i have long curly THICK hair and it's such a pain to have to deal with so i don't wash it everyday. so i wash it a few times a week and the day i wash it when it dries it looks great, but the next day after i've slept on it it's wild and frizzy and lost some of it's curl.

any suggestions on what do to so it still looks good the next day??

i've tried tieing it back at night but it doesn't really seem to help, it still gets frizzy and crazy.

How bout straight ironing it or wetting it in the am? I have natural curly hair and I have frizzed all my life...hate it. I have to straighten or it drives me nuts.

My routine:

shampoo, rinse

condition, finger comb through hair

get out and squeeze hair out just enough to stop dripping.

Take light-weight gel and rub in between hands

lean over and scrunch your hair, from the neck down, don't put any in the scalp area or it gets plastered to your head.

let air dry.

The next day a little friz may occur, but if you just wet your hands and re-scrunch the areas that need touch ups, you should be good to go.

Opposite, but same desire- to have it look good the next day- I flat iron my curly hair nice and straight, and to make that last for the next day, overnight, I put it in a big ponytail on the TOP of my head (really high - like towards my forehead) and I use a satin scrunchy . Works really well for me!

I had naturally curly hair as a kid. Now it's mostly just naturally wavy and has a mind of its own. You mentioned your hair is long. I can't let mine get past shoulder length or it just gets too thick and wild. I also have to wash it every morning. It's pretty much sticking up everywhere when I get up and the only way to make it look normal is to wash and blow dry it. If, for some reason, I can't wash it I at least have to splash some water on it and blow it dry. It's the only way I can stand it.

i have the same hair!

use a leave in conditioner spray, and comb it out on the days you don't wash it. that really helps with mine.

thanks for all the advice you guys.

however, a lot of you mentioned flat ironing my hair. that would take me about 1 1/2 hours to do everyday.

my hair is 22 inches long and VERY thick.....i don't have the time or even the desire to be there for that long trying to straighten it.

i kind of WANT to keep the curls i don't want to iron them out, you know?

i definatly have to get it cut tho it's driving me NUTS!! i have a friend of a friend that will do it once she recovers from some minor surgery she had. so i think i'm going to have her cut a few inches off because it's crazy!

If your hair isn't already,

I'd have it cut in layers ..long or short, whichever, it helps keep the curl and tends to be less of a mess because your hair is more free to spring into the curls.

I think you need to stop fighting it and just work with it! If it gets frizzy the next day, get some great gel, and scrunch it when it gets like that! Have your hairdresser put some nice long layers in it. you will look better and feel better doing it and not have to spend millions of hours working against it!

One is a mild straightener, also I would have a person that really knows how to thin with proffesional thinning shears, take two side V type angle in sections. NOT too much and make chunks, a great stylist of old school knows how to do this to take bulk and make hair workable.

My two girls were like this, I never had to straighten it at all. They did like irons for special occasions.

Yes definitely have your stylest thin out your hair with thinning shears. Mine did for me and It made all the difference in the world.

I have the same hair. I only wash maybe once a week, but I wet it everyday. Shampoo is rough on curls, so sometimes I don't even wash with shampoo. Instead I will use a conditioner and scrub my scalp. Makes it smell good and gets rid of the grungees. I read a book called, "Curly Girl" and got the suggestion from there. After I wash it, I will use "Be Curly" from Aveda. It's expensive but it doesn't take a lot. I don't like gels or products that leave the curls stiff and crunchy. Be Curly doesn't do that. Because it's so pricey, I use a little and mix a bit of conditioner in with it. I finger comb it through, because a brush will break the curl pattern. Then I style as necessary.

I use a scrunchee at night to keep it up, then in the morning I use a squirt bottle and re-wet until it's saturated. Then I finger comb through it again. The water basically re-activates the product. I use more product whenever it's necessary.

Good Luck!

My sister has that type of hair. She can't brush it while dry, because it ends up being a big frizz ball, but combed out while wet, leaves her hair with the nice curls. So after she brushes it, she justs wets it down with a wet brush (so it gets damp, not all the way wet) which is enough to bring the curls back.

thanks for all the advice you guys!! i DO have layers in my hair but it's been so long since i've had them done that i think they grew out. i'm gonna definatly get some put back in when my friend is up and around and able to do it for me.
