Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

Well I'm happy for anyone that can take advantage of this discount. But I think it stinks for those that can't or have no desire. I really wish if Disney was going to give a discount of any type, it would allow the buyer to make a decision on what they want to buy, not Disney. I love Disney, but I have no desire to go as often as alot of you. I was really hoping for a discount to use on Park Hoppers, that way i can decide when I want to go, I find that if I have an annual pass, then we would be making more trips than I want to in order to get our moneys out of the pass. I am going to WDW for 5 days in February, only going to the parks for 2-3 days, if that. I won't be going back for way over a year because we are hoping to go to HH in August. Probably not another trip till 11/06. I know this is probably a huge money maker for Disney, just wish it was a discount that all could benefit from. But hey, any discount is a good discount!!!

Just to explain--in a nutshell, traycie, yes, I am prohibited by my employer from traveling except at times that pool hopping is prohibited. I arranged a cruise for DW and I's fifth anniversary this past September that had to be cancelled due to Hurricane Frances. My employer made it very clear to me that it would not be tolerated for me to take any days off in the future when school is in session for me. My school is in session for me from August 15 to August 8 each year, with the only vacation I am actually allowed to take being the Christmas holiday since the university shuts down (even DW doesn't understand this, because I do not get any vacation benefits in my position at all). So, I guess you can see my dilemma. And please don't tell me to get a life or get over it. Basically, I am unable to change jobs inside or outside the university (for different reasons that I will not bore you with, but let me assure you that this is not my imagination), so I just have to live with it. Doesn't make for very good morale. BTW, if you read my post very carefully, I did not call ANYONE a pig; it was a metaphor.

Hmmmm, let's see: Loving wife, family to share life with, a job which provides you with "noble" work - and the resources to own an expensive luxury time-share and go to Walt Disney World on a near-annual basis. I suspect that the number of people who would gladly wear your shoes would be so large as to require exponential notation.

I'm quite pleased that DVC has negotiated this perk for us, and plan to take advantage of it quite a bit over the next 49 years. As many have said, the cash savings isn't the only benefit - there's a certain freedom that comes with being able to pop in for a parade, a meal, or just an evening stroll around a park without worrying about "using up a day".

And I bow down - and give a respectful "MOO" - to Johnnie: maybe DVC actually heard the herd! ;) ;)

My story and my sentiments exactly. I go every other year. I go for ~4-5 days. I'm highly disappointed, I was just telling folks at home about this "mystery news" yesterday, and how I hoped it would be a discount on park hoppers - and instead it's nothing I can use. A family of 4 like I have, all "adults" now according to Disney, that's alot of "extra" money - like a dinner out - to throw away just so I can hop into a park for an hour without using my ticket "day".

:(

I wish the discount was spread throughout all the ticket choices, because yes, whether those of you who CAN take advantage of this understand it or not, I definitely and absolutely do feel "left out" of this party. I'll have to chew on this a while to see if there's any way this could be of benefit for us.

And im sorry if some peoples schedule doesnt allow them to take advantage of member perks, but its not our fault, so dont get mad at us.

I have to put in my two cents, because I'm horrified at the treatment Dr P is getting -he was not mad at anyone here until he was attacked, he was stating his opinions which I agree with 100%, and you know what? I was afraid to state them because I don't want to get attacked like him.

He was stating, very clearly and very to the point, that he feels let down because like all of you, and like me, he was looking forward hopefully to a nice surprise - and instead found out that yet again it is not something helpful for him, for me, for others. You all took it personally and made him, and through general attitude "osmosis", others like myself, unwelcome to state OUR feelings or opinions. I'm so disappointed and upset, I don't even know this man, but he does not deserve your ire and disgust because he's upset.

"Wah wah wah" indeed. Please. How condescending can you get just because someone does not agree with you.

luvindisneyworld,
See what you started! :teeth:

So far we have what one CM told luvindisneyworld. We don't even know if this is going to happen.

My guess is that MS will have a flood of calls today!

I'm happy with our new perk......
(although I won't get to use it until next year)

But I agree with previous posts about the crappy AP paper tickets. We had them last year and had to have them replaced at least once EVERY visit. My ticket was replaced 2 times the first trip. (and we did not abuse them or rub them together or whatever.)

IT WAS REALLY ANNOYING.....

City Hall claimed they didn't have them machinery to make plastic cards.

Now I just got my ticket for MVMCP and guess what it is?
A plastic card......

Give me a break... If Disney can print thousands of room cards each week that access the park...you would think it wouldn't be that hard......

Not to mention the discounts associated with the AP.

You must be really hard on them. I've had AP's since 1998, use it 20 to 25 days a year and have never had to replace one. I keep it in the back of my wallet when I'm there.

I already bought 7day PHP's for our trip in 8/05. Our next trip won't be until 8/06, so the AP isn't really much of an advantage to me anyway. Maybe we will eventually get AP's, but of course it will be my luck that when we are ready to commit to an AP the discount will be gone. I think an across the board discount would be nice, so people could by the passes that suit their individual needs. Those of you benefitting from the discount, Hooray! Those of who don't, same old dilemmas.

One thing to note on discount PHP: they are already readily available at a discount. Visit the budget board, it is very helpful.

Available:
7 day PHP, no plusses, from Hotwire for $303 ($43.29 per day)
5 day PHP no plusses from AAA: $232 ($46.40 per day)
6 day PHP, 3 plusses from AAA: $290 ($38.33 per day for the parks if you value the plusses at $20. each)
In addition, with AAA you get a pass to park up close to the gate. These PHP never expire---a great hedge against inflation!

At the same time, I'm glad for the AP discount, because up to now, unless you lived in the state of Florida, there was no other option for getting an AP at any kind of discount (other than renewal).

Assuming this is the "regular AP/PAP" and not a special DVC AP wherein we get a big price break, but no discounts since we already got 1 and get more through being in DVC. It isn't hard for Disney to add yet another ticket catagory and cause everyone confusion.

actually we babied them with seperate plastic covers and the paper covers and everything..... the only time they come out is for park admission and for fast passes and them they get collected back.

Sorry, but I would have to respectively disagree with your assessment. If Dr. P had come out and said, “Hey, great perk for those who can take advantage of it, but I am upset the discount isn’t applied universally to all ticket packages for those DVC members who travel less frequently” I don’t think anyone would disagree with his point. Instead, he somehow brought in the Bush administration into the argument, referred to AP holders as “elitist”, made comparisons to “pigs at the trough”, and referred to perks as “entitlements”.

I am not an AP holder, and I have no argument with Dr. P’s position about ticket discounts or Dr. P himself, but I do disagree with his arguments outside the ticket discount. If my posts where offensive, then I apologize, that was not the intent of my arguments, I think I’ll spend some happy time on the Community Board and wait to see the actual policy released by Disney.

Hi Goofy -

this sounds just like us! DH is the "Holder of the tickets" and he distributes them at the ticket gate and collects them on the other side.

Well I haven't read through all 10+ pages but wanted to add my 2 cents.

I'm a little disappointed personally because I just renewed our AP's (which expire in a little over 2 weeks) for next year. So no savings for me. :(

I am, however, very happy that DVC has listened to its members and given us this discount. It will make it much more affordable for us to renew our AP's next year :D

We don't get to go as often as those of you who live closer, but we try to get at least two trips in during that one year AP period and it has worked great for us.

Thank you DVC!

I've already had to replace my AP on trip two this year. I was actually surprised when they handed me my AP originally...I thought for sure with all the wear and tear of an AP that this particular ticket would be plastic.
