So, which side of Autism Speaks mouth do you listen to?
The one on their Facebook page that on Sept. 20th said this:
"Status Update
By Autism Speaks
There has been some misinformation involving Disneyland's Guest Assistance Card program. Autism Speaks has been working with Disney. Well have updates."
(I tried to post a link, but there are no links to individual Facebook posts. You can scroll down their Facebook page and find it though)
Or the side that now says, "they asked us some questions, we responded," but denies they were working with Disney, denies they even knew there were any changes coming. Basically says, "I know nothing" (reminders of Sgt. Schultz from Hogan's Heroes).
It has been confirmed that both coasts are changing at the same time on October 9.
To me, It sounds like Matt Asner has his own personal feelings, but has to give a "business-like" response to protect the Autism Speaks organization. So he wants to distance the organization from this issue.
At the same time........Meg Crofton is Meg Crofton is Meg Crrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrofton. She will always be Meg Crofton.
I was going to post something else but i know your upset with Disney.
Question would it really make a difference if Tom staggs released the same thing instead of meg crofton. Even though no one on here respect her she still until iger come to his senses and get rid of her but she still a high ranking Disney executive.
Tom Staggs would not have released something that terribly written.
Did anyone else notice that Autism Speaks removed THEIR response and replaced it with the response from Meg Crofton at Disney?
This has been a very interesting thread! Thank you everyone for your thoughts!
I came the the dis to read about this issue and I have to say I am very confused as to why it is being discussed on this board and not on the disabilities board.
I work with a group of Autistic toddlers and direct the moms of this group to the disabilities board when questions about WDW come up during our group time.
I was told this morning that there was no info available on the dis???? Glad I found this thread so I can direct them to the right place!![]()
Actually, there is a lot of great information on the DISabilities forum (though not as much discussion as here).
Look for the threads titled "DL & DCA -Disability Access Service Card- please read post 1-3 before posting" and "WDW - Disability Access Service Cards replace GACs. Please read posts 1-3 before post"
Thanks for bumping those threads Sue!
I'm not Sue - just someone who stumbled onto here when looking for information about the changes! I hope the threads are helpful to you.

It's being discussed here because it was discussed on the last episode of The DIS Unplugged podcast. I can't speak for anything on the DISabilities board
Thanks! I was curious because one of the moms in my group was sent a PM saying it was forbidden to talk about on the DisI was very surprised by that!
I am glad to know that they can come here and talk about their concerns!![]()
This topic isn't the only one that can be discussed here but not in another forum. This isn't the wild west, of course, but the discussions here tend to typically be calmer. I suspect one reason is that a greater percentage of posters to this board have met IRL. It's not, however, true that the posters to this board drink the kool-aid . . . we prefer harder stuff.
This board has its hot topics too . . .
I just wanted to share a blog post that was done this morning about the changes to the GAC. I think it's very well done. The post is informative without taking any kind of side on the issue.

I think Disney Assistance System does sound better.
