Last May/June, DD Brittany collected personal items, snacks, and stuffed animals from the kids at her school (and we got some as well :goodvibes ), and then she made up boxes and goodies bags for the soldiers in Iraq and the children over there. She wrote and gave them her address and told them "if they were bored" they could write her back.

I told Brittany they were probably pretty busy and I didn't know if they would be able to write, but we'd see. So, we packed everything up and a coworker's husband at the Armory sent them off for us.

Well, we never heard anything, and hoped it all had gotten there allright. I just got a call from a local soldier who just returned from Iraq. He was calling to let Brittany know that they had recieved her boxes and let her know how much it meant to them to know people were thinking of them. He wanted to confirm our address so they could send Brittany some thank-yous!!!

Brittany will be so excited to know they got the boxes!! I can't wait to tell her!! :cool1:

EDITED WITH AN UPDATE. :teeth:

Just wanted to share. They just called me and said that they (Nat Guard) were going to arrange with Brittany's school to present her and her classmates with a certificate of appreciation at an assembly! How cool is that?

I am so impressed that after almost a year, these guys (and gals) are still going to go out of their way to say thanks!! So many kudos for all they do!!!!

That's cool. Stuff like that really does make a difference, even if you don't ever hear about it. I remember being thankful for the general "write a solder/sailor" when I was in the Pursian Gulf during the First Pursian Gulf War...it does make a difference.

That's so awesome.... I bet she'll be thrilled.

The brother of a teacher at my girls school is over there. Around Christmas time, the whole school collected items that they could use plus extra fun stuff. They sent a picture of them with the boxes and posted the thank you card in my dd classroom. Come to find out last week that the brother was severely injured over there... he has a major head injury and don't know if he will survive. We are praying for him... that is really lousy.

That is very cool! I bet your daughter will be thrilled to know that they got it! And I know that the soldiers were thrilled to receive the packages!

thats great!!!!

I got to be good friends with a marine that i sent stuff to while he was in iraq (from anysoldier.com) he told me all the time how much they appreciate it and he shared the stuff with all the guys

What a wonderful story. Your daughter is a special person...but you knew that.

Your story touched my heart. What a wonderful thing the kids did. Then for the soliders to thank them makes it that much more extra special. :goodvibes

That is so cool! :thumbsup2

After seeing a segment on Fox my kids gathered up soccer stuff and sent it to soldiers in Iraq. The soldiers then distributed the stuff to local Iraqi kids.
My kids were thrilled when they received a hand-written thank you note from the OIC.

With all they have been through it says alot about our military that they take the time to thank our kids. :teeth: Bless them!!
