H & V or Mama Melrose

Hi everyone! Our trip is coming up in 18 days This is our first time using the dining plan and eating at any of the sit down restaurants. So I'm wondering if you can give me any feedback on dinner at Hollywod and Vine vs. Mama Melrose. Right now I have H&V booked, but I'm teetering about changing to Mama Melrose. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks

H&V was the most awful meal we ever had at WDW, had to wait an hour past ADR time (it was the holidays an no where else to go) and then the restaurant is half empty once we get inside and we were surrounded by dirty tables that no one cleared off the entire time we were there, the waitress was nonexistant and we had to put our dirty dishes on the other tables, she never came around for drink refills and DH had to hunt her down for the check but the worst of it is the food was terrible.

MM is pretty good but I would pick 50s PT if it was available.

We have 50's scheduled for another day. So maybe I'll change the Mama Melrose. Any other opinions?

Never eaten at H & V, but I'll be real honest, I wouldn't go back to Mama Melrose. Food was just okay. Service was horrible. JMHO!

How about the sci fi dine in? Any experiences there? Do they only have the cars to sit in or are there tables. That was my draw back there. We are a party of three and one of use would end up sitting alone looking at the others backs. If they had tables that would be a different story. Thanks for all your opinions.

I'm with MickeyNicki! H&V is one restaurant we will never go back to!

MM has been fine the couple of times we've gone. It's kind of like a nice Olive Garden. Sci-Fi is fun & good food. They do have a few tables, but I'm not sure if they're reserved for HA.

We just at at MM and will not be back there. Our kids didn't even eat their noodles and butter - it was that bad.

I ate dinner at Hollywood & Vine on Friday, and the food was worse than I remember. Mama Melrose is decent so I'd definitely pick it over H&V.

We liked our meal at Mama Melrose but the service was S..L..O..W. I took DD and left before dessert because she just couldn't sit still anymore, my sister stayed to finish her meal and take care of the check. I'd go back, but next time I'll tell them in advance that I'm in a hurry so maybe we can get out in a reasonable amount of time.

We like Sci Fi and have eaten there several times. I'm not sure about the tables and how they're assigned though. Usually it's the opposite and everyone wants a car. I've seen the tables go empty when I've been there. Maybe you could call and ask if it's possible to request a table?

Neither of these restaurants seem to get fantastic ratings and both get miserable ones frequently. I would even say for a 2TS Hollywood Brown Derby gets too many unfavorable comments. I say decide if you prefer table service or buffet, get a Fantasmic pkg ADR and go for it. At this point you have H&V and may not be able to get MM for a Fantasmic pkg, so it may be a moot point.

My family had the H&V Fantasmic pkg in Aug/Sep 2007. We had a good meal. The service by Brenda was really friendly. Our then 6yo was very very interested in his kids activity sheet, more so than any other restaurant. The air conditioning was to die for on a very hot August day. It was not a meal we rave about at WDW, but it worked that night and we really liked having the Fantasmic package.

Mama,definitely. H&V is okay, but not near as good as Crystal Palace. Not much in the way of ambiance either.

we like H&V, but we love MM!
if you already have some buffets on your list, go for MM! if you don't have any italian meals on your list, go for MM!
whatever you decide, enjoy!

H&V is one of two (maybe three) Disney restaurants that we will neer step foot into again (the other being Boatwright's for dinner and we may add WCC to that list). H&V was filthy both times we went, lousy service, lukewarm mediocre food--and that's when there were not empty containers.

We really like Mama Melrose and go every year.

I was wondering the same thing! I want to do the fantasmic package for my x-mas trip in 09'. I ate at H & V in 06' and I liked it. This past August we ate there again and we had to wait for an hour past our ADR time in the hot sun to be seated. The food wasn't that fantastic and my sister got sick afterwards

I think I am going to attempt MM this time around. I wish they would add the other restaurants to the fantasmic package. I throughly enjoyed sci-fi!

Me too! From the reviews I'm reading maybe H&V would be empty for dinner if you could get a FDP at Sci-Fi or 50's PTC.

H & V has always been one of my son's favorite places, so we eat there everytime. This summer the food and the cleanliness was terrible. We will not eat there again. The only bad meal we had the entire vacation.
