Had to Cancel my May Trip :(

:grouphug: Prayers headed your way... :grouphug:

Was your FIL going on the trip? If so, he might need a pay it forward card from Mickey with some get well wishes... Or a card for your kids maybe? If I was going back this weekend I'd do it in a heartbeat.

May God be with you and your family in this time of need. Our prayers are with your father-in-law, your family, and yourself at this time. Keep heart and faith though, medical advancements are amazing and people are resiliant. He may just come through this and be fine, such a miracle has happened to many people before. :) Please let us know how it's progressing and feel free to vent here when you need to. Traumatic experiences are stressing enough without a venue to vent everything all out.

I am so sorry! Our prayers are with you and your family. I live about 20 miles east of Dallas, so am fairly near you. We've had a really rough time the last few weeks with my dad. He has alzheimers, recently got violent, and started obsessing about setting fires, so we had no choice but to put him in a nursing home at 74y/o. It's been really rough. He's still alive of course, but it feels like we've lost him. With alzheimers you lose them twice. Anyway, I said all that to let you know that I know the feeling of helplessness you feel right now. Again our prayers are with you!!
Our prayers are also with your family, father, and yourself as well Aubriee. If you ever need to vent feel free to PM me. I used to work as a Resident Aide at a nursing home for patients with alzheimers so have really seen a lot of families go through what you must now be experiencing. Keep heart though, deep down inside he is still your dad, and loves you and remembers you somewhere. :) You'll always be his little girl even if it feels like losing him twice, he's always right there with you in your heart, so long as you remember the vibrant disease free person he was beforehand. :)

my dad, age 73 , has parkinsons, we live in california, mom and dad live
in oregon. He is doing "fine", and my mom, age 68 is taking care of him
"very well" they will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next
month. I worry about them, my mom was diagnosed with rymatroid (sp?)
arthritis in her ankles last month..I had a dream a couple nights ago that
my mom put my dad in a nursing home, said she could not deal with it anymore....she has never said anything like this, these are probably just my
own fears manifesting themselves into my dreams..but I know in my heart the
day will come...like the OP said..you guys are like my second family..we share,
we corraborate, we plan, sometimes we even argue.....

Thank you everyone! Your prayers are working! This morning he opened his eyes and woke up a little. When my brother in law would talk to him, he would blink in response, he also tried to smile and cry and has some movement in his legs and arms! Thank you so much. God bless everyone! :goodvibes

I went to see him an hour ago. I told him I loved him and he mouthed the words "I love you too". I'm so happy! He recovered well from his shoulder surgery. He will also have to get a halo to keep his head in line with his neck. He is still on a ventilator, but he is getting better with that too. Thanks for all your support. You all are truly wonderful and thoughtful people. God bless.

God Bless you and your family during this time.

artnsonia, that's wonderful news!

My family will include Jerry in our prayer list. I'll also mention your family's situation Sunday morning in our Bible Study class as we discuss our prayer requests.

Let your FIL know he has people praying for him from all over the country.
