Get blonde hi lights about every 6 months and my hair is already frizzy to begin with. What shampoo is good to use for naturally wavy bleached hair to make it healthier, softer, shiny and less frizzy. Any recommendations? I have been using Aussie lol and I know its prob contributing to the frizz and dull look of my hair. Shame on me.......

I would recommend asking your stylist. I know professional products are costly but you really don’t have to use a lot so they last a long time. I switch back and forth between store brand and professional grade. My niece is my stylist so she gets the good stuff at a discount.

I have the opposite problem you do. My hair is super straight, fine and “slick”. I can’t get it to hold a style. I get highlights partly to give it some bulk. So I use a volumizing shampoo.

I've just begun using a product called Olaplex on the advice of my stylist (secretly, because they don't have it at my salon). She says it's fantastic for hair like mine, which is frizzy and tends to be brittle due to the curl (and by curl I mean unattractive waves and frizz) and processing. She actually used it on me in the salon and my hair felt wonderful, but they can usually make my hair feel wonderful in the salon ha ha. Anyway, it's carried in certain salons but you can also find it at Sephora and on Amazon. I've been using it for about a month and so far I really like it. It's sulfate free and it's really pricey ($28 each for shampoo and conditioner) but it does seem like it will last a really long time. I use #4 shampoo and #5 conditioner. She also used #7 bonding oil after she dried my hair as a sort of finishing touch so I also bought some of that, but I've only used it once. I think you could easily do without that one at $25.

Anyway, I have unruly, unattractive hair if left to its own devices and this is a product that so far has been one of the best things I've ever tried. As I said, though, it has only been about a month so I'm not sure about the long-term yet. Also, it is VERY concentrated so only use a TINY amount (no more than dime-sized). I won't be using mine up very quickly because I only need to wash my hair every 4-5 days.

Stop bleaching your hair. There is not a product in existence that will make bleach damaged hair look good long term. I stopped highlights for this exact reason. I was tired of having dull, dry hair. I cut it into a pixie cut and let it grow back out. Now, people think my natural hair color is some extensive highlight/lowlight color work because I discovered my hair has great natural highlights. It feels great too. My natural texture is wavy and prone to frizz.

I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine shampoo and conditioner, the anti frizz serum, and John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon as a finishing cream once my hair is dry.

This is great advice. Unfortunately, I tried to ease my hair into transitioning into what had become a lot of gray growth I could no longer keep at bay and I had several silvery washes and one round of bleaching to try and get rid of the part I'd been coloring for years. It was always going brassy and I just wanted to go gray already but with style. It was the bleaching that did a real number on my hair, turning it brittle and causing it to break off in a very alarming way. I didn't want to cut it all off so I'm letting it grow out and with what I already did to it, it's transitioning ok now but I can't undo the damage that was done by bleaching it that one time.

Here is a pic of the treatment that led to breakage, and here's what it looks like 6 months later. The gray is growing in naturally but the bottom has reverted to the yellowish color I was trying to get rid of. I'm told I have to just leave it or cut it off so I'm leaving it for now. The bottom pic is today after washing my hair with the Olaplex and letting it air dry; not a great look but pretty amazing compared to how it used to look if I let it air dry.

I understand that. I have a face shape that works really well with super short hair PLUS my hair grows at a rate of about an inch a month, so I would even take clippers to my hair and shave myself bald if I had to. I have no issue chopping it all off. I keep a chin length bob usually, so it's not long before I am back to that. My growth rate is also the reason I had to stop coloring. It is just too expensive to maintain and my hair was getting absolutely fried. I'm about 25% grey now, but it's white grey and looks like blonde highlights, and the best part is NO brassiness! I used to have to wash with purple shampoo at least once a week when I was getting highlights.

Agree with the suggestions to talk with your stylist/colorist about specific recommendations for your hair's specific needs. Your stylist/colorist will be familiar not only with your hair, but with the water in your area, so she/he will know what products will work best. Don't skimp on quality products -- they last longer because you don't need to use as much, so the initial "ouch" expenditure isn't so bad in the long run.

Try using a purple shampoo such as Shimmer Lights or Joico purple shampoo to help with the yellow tones one the end. Just once a week should help.

While I was coloring my hair I really liked the Kirkland brand shampoo & conditioner from Costco. It's under $9 for a 32 oz bottle. Now that my hair is less damaged it is too moisturizing. I would also try an apple cider vinegar rinse once a month to help remove build up, then follow it up with a deep conditioner kept on for at least 30 mins. For the price, I like Aussie 3 minute moist.

Thank you! My stylist had me use it every shampoo, but it just didn't work for me except when I'd recently had my hair glossed or whatever that silver wash is called. Using purple shampoo that much also really dried out my hair. I was told that the only way I could get the remainder of the color out (other than cutting it) would be to bleach it but turns out my hair isn't strong enough. I have been cutting some off the bottom each time I go in and I guess sooner or later, the top will grow out and the bottom will get cut and I'll be good! At least I hope so.

ETA: I stopped using the purple shampoo since it wasn't helping the brassiness

Yes, the purple shampoo can be a bit drying which is why I recommend my clients use it once a week.
If you still have some left, finish that, if not, try using the blue instead. Wet your hair and use the shampoo to suds it up really well on the ends (yellow/brassy part) and let it sit 5-7 minutes. That should help some. You can even use it every other wash if you want, just follow it with a good conditioner.

From a hair health perspective (i.e. helping with the dryness or frizziness), two thoughts. Go for a gentle shampoo without sodium lauryl sulfate in the ingredients list. I also find mixing a few drops of castor oil to the shampoo once it's in my hand helps keep my hair healthy. I also add a few drops to my conditioner sometimes too.

I have blond highlights - and these changes have helped the blond bits look just as healthy as the rest of my hair.

My hair is supper fizzy and can get matted if I go too long without cutting it. I use Dove daily moisture or cool moisture. I used the stuff my hair dresser recommended and for some reason those fancy shampoos always leave my hair looking really greasy or extremely dry.

Do you have naturally curly hair? You mentioned frizz so I am guessing you do. I go to places like TJ Maxx and Ross and buy high end shampoos, conditioner and curling / leave in cremes at a discount. You need to probably wash your hair with a cheap clarifying shampoo to get all the build up off of it (even Suave is ok for this) and use that about once a month. Then, all the other times use sulfate and paraben free shampoo and conditioners. The sulfates build up over time and create frizz. Hydration is the best way to fight frizz so keep your hair well conditioned....I add a leave in conditioner mid day to my hair most days b/c even with all this work and fancy products, it can still be frizzy. LOL
