Hair damage at BBB

I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter. I hope it grows back quickly.

I took my daughter to BBB on our last trip (April 2010). Our appt. was right before our dinner at CRT. Before our entrees had even arrived, my daughter was in tears and had me take her to the ladies room to take her hairstyle out. She looked.....interesting....for the rest of the evening in the park. There was so much glitter, gel and hair spray in her hair that there was just no chance of it looking anything close to normal. I think we did a loose ponytail on the top of her head.

I feel sorry for all your little girls but I am still having a hard time understanding this - I teach preschool and I can tell you that many African-American girls have their hair pulled into braids and ponytails MUCH tighter than they could achieve at BBB and I've never seen any of their hair fall out I'm not saying it could never happen, but I've been teaching about 10 years now, let me tell you that some of those styles are so tight the skin of the scalp is pulled away from the head, and I have actually seen some skin tearing but no hair loss due to tight pulling.

I've worked in a pediatric office for 10 yrs and their are MANY girls with this type of hairstyle (dreads, braids, ect) that have hair fall out. They are just good at covering it up with a different part or extensions. It HAPPENS to EVERYBODY. I'm not surprised that people are reporting it there's probably more that havn't. If someone has their hair done and it hurts....take it out don't leave it in for several days , pain is there to remind us something isn't right.

FGITs at BBB don't mind if you ask for it to be looser. It doesn't have to be uncomfortably tight.

We took DD3 to BBB and we had the mid level makeover done. She totally loved it and wore her bun all day long. When we got back to the room DW put DD in the tub, washed her hair, and there were no problems whatsoever. I do know that DW instructed the FGIT to make the bun loose, so maybe that helped. We would definitely do BBB again (if DD wants to) and recommend it to others.

This did happen to my dd too. Except I didn't realize it was from BBB until reading this thread. I noticed it a few weeks after we got home from our trip. We were racking our brains trying to figure out if anything touches her hair in that spot but I kept saying that is not where I put her ponytail (back, side or little one with front hair). We went to dr and then to dermatologist. NOW, this all makes sense! It has grown back now but it was where her ponytail/bun was. She didn't complain about it though and this was her 2nd time doing BBB...didn't happen 1st time around. Next time, I will tell them not so tight.

It almost makes me feel better it was from BBB b/c they just said it was apolecia (sp?) and it could fall out again. So in a weird way, I'm glad it was from BBB.

As a preteen, I got my hair wrapped at the stand at the Beach Club, and I left it in for quite some time. By the time I finally pulled it out, I had a small bald spot surrounding the area where the wrap was. It grew back in relatively quickly, but it was slightly uncomfortable for awhile.

The thing is, the FGIT aren't really hairstylists either..they only can do a few styles. Maybe if they had licensed cosmetologists in there, it would be better? Probably even more expensive though!

Really, there's nothing they do at BBB that any mom couldn't do.

Exactly they aren't licensed cosmetologist!!!! I think all of you who have had this happen should let disney know.They need to retrain and rethink how these girl's hair are being done. I am a licensed cosmetologist and there is no need to pull the hair that tight at all!!!

It happened to both my dds two years ago. They only left it in all day, 8 am appointment and washed it out that night. They both had a quarter sized bald spot (completely bald) about a week later. My oldest had it done when she was three and no problem with that one. Maybe they are making them tighter now? She also had a reaction to the gel which was horrible during the trip. I can do the style much better anyway so we are not going back. Once for the experience is enough anyway. It did grow back and luckily was covered by other hair.

Many FGITs are licensed cosmetologists, and every FGIT must go through hair training for a license that involves sanitation and scalp conditions. All you have to do is ASK for it to be looser. I ask every few minutes if it feels loose enough. I'll be passing on the hair damage info at BBB, because I'm sure no one is even aware of this. I've only heard of it on the boards, so I'm sure no one else had heard of it there unless someone has actually complained.

I knowit has been a while since your daughter lost the hair on her head from BBB. We just went a couple of months ago and two of our girls lost the same patch on their head They are starting treatment from alopecia. But we believe it was from our hair do. Did her hair grow back? has it returned since your trip? We are trying to find others that have had the same experience so that we can attribute this response to the hair at BBB.

I'm relieved to hear it's happened to someone other than us, although sorry for your kids.

This was our third time having it done for my older two kids, first time for the youngest... and probably the last.

My girls have always worn their hair for three days with no problem. However with the other fairy tale princess buns, they were never so tight.

My oldest went with that hairstyle because we've had so many issues getting the hair extensions to stay in on a previous trip.

Sure enough, my youngest picked the blonde hair extenions (against my recommendation) to look like Rapunzel and her hair fell out within an hour of leaving the BBB. They tried to patch it and the patch lasted an hour. We went back the next day and they re-did it into the princess bun. Luckily hers wasn't as tight.

I can certainly say I've had enough of the BBB. Luckily my older two have thouroughly enjoyed the experience.

We just had the same thing happen to us. Two girls from our trip had this happen to their head. Bald spot in the same spot. Has your hair come back? any further incidences? Please let us know as we are trying to find out if this is a huge coincidence or something from BBB.

Same thing happened with dd9. She said it was too tight and hurt, but she wanted to leave it in. She ended up with a bald spot slighty smaller than a dime. This was Christmas week, and it is finally growing back now. We also got her checked for ringworm by a doctor.

I know it has been a long time since the incident with the bald spot... but it just happened to us. two of the girls on our trip and a bald spot on the crown of their head. Did her hair drow back? Has it returned yet? We think it is too much of a coincidence... and we are trying to find more cases to explain what happened.

This same thing happened to my daughter after she went to BBB. She was walking down over the stairs in front of me and I saw this bald spot about the size of a quarter. We took her to the doctor, who sent her to a specialist and they all agreed that it was probably from the hair style she had at BBB. Needless to say she won't be doing that again. Thankfully she is older and doesn't want to do it anymore.

It grew back pretty quickly. It did go through a couple of weeks of wierdness where it stuck straight up, but she dealt with it fine.

Have you had any other issues? We just went and had two girls in our group lose the hair in the crown. Both are being treated for alopecia. But we feel it is too much of a coincidence.

The craziest thing happened today. My 8 year old woke up and was missing a patch of hair on top of her head. It was perfectly fine last night because I fixed it for soccer pictures and no hair was missing.

I took her to the doctor to see if it was ringworm or some other random misc ailment and the diagnosis was hair trauma (it was a little more technical than that).

We are assuming it is from the hair style that she had done at the MK BBB during spring break. The missing spot is in the same spot as where the pony tail was, and about the same size. The doc says the scalp condition and the fact that it happened so quickly probably means that caused it.

I know it was a fluke thing but I still can't believe it. She has had this hairstyle before as have her sisters and we've never had anything like this happen.

I will say, it was REALLY, REALLY tight. She wore it for 3 days and it didn't budge. (Maybe not such a good idea in hindsight). It truly looked just as good as when she had it done, while her sisters were both falling out by that point.

Oh well, there's nothing we can do now but wait for it to grow back and hope it doesn't take too long.

I know it has been a long time since you started this post.... but the same thing happened to us last month. Two girls in our group got the same bald spot. We are trying to see if it is really alopecia or from BBB. Please let me know if you see this or have had any more occurances. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this will help the hair regrowth it may be a long shot but my son was diagnosed with Alopecia & his dermatologist suggested he received painless cortisone shots to the areas where hair wasn't growing and within 2 weeks he had regrowth. Keep a close eye on the spot to make sure hair is regrowing.
