Guess where the tax refund is going?

That's right-DVC membership! Finally!

It's taken five years, but at last DH has seen the light. Friends of ours have been DVC members for almost 10 years, and *love* it. Every time we see them, they ask 'when are you going to join already?'. Today, baby!

I'm hoping we can still book something for July or August. What do you think are my chances? It will just be my DD and me, so we really only need a studio. I don't much care which DVC resort we stay at, and my dates are totally flexible. Have others had much trouble booking this close to summer?

I called Monday and had a two bedroom booked at the BWV's for the exact dates I wanted in August. No parking lot view left, but that's ok...it's a quick trip for me and my DS anyway. They offered me Boardwalk view, and turned it down for the wait list for parking lot view. Then I called back, and the Boardwalk view was gone. Oh well...I'm wait listed for that now, but garden views are great too. We've had quiet pool twice and that's a nice time.

Sounds like you are pretty flexible. You'll be fine.

Yes, it is less points for a parking lot view, so they are highly sought after rooms. Personally, I love the garden view as I said, and I would be thrilled if we got the Boardwalk View. Boardwalk is our fav resort, even though we own at SSR. Oh well. In many ways, points are points unless you want holidays and have rigid travel schedules.

DH and I avoid holidays in the parks - we don't like the large crowds. We really like off seasons - our January trip was WONDERFUL! So we plan to use our points for Sun-Thurs night trips only. That way we can maximize our points for a couple trips a year. (We only have 175 points at SSR, although I'm waging a good war to get Dh to buy me more points! Just can't decide between adding on at SSR, or trying to get BWV's)

And yes, I LOVE Mr. Potato Head! He and Mrs. sit on my bookcase in my bedroom and I have to stop and get new parts on every trip to the World. My sons are 19 and 16 and think I'm crazy sometimes....but no one messes with my pixie dust

Welcome Home! Guess where my tax refund went? LOL I actually owed and was waiting for it to pay on my DVC financing from Nov. But can you honestly think of a more magical place for tax refunds to go?LOL

Enjoy the planning-we will be there mid and late August and I had no problem booking what I wanted. When is the latest you can go in August? The crowds seem lower in the latter part and I have heard that July is quite a bit busier.

Thanks, everyone for the 'welcome home's! I've been scratching my head for five years to figure out a way to do this, and it finally came together this year. <phew>

NYMom-the latest we can go would probably be the week of 8/20. I'm not sure when DD heads back to school in the fall-if it's the last week of Aug. or the first week of Sept. My DH goes back 8/28, so it would be a stretch for him to have to work and figure out daycare for our DS. So, I'm thinking the latest would be 8/20.

We've gone to WDW several times in Aug, and we *love* it! Especially the last two weeks. The crowds thin considerably, and it just happens to coincide with DD's and my b-days. Although, I don't know if I can wait even that long!

Hey, islandbeachnut-I'm pulling for you! It took us quite a while, as I mentioned, but hey, 'if you can dream it, you can do it...'
