UGGH.... I don't like nuclear power.. and now there is even more danger from terrorists attacking them... :sad2:

Let us not forget Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and the China Syndrome too! Can't wait for the next melt down! :sad2:

Yes, we have nuclear power plant accidents and terrorist attacks on them daily. :rolleyes1

Actually, we may be forced into this. Renewable energy isn't efficient enough yet by a long shot and the alternative is highly polluting coal, oil and gas, all three of which are due to run out in the next few generations.

Two things:

1st, he probably said we needed more "nucular" power plants, since the man isn't bright enough to pronounce the word correctly :teeth:

2nd - Nuclear power gets a bad rap. It's actually quite safe, particularly with the advances in technology over the last few decades. But because of what happened at Three Mile Island (feel free to ignore Chernobyl, as we would never get that lax about things), nuclear power faces a huge PR problem that has never been overcome.

In reality, nuclear power is cheap, and it's as safe as living near plant that houses natural gas. Yes, it produces waste, and that's an issue that needs to be addressed (and I don't mean just dumping it out west somewhere), but coal burning plants produce waste too...it just takes longer to kill you. Overall, I agree with the Dunce in Chief on this one. It's certainly worth looking into, at least.

He needs to focus on the REFINERIES. It's the typical politican....I'll bring up something you like while I bring up something you don't like and maybe you won't notice. :sad2:

Exactly. I'd rather live near a nuclear plant than a coal plant.

And wind....maybe Bushie needs to take a trip to Epcot and watch Ellen and Bill Nye The Science Guy.

We do need more nuclear power plants, regardless of how badly it's pronounced.

This is the first thing that popped into my mind :rotfl:

I am also a nuclear guy. If we had not stopped building them, figuring in new technology, we might be only needing our own oil production by now.

Yes, but remember the only renewable, never-ending resource is.... brain power. (Which I think Bush needs more of, too!) :rotfl2:

i have to say, i completely agree. i get really angry when i think about the anti-nuclear lobbies of the 70's.

The references to Bush's brainpower notwithstanding, I agree with wvrevy and others posting here. We do need more nuclear power plants.

Solar power and wind power are still too undeveloped to be of much use unfortunately. Nuclear power is a good thing when handled properly but the issue of waste needs to be addressed first. That stuff has to be dumped somewhere!

The ability to properly dispose of the "tailings" is also "undeveloped'
that is one reason why nuclear power is far from ideal!!

The tailings have half -lives of millions of years.

That is radioactive folks..... lets not just encase it in concrete , dump it in the ocean and hope our grandchildren can figure out a solution...

Well, to power the UK we'd need to cover an area the size of Scotland, I believe, in windfarms - solar isn't much better, although it can help :)

Actually... cover Scotland you say...

What we need is Nuclear Fusion.

Obvious statement, I know. It's also a bit pie-in-the-sky. But we do have working reactors! The problem is that they don't even cut even...

But there is some hope here :)

Investment needed, methinks.
