Hair Wraps?

My dd has had several done now. We have found it is much better to get the wrap done with hair from underneath, such as behind the top of the ear. Do not have it wrapped from the part down!!! If it breaks the hair you'll have some nasty cowlicks. We also had a little trouble removing the last one. I found that if I took fingernail clippers and made tiny clips in the knots it came out. We also saved the beads for future use. I'm sure my dd will have hers done as soon as we check-in at the Polynesian. Now, I wonder if my really short hair would hold one too?? Hmmmm.

We bought one of those hair wrap machines and are planning on taking it with us. I know that people say "but you can do just one color" but I have used it and have done different colors, you just knot it off and start another color. And it's alot cheaper then the ones at the park, and my girls can have a different one everyday of their stay.

Hi Everybody,
We just returned home this afternoon (sniff sniff!) and my 7 year old daughter got her first hair wrap. We were at the Poly for the character breakfast at O'hanas and decided after the meal to take a walk through the pool. A hut was set up on the pier, by where you can rent the water mice for the hair wrap. The cost was $1.50 an inch plus the price of beads. The beads ranged in price from .50 to $5.00. It took only about 10 minutes. The CM said the average cost is $15 to $30 but ours was $10, although her hair is only shoulder length. She's quite proud of it and it really does look cute. We received a info sheet that said it will last anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Hope this helps and hasn't been repeated somewhere. Hope you have fun!

I wasn't sure about the ASMo as to whether they had someone doing hairwraps there, but I'm glad to hear they do since I'll be there next month and was planning to get one (thanks Mel6197).

And I do believe that they can be put up in a ponytail similar to putting a small braid in one.

I would love to see some pictures of what these look like if anyone has any to share. My dd just turned four and has pretty long hair. This sounds like it would be something she would love.

DD had her hair wrapped the last time we went to WDW. We had it done at our resort. The hair wrap places are ALL over the place. There is one in Downtown Disney. Just a note, if you are going to have it done, we had to sign up to have it done. There was a waiting list.

We will do this again when we go in January. We also have the machine, and I thought about taking it with. However, I also could make cookies and stop at the grocery store and get ice cream and make my own ice-cream sandwiches. But, I believe that I will be stopping at the bakery to buy one of those yummy things. I'm not putting anyone down for taking theirs, just justifying me paying the money to have it done :)

DD has had it done once. Her hair is not real long, but is below the shoulder and with beads from behing the ear it was $25. After the first time, it was up to her to decide if that's what she wanted to spend her money on and now she goes for the $8-$12 tatoo. (LOL) Anyway, I felt guilty - ya know, poor deprived child, and bought a hair wrap book. Last time, I did one in the airport while we were waiting for the plane. It kept her occupied and sitting still. We added beads to it after we got to WDW. Later in the trip, I bought more beads so I have some beads for our next trip.

The one she got at WDW lasted over two months. I started taking it out before I realized I just should have cut it out.

The one I did only lasted a few weeks (practice makes perfect), but I still cut it out. As the hair grew back in, she had a few hairs I had to "goop" down occasionally, but overall it wasn't that bad. I tried to do it on top of the head, but underneath the "part" hairs. If you do it behind the ear, that is probably not a problem.

The wraps don't hurt at all, but I found that if I left mine down with my hair, when I went to pull it up, I could feel it at the root of my hair...no different than say, wearing your hair braided all day then taking it down at night...

Also, you can definitely pull the wrap up into a ponytail, they're very pliable...I pulled mine up almost every day for 2 months after I got it...

Does it even show if you do it underneat by the ear?

Yes, they will show. They usually wrap longer than the length of the hair and add the beads at the bottom. I clip mine in only when my hair is up, because my hair is longer than the clip in wrap and it is baby fine, so I have to anchor it under the hair holder thingy.

The wrap shows fine when it's done behind the ear. The colors themselves stand out, but also, the wrap tends to come out longer than the rest of the hair because of the beads attached at the end. When my girls got it done, they were wrapped to the end of the hair, so the beads added another 1/4 inch. In addition, because the wraps are so pretty, my girls also tended to pull the rest of the hair into a ponytail while leaving the wrap to hang free. A caution--with very long hair, I discourage large beads at the end. If the wrap swings upward, the bead can really hurt the skin on the face. This actually happened pretty close to my daughter's eye once. So some care is needed with very long wrapped hair in active situations and certainly in all sports the wraps must be restrained in a ponytail.

OK, my DD is sitting right here with me and she DOES NOT want to cut her hair off!!! If there anyway she could take it out besides cutting a chunk of hair?

If the wrap has to be cut out with the hair, you are only talking about a dozen strands, if that, of hair. Although they are all in the same place, it isn't that bad. And you can use very sharp nail scisors and cut the threads, but you may end up cutting the hair anyway. The best thing to do it to watch it being done, then decide if you want to go for it. It is so hard to describe and imagine if you haven't seen it done.

If you can convince DD to remove the wrap about a week after she's had it put in, you can probably snip the knots and unravel the threads. It's when the wrap stays in a long time that it tends to get... fossilized... for lack of a better word. If she doesn't want to take the risk at all, I would go for one of the clip-on wraps (I saw them for sale at AK). The theory is the same with the tiny braids. DD14 left her braids in for a long time and it was a nightmare to get them all out. Her braids were actually "weaves," meaning they were curvy and crossed in beautiful symmetrical patterns. The way the braids were inter-woven made it really hard to undo, since we had to actually unweave the braidings, thread them through other braidings, etc. DD12, who had plain straight rows, wanted her braids out in about a week, and while it was time-consuming, the process was much easier!

Just a quick note, they really only end up wrapping a FEW strands of hair. When I did my DD myself, I don't think I took more than about 10 hairs. If you do 3-4 colors, you end up really wrapping the thread, not the hair. So it's not like your cutting out a big chunk.

What alot of people don't know is the hairwraps are to be used as the ponytail. You take the hair in a pony and twist the wrap around it and tie it and it holds the ponytail. Thats there use
