HA/HC rooms?

I was reading a thread here recently and HA and HC were used intermittently. The subject was "rooms", so I figured "HA" meant "Handicapped accessible" but I wasn't sure what "HC accessible" meant.

What is the difference between the two types of rooms?

I'm sure that one of the disABILITIES vets will correct me quickly if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that these are interchangable ABBRs.

HA: Handicapped Accessible

HC: Handicapped Accessible

And I think there are two types of HA rooms: standard rooms with grab bars in the bathrooms (tub, toilet), and rooms that have roll in showers and roll under sinks.

It's not always easy to tell exactly what people mean when they use those terms. You are correct that when people write HA or handicapped, they are meaning Handicapped. Some people use the word "accessible" to mean it is a fully accessible room with a roll in shower. Some people mean that it has other features for accessibility - like grab bars in the shower and by the toilet.

I usually specify by adding "with a roll in shower" because we have been unpleasantly surprised at times by getting a 'handicapped room' with just a tub.

Sue - DH & I were looking at that link and that's where we noticed the terms "HA" and "HC" and we were thinking that perhaps they meant different things, but it looks like both mean "handicapped".
