you're going for sure, then I'd say save the $20. Otherwise the $20 will be your "cancellation" insurance.
The baking course was pretty fun! We didn't do too much the first night because no one had got a uniform yet. We have to get a chef jacket, pants and hat. It was a small class, I think because it's being held on a Friday night. There are about 10 people in total and we're working in teams of two. Our first task/assignment was to make pie dough. When we go back to class in two weeks (Good Friday is a holiday), we're going to make the dough again, plus apple pie filling and actually bake it!
Saylan - Yikes FB stalker! What did you say that she was so irked about? And does she have nothing better to do than to start stuff online with random strangers? Sheesh!
Good luck with your dinner! I have a recipe for German Chocolate Cake cupcakes if you're interested. It's not too difficult and you can make the frosting ahead of time and refrigerate it (if you don't want to do everything on the same day). You just have to let it return to room temperature before frosting the cupcakes.
And Beth is right about the 10K... as long as the results are timed and posted online, you're good. You can do a search for the results from last year to see if they do post them.
You're welcome for the medal! Sorry it took so long
Beth - Wow! That's a lot of gate changing! I guess someone at the airport wanted to make sure you got in some airport laps
Glad you made it to Nashville safely! And WTG on the 4.17 miler!! Awesome! Exercising on vacation is the one thing I'm no good at.
Dave - Looks like the rain from your area has moved up here. I don't blame you for cutting the long walk into a 5K. The wind sounds like it was challenging enough! Hope you've got sunshine and warm weather today!
Regina - I sort of thought about the salt as I was sprinkling it in. But I was thinking about something else at the time so I was a little bit distracted. I noticed after the cookies had gone into the oven and I was eating dough off the wooden spoon. I thought maybe it was because I'd used a different salt. But I realized exactly what I'd done when I was washing the dishes and looked closely at the spoon! Maybe I can sell them as iodine cookies
Are you running near the waterfront? Not that the lake front in Toronto is anything like the ocean, but I know people who live downtown and run near the lake say it's usually windier. Do you have a route in town or away from the water you can try? It might be less windy.
AFM - I went to my baking class last night and it was pretty fun. I'm partnered with someone else who's a beginner like me so we'll be learning together. She's pretty easy going so that's nice. There aren't any real marks in this class because it's a general interest class. In the professional stream, you get marked on all kinds of crazy things - your uniform and overall appearance, station cleanliness, plating and presentation, technique etc. So I like that this is more relaxed.
The class is small so it's pretty easy to catch the instructor's attention if you need something. The "lab" uses commercial ovens, mixers etc. so that's pretty cool! The annoying thing is that all the recipes are in grams. So we actually have to buy a scale (amongst other things). But my lab partner is pretty cool and we're going to try and split buying most of the tools so we don't have to each spend huge amounts of money at once. I mean because we're working in teams we don't really need two scales.
Anyway, I'd better start getting ready! I need to head out in about 45 mins!
Have a great day everyone!
