I am considering picking up a part time job at Gymboree to help pay off my upcoming trip. Of course I would also like to reep the benefits of an employee discount to snazz up my two and a half year old DD!! Does anyone know what, or even if, the employee discount is?? I have also heard that you can not get a discount on top of sale items. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks for your help.

If I recall correctly, it's 30% off of regular priced merchandise. I do know that you get nothing off of sale. Also, when they run things special (Jingle Deals, Baby Sale, ect.) you get what everyone else gets. If something is temporarily $10, you pay $10 or your employee discount, whichever is lowest. It's been almost 3 years since I worked there so I am almost sure about the 30%.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll fill out an app and see what happens!! Anything is better than nothing at Gymbo! Their stuff is sooo cute! :lovestruc

I worked there last year and the discount was 40% off regular prices merchandise. You get 30% off at Janie and Jack. About twice a year they would have employee appreciation days and you could get 50% off full prices items and I think 30% off sale.

You will get 40% off. But as someone else said, nothing extra off sales, etc. You do not really come out ahead, as any employee will tell you, you can often get better deals (sale + Gymbucks) than you do as an employee. The real advantage of being an employee is getting to buy new lines right away at 40% off, and getting first pick at sale items before the public. I hated that a salesperson at my Gymboree would clean out an entire size before a big sale...the exact same size as my DD. There would literally be 3 things in her size when other sizes were packed. I didn't understand it til I went there one day right as the sale started and saw her HUGE pile of stuff sitting there.

Every single person I have known that has worked at Gymboree, Penneys, Childrens Place, or even Pottery Barn or Williams & Sonoma have spent everything they made there. And that was their intent. Getting out of the house for a bit and everything at a discount.

I work for Gymboree, and the previous poster is correct. 40% off full price merch at Gymbo, 30% off at J&J, and 25 or 30% at Crazy 8 (all off full price). A few times a year we'll get the 30% off sale and 50% off full.

Wow! 40% is better than 30%. And the once in awhile appreciation day sales sound even better! Thanks ;)

Yeah, that's what I was just figuring too. Maybe better off getting public deals than associate deals. Oh well, like you said atleast I'll get first pickings! And I won't clean them out. I will save some for everyone else!!

LOL! I need Disney money too. I will just have to tell myself that every payday!! :rotfl:

Am I correct though that employees can't use coupons? I get that they can't earn/redeem gymbucks, but for the coupons that are in the magazines..they can't use those either?

No, you can not use them on top of your employee discount. Most of the magazine coupons are 20% and they already get 40.

I used to work at Gymboree a long time ago so my advice may not be pertinent today.

We did get 40% off new lines and nothing on sale. I did spend a lot of money there! But it was very high pressure. When I was there you were expected to be very pushy in sales. The more you sold and more $ per transaction, the more hours you received. It became hard for me to push sales on people. And if your manager did not like something you did, she could schedule you on very off hours where you could not generate the sales that others did in "prime time hours".

I've worked commissioned sales also, Gymboree was as high pressured as any commissioned job that I have had. Without the commission.

I have to say I had a great manager and I loved it there. It really depends on the manager and the store. I was pregnant with #1 and was available during the day. She would schedule me with her so she could get paperwork, the schedule, ect. done. I loved that I worked like 11-3 and was home in time to get dinner done. The ONE really bad thing for alot of the people was the on-call scheduling. You had to call in a few hours early to see if they needed you. Once I started working mostly days with the manager the on-call went away for me.

I will say that MATCH is the worst thing ever! I was also so paranoid about the secret shopper and not doing everything in MATCH that was required. Luckily, I always did well, but I hated the pressure.

Make everyone feel welcome!
Approach with product!
Teach mix and match!
Choose three accessories!
H ? I just member having to tell everyone about the Visa at check-out.

LOL. Actualy... I would be applying for a part time assistant manager position!

I did that for a little while before I left to have a baby. Luckily no on call for you, but you still have to do MATCH! :rotfl2: That was the worst part!
