I just spoke with one of my customers that went on the Magic.
He told me his wife purchased a hair dryer when they got to the first port because it was not strong enough to properly style her hair.

The dryer is not of sufficient power for anything more than women with fine, relatively short hair, or for men with short hair. Otherwise, you're going to spend half an hour with it. However, on both my DCL cruises I chose not to take a hair dryer. I have long, thick hair. I used their dryer for about 5 mintues, then I'd sit on the verandah and the breeze would dry it a bit more, then I'd use the dryer for another 5 minutes or so to finish it. If you have a verandah, that's an option. If not, you'll probably want to take your own dryer.
I have to agree that it is best to take your own. I did on our first and skipped it on the second. Luckily the "style" I was wearing at the time of our second could handle a wash and go look.
I have longish hair and had no trouble at all with the dryers on the ship....I read about people complaing about them on here but to dry my hair they worked just fine. I have cut out many things off my packing list for my next cruise and that was one of them!
I have never had a problem with the hairdryers on the ship. They work well with my hair. Then again, I have thin shoulder length hair so there isn't too much to dry!
I didnt have a problem with the ship hairdryer. In fact I really like that the part that sucks the air in is connected to the wall and you dont have to worry about your hair getting caught in it. It makes it even easier to dry your hair.
If I bring my own, is there a plug in the bathroom? My dryer has one of those tricky reset buttons on the plug and is bulk. Just wondering if there is a plug in the bathrooms?
I also have long thick hair. I took my own hairdryer. The plug in the bathroom( the room that had the toilet and the hairdryer) was in the hairdryer and was only for shavers. I dried my hair at the desk which had a nice big mirror. I tried out the dryer that was there and it worked O.K. but would have taken much longer with my hair.
Thanks for the tip about the desk plug, SusanMouse. My hair dryer didn't fit in the outlet in the stateroom bathroom either. The dryer on the ship is for wash 'n wear styles.... not much hot air.
i normally let my hair air dry but wanted to find out for myself what the hair dry was like. It worked just fine for me. I have long and thick hair. Yes it would have taken a long time but it takes me a long time at home also.
