Hi everyone,

Just wanting to know if its possible to get your hair braided onboard?

Thanks,
Mel:flower3:

yes it is. In fact we had our 5 yo DD hair done during the sail away party. No line and it was done in 20 minutes. Turned out beautifully. 2 dollars a braid. They are quick and good. THey do ask for appts but if you walk up they may have an opening like we got.

yes, after the boat drill they set up shop on the deck. You go up at that time and set a time. MY DD started hers done around during the sailaway party. Cost about $35 to have her crown done. You can also have it done at Nassau and I think at Castaway. However I have read reviews about cleanliness issues at Nassau. I would rather have it done on board rather than use our port time

If you're talking corn rows, be sure you use something to keep her scalp from burning in the exposed areas.

Not only do they do it, I recommend doing it on board rather than in port at Nassau. We got ripped off in Nassau and the braids weren't great. When we did it on board the first time, it wasn't too expensive and they lasted a long time. Just don't do it on the day at sea, it's hard to get a time.

We booked DDs time first thing Sunday morning (the day after boarding). They do set up and start taking bookings during the sailaway party, but we completely forgot. She had hers done that afternoon (we were in port for Key West). It lasted 3 weeks, and cost about $25. Another advantage is that you only need to provide your KTTW card, and pay at the end of the week - no cash required. The ladies are friendly, and work 8 am to 8 pm all week long. They have a binder and you can go through and select the style you want...

I was wanting just a few braids on one side for me and for DD. Can you do that or do you have to get your whole head?

Whatever you want. They charge per braid, and they will also wrap a strand of hair in colored thread. You can have them braid just back to the crown and then add beads, which looks like a pretty headband. You can have whatever size you want, and pick beads in all colors. :hippie:

How do the beads stay in?

And do you still get hassled in port asking to braid your hair?

I've never cruised, but I do braid and get my hair braided often.

A very small rubber band is used to hold the beads on the bottom in place.

You can purchase them in black, white, clear or mulit.(red, blue, green, yellow) You can buy rubber bands and beads in a beauty supply store.

I've never had it done since my forehead is too big to be exposed like that!!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: I had it done, just didn't have them do my bangs.

Yea, gotta have those bangs. I don't know how many times I've tried to grow them out but can't stand that forehead peaking out!! Maybe it's my eyebrows I don't like. :confused3 But good idea about leaving the bangs.

Good to know that they can do this and the hair wraps, too - thanks for the info.:)

And, when it's time to take those braids out, buy a bottle of cheap conditioner ( like Suave or a store brand). Use the whole bottle , just work it into the braids and let it sit for a few minutes. While it's soaking in, you can start to take the elastics off. They'll basically just slide off the hair (no breakage) becuase the conditioner makes it so slick. You can then use a wide comb to un-do the braids or just use your fingers. It's amazing to do it this way - it doesn't hurt one bit and they literally come undone themselves. We learned this many years ago on vacation in Jamaica and it's never failed.
