I have worked at my job for over 5 years, and I totally love it. However, the other full time lady in my department is soooooo miserable it is making me dread coming in every morning! She is 51 years old, has 3 kids, married for like 27 years. I know everyone has crabby days, which happens, fine, you deal with it. She comes in and it just brings me down. Ask her how her weekend at the cabin up north was...nothing special, just a weekend. Ask her if she is doing anything exciting on a night or weekend...nope, never do anything exciting. I am currently working in my department and another department, splitting time. When someone has a question on work that I did in my regular department, she will come throw a file on my desk and say she doesn't know what is going on, and that I should deal with it, instead of making an effort or asking me nicely for help. She had surgery on her knee in November and still is not feeling good, but she is way too much in woe-is-me mode. Truthfully, the part time lady in my department and I have decided that she is bi-polar, and really does need some help, but how do you bring that up to someone??

I don't think you do say anything to her.

This is always a sticky situation, and one that needs to be handled gently, and probably not by you. It seems more like a job for your boss or your HR department.

I have a colleague who was like this. Until it really started to affect her work though, and we started getting complaints from patients and their families(I'm a nurse), there wasn't much that could be done. And then, what did get done was not that she got fired, or suspended or whatever, but she was referred for some psychological help.

I don't notice a huge difference, frankly.

Today is really miserable with her. And I think that she really does let it affect her work. She is used to me doing most of the work, and now that I am splitting time between two jobs, she has to do more, and doesn't know how to handle it.

I had someone like that at a previous job, I contacted HR (a couple times)
and they did talk to her, but she continued, It got to me so bad (we were working side by side our desks after a year 1/2 and no help, I quit. I went to everyone I could. Except the owners, she started with them (very small mom & pop company) since no one ever got rid of her, they just re shuffled her around and she was contantly saying " I am 51 years old-etc etc" besides fear loosing their own jobs, I think it was fear of lawsuit(s). I ended up doing her work too, because she was always on the phone with her only daughter-
so the work had to get done....

Boy did I regret it! She's still there-
and my job had very flex hours, nothings changed, accecpt I quit,
DON"T QUIT. Only hurt yourself. :confused3
Not nice to say, but people like that cannot change, and they don't want to, either a rotten marriage, she's chemically imbalanced, or maybe that's just the way she is=a NUTCASE. It's hard to ignore, but focus on what makes you happy, and focus on that. Obviously she has nothing emotionally, maybe someday she's tick the wrong boss off, and they'll find some defense (legit) to get rid of her.
Ignore it, and realize how full your own life is and focus on other things
ignore it!!!!! :cloud9:
Some people are just flat out miserable and nothing is going to change things.

I know if I can find another flex (made my own hours) like this again, I have learned my lesson, I d never quit again for someone else!!!!

I have a boss that I believe is bipolar. One day she is up and the next day she is way down. If she has a fight with her boyfriend we feel it. If she had a good night with her boyfriend we feel it. It is such a shame to have to work for or with people that have such problems. People and customers have complained about her for years. No one seems to do anything about her. I work in a retail store. She is the manager. If you want to keep your job you just have to make her happy. She has been passed up for promotions so she makes everyone know how unhappy she is about it. Our store just has to pay the price. I think her bosses punish her by not promoting her. Thats does nothing to help the people she works with on a daily basis. The one thing I don't understand about her is she has an extreme love of animals. I would think if you love animals so much you would have to be a kind person. This is so not true of her. If you tell her your parent died she looks at you and wants to know how long you will be out. If you tell her your cat died she will offer you counseling, time off,and anything else to make you feel better. It is very sad we have to tolerate people that have so many problems. Work places should have therapists and prosac on hand for out of control employees. I know this may sound bad, but for what I wrote above that is why I would be very leary on voting for a women for President. Men can be bad but women have way too many hormone issues.
