Well since I'm into hair but it's also something EVERYONE can talk about, why not a hair thread? Post styles you like or hate. on anyone. Could be you even. Actors. Whatever!

Not really in love with Jessica Simpson, but I like this simple hairstyle.

If this thread is weird I apologize. But it should be fun!

That Jessica Simpson one looks like a "Rachel" cut that was all the rage in the 90s.

I really really liked Reese Witherspoon's hair at the Golden Globes the other night.

It's what I wish my bangs would do, but they refuse.

Yeah, I remember the Rachel cut. Jessica's is more plain, methinks, but I like it for its length.

I know this is totally lame, but since long hair on guys is coming back, I want approx. shoulder length hair. *blush*

Oooooo, I love hair and makeup and all that stuff. :)

Ok, Kevin, after reading how much you like hairstyling and cosmetology, I have a question for you and would appreciate your expertise!

I have a really short crop haircut right now--I love it. Easy to do and it works well with my face shape and build. I am thinking of growing it out, though (such a pain!). When my hair's long, it's wavy/curly, and although it takes so long to dry and it's not as flattering, I do miss the curls.

So, whatcha think? I'm 40 yrs. old, dark brown-hair, hazel-eyes, light olive-skin, 5'6 and 125 lbs. Am I too old for long hair again?

I like her look there but it's a little thin for me. I like straight hair that has kinda bulk to it, which is a rare combo.

I have this hair, just a little shorter. Too bad I'm 15 years older and never looked like her even when I was her age! :lmao:

Since I've always had straight hair, I like what I don't have (typical, right?). I like curly, wild hair (on the right face). I'd kill for this hair:

It's weird because you sound like my mom. She's a little shorter, but same hair color and skin color (olive) and stuff!

She has had cropped hair for 20+ years. Never saw her with long hair except for on an old video. She has thick, wavy hair...and she says she'd never go back to it.

HOWEVER, I'd ENCOURAGE you to grow it out. Short cropped cuts just because you're over a certain age are just boring. Don't you want to be able to play with your hair? Tie it up? Wear a nice bun to events? Wear it down for fun? You have so many more CHOICES with long hair, and if it's a nuisance just tie it into a bun for the day and that's that! I don't understand why so many people crop off their beautiful hair - let it grow IMO, but be prepared to suffer some bad hair days while it grows.

The other growing out advice I have is DO NOT buy into the "trims along the way" thing. Your hair will be AWKWARD while it grows, but DO NOT "trim it" every so often to keep it "neater". All that does is make the awkwardness last longer. Yes, your hair will look neater but you're doubling the time til its long!

Stop apologizing!! Post whatever threads you would like!!! I think it's a cute idea!

I agree, Jessica Simpson's hair looks very pretty there.

I have that hair, too, but mine is a lot thicker so it never seems that straight and shiny. And my bangs refuse to do any kind of sidesweep no matter what. :rotfl:

Mine is that thin, trust me, you don't want it. Better to have stubborn bangs that flat hair!

I just love the bluntness of Jessica's hair in that pic. The ends are clean cut and blunt and straight. It just looks great.

I hope I can manage to grow my hair long without problems. It's definetly entering awkward time now.

Since yours is thicker than Reese's, would the style that Jessica is wearing in the OP work for you? I love that style for thick, straight hair!

I really do want to grow it out, but you're right--those bad hair days are a big pain. Thanks for taking the time to write all that out, Kevin. And I hope you stick around The DIS--I think you have a lot to offer. :)

Thanks!

So are you gonna grow it or keep it short? Winter is kinda a good time. If you live somewhere cold, you can just wear a hat when it's growing for a good 2 more months. Granted, it won't be much longer then, but it might be a bit of help.

Hair only grows 1/2" a month, so if your hair used to be a foot long for example, then I'm guessing you probably have like 9" left. 9" = 18 months. It's really that slow, unless of course you're lucky!

I think I'm going to try to let it grow. It took me @ two years to get it to a good length the last time I grew it out, so be prepared for a lot of witching and moaning from me for a long time to come. ;)

Thanks again. :)

He he hair huh. Well my DD 13 just loves to make her own hair styles. This week she had her hair cut just above shoulder length and left it longer on the front sides and had that foiled blonde. She had foils already, so thank god it didn't come out as bold as she wished LOL. But it is cute and I hand it to her for doing such a thing while in middle school! That age is sooo hard but she so doesn't like to be a follower. YAY!

Though I'm a boy who wants long hair I know it's gonna take forever. The back grows like 5x faster then the sides it seems, and it's just gonna look hideous til it's done.

BTW, did you see those guy with long hair pics? Geez, the one had GORGEOUS locks but the other looks like a caveman. No offense to him but seriously.

I agree with much of you said - except this.

If you dont trip it along the way, youre going to end up with long, unkept, frizzy haiy - ESPECIALLY if its colored or heat styled "along the way"

You need to trim your hair - growing it out, or not.
