I would like to get a hair straightener. I already have straight hair I just want it for the occasional kinks and bad hair days.

Are the expensive ones really that much better?? Because they are about $100 more than the simple ones that I see at Target. I would rather save this money for a trip to Disneyland with our GAD tickets...but I also don't want to buy a piece of junk that I'll toss soon. Should I wait and save up for a pricey one? Anybody have one they like?

My daughter has bought the expensive one and don't use it. she like the one from sally it has a wide plate it cerminc and she love it. it about 39.99 her first one broke and she went and got a new one

I tried 3 different cheap ones before I finally broke down and bought a Chi. Should have bought the Chi in the first place. It works so much better than the cheap ones.! Also, I've been using my Chi at least 2 years.

I think mine is a conair. $40. I like the wideness of the pieces. With my thick hair it lets me do more hair at one time. I can't say anything about the expensive ones, I never tried them.

Well, I went through this a couple months ago. Have had a "cheap" one for several years, and let myself be convinced to buy a Chi.

Okay. I'm sold. It really does work WAY better than my old one. Faster, smoother, too.

I purchased it at ULTA for less than $100. They have a very liberal return policy... I knew I could return it "used" if I had to.

I'm keeping it.

BTW... today is the Texas Governor primaries... Faruk Shami (creator of the Chi) is running for governor. How funny... a "hair guy" running for governor in good 'ol boy Texas!

I have a cheapie Wet2Dry and was never too thrilled with it. I was given a Chi and the difference is huge!

It gets rid of frizz so well, and it heats up in just a few seconds. It is amazing!
If I had to buy one knowing what I know now I would never waste the $30 or $40 on one when I could get a Chi on sale for $80 or $90.

It's definately worth buying one of the better flat irons. I started with a $40 Revlon the, purchased a Chi. I now use a Babyliss which is my favorite and is about the same price as the Chi. The Babyliss gets hotter, it goes to 425 degrees, I have thick course hair so, the Hotter iron is much better for me. The Chi is also a great Iron. It's worth saving up for.

you definitely get what you pay for. I have fine, naturaly straight hair that always wants to flip in a weird direction. I thought since my hair was already straight a cheap one would do. I HATED it. I bought a chi and it is the best $100 I have spent in a long time. My hairdresser got it for me at her cost.

I think another thing that really matters is hair type as the poster I quoted stated she has course hair. I have thin, fine hair that holds a lot of moisture.

Got my daughter a CHI for xmas 2 years ago after the one she had broke. I can tell the difference and she loves it. Just bought her the chi spray and she loves that also. I would never have spent the money myself but glad I got it for her. It has already lasted twice as long as anything else she has owned. Try ebay it was much cheaper than anyplace else I looked.

To each their own, but I just got the Remington Wet2Straight and used it this morning for the first time and LOVED it. It's way better than my cheap-o Conair one that I've had for a few years and really wasn't working well at all. This one heated up quick and and only took me a few minutes to do all of my hair - I have fine hair, but its past my shoulders. It cost me about $25 at Walmart.

Nothing compares to a Chi! Mine is almost four years old and still heats up in about 30 seconds and works beautifully! Worth every penny and when it does eventually give up the ghost (not that it's showing any signs of doing so any time soon) I'll pony up for another one. :thumbsup2

My daughter and I both use a chi and love Them! I bought each of ours from Amazon and spent less than $100 each:banana:

I was going to buy a Chi but decided to go on the cheap and try a Conair first. I really like mine. It has 30 heat settings and gets really hot at max heat. It also has a 30 sec. power boost for heat up and turns off by itself. It does a great job straightening my hair and was only $30 from Wal-Mart. I've decided not to buy the Chi.

i have been using flatirons for ten years, the cheap ones are a waste of money as far as im concerned. go to a beauty supply place and invest in a good one. its worth it. if time is money you spend more money with a cheap one since you may need to make several passes with a strand of hair while a good flat iron you will only need to do it once. you also may damage your hair with a cheap one by repeatedly exposing it to the heat and a rough surface may snag the strands of hair. i have super curly hair and with a ceramic flatiron and chi products unless my hair gets wet it will stay stick straight for three days which is worth the money. another option is jcpenny has coupons for its beauty products and sales so you can save if you buy it that way.

My daughter uses a chi and loves it. It also has not damaged her hair which is important since she uses it a lot.

My vote is for the Chi. My daughter and I both use it and love it. We have used the cheaper ones too but the Chi works much better. IMO
