I thought I remember reading that only adults can have their hair done on board. Is the hair braiding an exception to that rule? I know my DD would love to get the braids! She'll be 8 when we go on our West Coast cruise...will she be able to get them done on the ship?

Hair braiding is open to everyone, you just need to make an appointment. They start taking them on the first evening on the Caribbean cruises, but I have no idea what will be available on the California cruises.

The hair salon is only available for adults, but the hair braiding is done right on deck and is open to anyone who wants it done. Lots of little girls on our last cruise had braids in their hair. I am just afraid to let DD have hers done. She is sooooo tender headed that when it is time to take them down, we might have to shave her head. hehehe Also don't know if she would be able to handle the pain of having it done in the first place.

If she seems to be in pain, you can ask the braiders to not do it as tightly. It won't last as long, but three weeks was plenty long for my DDs. I took the braids out using a comb that had a pointy end, working from the end towards the head. Lots of hair came loose, but it was hair she would have lost anyway, not hair that got pulled out in the process of taking the braids out. I took a picture of her before she could escape to the shower--now THAT was the picture to get! :teeth:

Does anyone know what time and where do they start taking the appointments (for the braiding) on the Magic.

Thank you.

Sorry, I do not know the time but we did not know that they even take appointments and they were able to sqeeze my DDs in(on 2 different days). My DDs did not complain about pain just boredom. It took about 45 minutes each (about 3 hours on kid time,LOL). It also took that long to take them out. It looks really cute, though.

They start at 5:30 up in the bar next to the Walt Disney Theatre on deck 4. Double-check the navigator in your stateroom--it will be listed.

How much does it cost on the ship? DD wants to get her's done. But not all the way down. She just was the 'hairband' braid. (I think that's what it is called.)

It's $2 per row for short to medium hair, $2.50 for long hair. It will take somewhere between 15 and 22 rows, depending on who does it.

Hair braiding is free to everyone.... i suggest getting your hair done at port. At nassua i had gone shopping crazy and only had about 20 dollars left... on the way out i decided I HAD to get my hair done. They originally wanted $90.00 ... CRAZY ISNT IT?! i started to leave and they kept asking how much i want to spend, how much do you want to spend pretty girl? (yes you ladies out there will get that A LOT!) So i said.. i only have 20 dollars on me.. im sorry. They gave in and 20 bucks later my hair was braided :)

ONE QUICK THING .... if you get your hair braided the 1st day .... MAKE SURE YOU PUT SUNSCREEN ON BETWEEN THE BRAIDS.... i ended up taking mine out early bc i was so sunburn it hurt to keep them in .

SMooth sailing

My suggestion if you do hair braiding is to put lots of sun screen on between the lines.

When you want to remove the braids what worked best for us was to wet our DD head and than add a ton of conditioner and the braids came right out.

Wish I had read that before I took my daughters out yesterday!!!
What a pain!
We tease her though, she sat still for an hour on the beach at St Maarten, and she never sits that long for anything. (very short attention span!) We now have proof she can sit that long!
She just wanted the braids so so bad!

I've heard horror stories about it being so painful! Are they any gentler on the ship? My DD10 would look so cute with the hairband braid but I know she can't stand the pain!
