I have some good friends who will be traveling to WDW next week. They have child who is autistic and wil probably need to avoid lines/long waits as the crowds will be just enough for him to handle. (They really wanted to go during another time of the year, but it just didn't work out for them).

Since they are only planning on going to the MK for one day, can they get a special disabilities pass at City Hall? If so, how does that work? They can bring a letter from a doctor if necessary.

Thanks!

I suggest asking on the disabilities board here on the DIS. You will get lots of great advice from those folks.

Guest Assistant Card can be obtained at any park's guest services. You do not need a doctor notes.

It does not guarentee "front of the line" or shorter lines. Sometimes it is not consistent with the CMs. Most of the time you get a fast past for the attraction.

Go to the Disability board. There have been many questions about this and Sue one of the Moderator is an expert on answering questions on disabilities.

The Guest Assistance Pass has instructions (some are abbreviated into a stamped icon) that vary with the guest's disabilities.

The GAC may provide for such things as waiting "in the shade under the tree over there" instead of in line but almost never grants front of the line access over and above getting fast passes in the normal fashion.

Sometimes the CM at a ride goofs and lets you in with a much shorter wait. Once in awhile the CM goofs and sends you off to the wrong entrance or the wrong line, wasting your time.

It is not necessary to show the GAC at every ride and attraction, just those places where you feel special treatment is needed.

Our daughter has Down syndrome and there's no way that we could ever do Disney without the GAC card. We have always been really lucky that we have been treated with respect by the cast members. It's truly the way to go.

My niece has a special needs child and when I went with them we never had to wait at all on anything. I think a few of the rides had a different entrance than the fast pass.

I believe the card was for 6 people.

Thanks so much - I'm sure that they will not even be riding many rides - most likely the "kiddie" rides or things that are easy going, so hopefully, it will work out well. :)

WE have used the GAC card every time for our DS & it has been great. He is very afraid of most rides & only goes on about 8 attractions in WDW but cannot wait in line. He gets very nervous & will push the people in front of him. He has Fragile X Syndrome which has alot of similarities to autisim. The one ride he loves is the cars in Tomorrowland but the line is always insanely long. I show the CM the card & we go right to a car. It is the high point of every trip. Have a great time.
