A friend of mine has 3 children. DD-9, twin girls-5. She just found out she is pregnant and due Dec 25. She had her tubes tied after the twins.
Yea..she is 42 and while she is happy there is a baby on the way, she is not happy, if you know what I mean.

She said after this one, tubes will be fixed again and DH will have vasectomy!

I had that happen to a co-worker also!! She had 2 youngs daughters and was done with her babymaking ways so she had the surgery. A couple of years later, low and behold, another baby!!

She was not happy and contacted the doctor who did the surgery. He told her that she signed a waiver acknowledging the fact that the surgery may not work. Only problem (for the doctor) is they can't find the form now.

Our chaplin's wife had her tubes tied and her husband, our chaplin, had a vesectomy. She gave birth last month to boy #6. I would be cutting snipping double knotting and burning.

Wow, their guys and gals are determined!

That would be a big shock to think everything was all tied up and then...BABY ON THE WAY! I certainly understand why these parents are upset and I hope they end up finding these suprises to be blessings!

I know when I had mine done back in 12/97, the dr went over the waiver with both DH and I. It spelled out the odds of pregnacy within the 1st year all the way out to 10 years later. She also let us know that she coterizes more spots than most of the other dr's in their office.

10 1/2 years later, odds seem to be in our favor. We closed the factory after 1 of each and someone seems fine with it, as we haven't been told by God "you need atleast one more, so surprise your pregnat".

Yep, I had a coworker that became pregnant after a tubal ligation, also.
And while these babes are loved it sure can wreak havoc in the 'well made plans of mice & men'! :)

I have had mine done but I take BC pills too, as an extra measure. If I became pregnant, I would be devastated.

Watch out for those slip knots! :rotfl2:

I was an only child for 10 years, while my mother tried desperately for another. The doctors said it would never happen, so while she was 'under' for a different surgery she had her tubes tied as well. This way she felt she had some closure, and could stop the monthly emotional roller coaster.
Less than a year later, she was pregnant with my little brother. Some babies are just destined to get here, I guess. :goodvibes

I've heard that this could happen that they could untied and you could get pregnant, so knowing this I talked to my dr. about having the tubal ligation.

I told him this " look you need to cut, double knot and burn them, but I have three children I don't need any more, I said because if they come undone you can take your phone number out of the phone book", he looked at me and I said "you will not be needing to talk to any one because I'm coming after you." He thought I was funny, but I really wanted him to know, you need to make sure it works.

He was a nice dr. but look if it takes burning them after you tie them, then do it, sew them together, I don't care I just want it to work.
It's been over 25 years now so I guess the dr. is safe now. LOL

I feel sorry sorry for anyone that had their tubes tie and had them come undone.

I would be too! These stories scare me. I didn't have my tubes tied just because I don't want more kids. I had it done because the last kid almost killed me. So an unexpected surprise would not be a happy one. Maybe I should talk to my doctor about backup BC.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Oh I so did not need to hear this. I just had my tubes tied in March and like MeanQueen, the last, and only, one nearly killed me.

Well it's been 10 years and 2 days (I know because it was the day after DS
was born) and so far, so good....I'm going on 45 so I'm way too old for any more, let the famous rich people in Hollywood have kids in their mid 40s!

I am 10 years out and still working. No more babies here.

I would be hanging from the rafter in the garage.:rotfl:

I was going to mention this same thing. I've heard it happen a couple of times.

We had a tubal ligation done at the same time as our C-Section with our youngest. She not only cut and tied, but she also soldered! Felt like a welding project was going on down there!

If we had another baby I know I would handle it better than DH. Though we just traded in our SUV for a sedan not a mini-van. There would be no room back there for a baby carrier! Ours are both still under the age of 6 and sit in those BIG Britax Regent seats. Also we only have 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 downstairs. It would be hard to figure out who would be "banished" downstairs as no scenario really works out very well (our boys currently share their room).

I would also be in that category of bed rest on this one as I was with the last two. Hence the reason we tied the tubes in the first place! I think when we were discussing this option with my OB she said that if I did end up pregnant within a 10 year window their offices would take care of the pregnancy through delivery free of charge, and also re-perform the tubal ligation again, I think the copy I have is downstairs in our file.

My Gyn refused to tie my tubes after my C-section. Way back in 87 he said the rate of them reversing when done after surgery was 1:200 but if you wait one year and then do the ligation, the rate was 1:2000. He said to wait the one year and come back for the ligation. We did wait the year but it was DH who went under the knife. :lmao:

Years ago, my mother's best friend had her tube's tied after her 4th. About 3 years later she started getting sick and went to the doctor. It was OOPS! Your pregnant!

I had mine done a little over 15 years ago about 2 months after my last baby. I was read the failure rates, signed the waiver...so far so good.

My doctor is another that does all 3: cut, tie, cauterize. Called it the CTC surgery. he also said I had to be 100 % sure I wasn't going to want it reversed because he does it so well it was not ever going to be able to be reversed. Guess he was right.

My doctor used "clips" (clamps) when she did mine - she claimed they have a much higher success rate. Here's hoping she's right!:thumbsup2 :goodvibes
