Yes, as long you:
1. Do not have more people in the room than are allowed.
2. If you are on the dining plan then they will have to be a part of it for the entire length of stay.

Are you allowed to have guest come stay with you for a night?
You simply add them to your reservation. They count toward occupancy and DP options if applicable as noted above.

Even if the guest is staying only for the last night, they still need to be on the dining plan?

The rules that affect you are that everyone staying must be listed in the room and that EVERY guest must be on the DP for the entire length of that reservation no matter their actual LOS. So yes, if they stay overnight they are supposed to be paid for the entire reservation.

I just had an overnight guest - and I inquired at the desk before hand. The cast member said just come back on the day and they will issue her a room key. She never showed on the reservation at all and she only stayed the one night.

That's a wonderfully sensible solution, assuming you remained under the occupancy limit. Unfortunately, it makes too much sense to think that this would be applied consistently, system-wide. I think you got lucky.::yes::

If your guest needs Magical Express and will arrive with you, you cannot add them once you arrive. They need to be on your reservation from the start.

I assume what you're saying is to add them later with the intent of bypassing the DP rules. While this may work (or may not), to do so intentionally to bypass the rules would be dishonest. In this situation the intent is the real issue more than anything else. IMO Disney/DVC should allow some flexibility with the DP much like they did with the Food n Fun in the mid to last 90's where they'd officially let you drop ONE day front or back and often would allow you to drop both though they still required everyone to get it. They should also allow it to be purchased or added at check in. Still, it's their BBQ and we should attempt to follow their rules. After that it's up to THEM whether to alter their rules which Disney does all the time.

Don't ask don't tell.

Best reply yet, lol. We had a friend stay one night once. We live over 1300 miles from Disney and My two Daughters had friends that were also sisters show up at DHS. My oldest stayed with her friends resort for the night and the youngest stayed with us. We never told Disney. Saw no reason to bother them late at night with this issue.

The original poster did not mention that they are on the Dining plan or did I miss something.

They fully allow you to add someone to your room (assuming occupancy is fine) after checkin but not require them to be on the dining plan. I've never heard of someone being denied. What the PP said isn't any concern I've ever heard anyone be concerned about before.

When we Neely had such a guest the DVC resort didn't have a problem with it, had procedures in place, and it would have been easy. I would have wanted her to have a parking pass and would have wanted her official in case of fire/other emergency.

I had the same situation and was told the same thing by the CM at the front desk. Our guest was added the day he checked in (mid-stay), got a parking pass and a key. No problem.

We just had a similar situation as well. Granted, we were at VGC so there was no dining plan involved. My family if four checked into a 1BD and my Mom was coming down the next day, for only 1 night..... Our reservation was for 3 nights. I inquired as how to handle this, and they stated that it was no problem. When she arrived, simply go back down to GS, and they will issue her a room key. We did just that. Easy.

We've done this several times but in situations where we truly didn't know the person was coming or that they were staying the night. IMO it comes down to intent. Dishonest people will purposefully wait to add them to bypass other rules such as the DP rules. This option also assumes you're within occupancy. That's one of the reasons I think Disney needs to change their rules on the DP being added prior to check in but it's their rule and their choice. It's no different than using DP credits for those not on the plan, it happens a fair amount. If you ask honestly and are allowed, their rules their choice. Otherwise it doesn't matter, add them now or add them later if it doesn't make any difference on other issues such as the DP or occupancy.

Sent from my IPad using DisBoards.

I've done the first and have had the exact choice by the front desk twice - meaning when I couldn't put them on ahead of time - ahead time is what I regularly do even when I think family/friends might just need a key only/not staying over. Probably 75% of my stays have had this issue of adding on guests.

But I think I will go with the agreement arrows ;) next time. Seriously.
