Guests with disabilities ride access

I think people need to be prepared for getting the rent a scooter or wheelchair answer I will have my scooter and I am very worried that they will see the scooter and ignore my needs when I go in October I am trying to prepare myself to miss most rides but it's hard to just accept I am hoping I get a DAS but if I don't I will be the one babysitting my grandson

I really encourage you to briefly explain, in writing, why you need the DAS in addition to your scooter. You can hand that guest services, or use it to help you stay focused if you feel flustered when speaking with the CM. If you have non-mobility needs that make the DAS necessary in order to access the attractions, you have to be able to articulate that to the CM at GS.

If someone comes along to say the info presented is somehow flawed or that there is a misunderstanding of how things work which may be leading to an unnecessary decision thats fine, and why I am here and why I am still reading.

I hope something does change but until then I have enough to deal with without subjecting mystlf to pain & the stress of pushback, so the easy answer is just avoid it

you have two options:

one, go in to GS WITHOUT the ECV and explain your needs,

Two: be prepared to explain fully ( in writing if necessary) why exactly the ECV cannot fully accommodate your issues with waiting in line

There have been many inconsistencies in the implementation of the DAS, no doubt about it. But one of the most consistent things has been that if the issue is related to mobility, DAS is not the answer.

Think about why you can't wait in the long standby lines...if it all comes back to mobility, as you've mentioned previously, then it isn't likely that you would receive a DAS. If there are other reasons (unrelated to mobility) why you can't stand in a long standby line, then you need to be able to articulate those reasons with the CM at GS in order to receive a DAS.

you are bound and determined that there is nothing that can be done for your situation and yet you are not open to any suggestions as to what can be done to maybe make it happen.

you have yet to even imply that other accommodation may be necessary outside of the WC/ECV route but at the same time you are insisting that your Disney trips are forever done because of DAS being implemented.

so don't come on here telling us we just don't understand and being all bitter when all we are trying to do is explain the system and what you will need to do in order to maximize your chances of an enjoyable trip

Is there something about your condition you struggle with that is not stamina or mobility related?

What suggestions exactly? I came on here to ask about DAS and when I thought it might work I discovered that DAS is unlikely for mobility issues. Then I learned that the most common recommendation is WC/ECV for physical issues but nothing seems available beyond that, no alternatives. Is there something else not mentioned to add?

Think about your situation. If you wait in the standby line what will happen? Can that be corrected by a wheelchair/ECV? If not, why?

Disney is pretty cut and dry. There have been a couple situations where guest services said they weren't able to help my son. And were aware and received suggestions from other guests who had the same problems. And forwarded those suggestions to the appropriate people.

They realize not everyone can wear a one size fits all disability card. They do try to accommodate on an individual basis. But you have to be able to verbalize why you can't stand in a standby line and it has to fall within the realms of what they are allowed to do to accommodate.

What sort of assistance are you feeling is the best to meet your needs for equal access given your condition?

Your original post did not mention DAS, you asked about FP and disabled access and maybe seemed to confuse the two. When people explained the new DAS system and the fact that Disney considers the queues accessible, you got mad at the other posters. It is starting to see like you do want to skip lines. With a DAS, if a queue is 40 minutes, a guest will be asked to wait elsewhere for 30 minutes, then return and go through the FP queue. In your original post you seemed to have preformed a negative option of the new FP system, so what exactly are you expecting if you are able to obtain a DAS?

You also mentioned that you can't be stationary or wait? Does this mean you have to pace back and forth for the 30 minutes prior to entering the FP queue? How long are you able to sit for a meal without having to walk? Or do you have to only eat while moving? What about waiting in line for transportation or riding to and from the parks? Are you forced to move in the aisles of the bus? You seem to be saying that accessible queues are somehow not accessible to you, and you are refusing to consider the suggestions that you could use a wheelchair or rollator as a walker to have a place to sit down if necessary. You also seem to be under the impression that the queues don't move, when most of the time, they move pretty constantly. So you could use your FP+ to skip the slower moving queues that might be an issue for you. Logic dictates that you manage your condition while taking Disney transportation, while eating, while in shows and while doing anything else in the parks and resorts. Why can't you do the same in the queues? Why is the only answer that you skip the lines? What response do you expect from Disney or from the people on this board offering suggestions? It seems like using FP+ and using a mobility aid in queues just isn't special enough, not that it absolutely wouldn't work for you.

I've tried literally 4 different times to write a post that basically said these things and have failed so badly each time that I have just discarded them. You have said what I wanted to very eloquently. Thank you.

:worship: --> You

Not mad, just frustrated with the way disability is changing my world; although I have to say I think some people are being disrespectful.

I think I'll just wait until the kids go off to college in a few years so I can visit in early December when things are less busy & lines won't be an issue.

I'm sad that in this case, you are allowing the disability to change your world when you wouldn't have to.

I'm also sorry that you feel that people are being disrespectful, however, I'll say that it is frustrating to try to offer advice to someone that has convinced herself that she can't be helped.

It's obviously your choice if you decide not to go for years, but it's a shame that you would do that rather than try the suggestions here for using a rollater or wheelchair.

The bottom line is that Disney is required to offer mobility accommodations, which they do. But they aren't required to offer the guest-preferred accommodation.

since you refuse to explain why a WC or ECV will not fully satisfy your wants, then any alternatives are UP TO YOU TO FIGURE OUT

you do not seem to be willing to do that and are placing the entire burden on DISNEY to handle it. instead of being proactiev and managing yoru disability yourself.

what do you want from them( and us?!) WHY will an ECV/WC not satisfy you?!

I think this thread has reached an ending point, so I am ending it.
