Guardians of the (Epcot) Galaxy

It seems the most common Disney reaction to get it in the park quickly would be to change out Pixar Animation shorts to be the DVD bonus features from Guardians of the Galaxy. Then make it a tier-1 FastPass.

Energy is the pinpoint. We are past blue sky and it's looking to be approved. Some things have already been approved for Epcot.

THIS is what I understand from insiders on other sites. There is no way they can afford to close another attraction at DHS during the re-imagining of that park. Mission Space is scheduled for a refurb at some point and I suspect that is all it will be.

The interpretation of the license that I heard is that GOTG will be teaming up with The Avengers to fight Thanos, who is gathering infinity stones (the stones have appeared in GOTG and the Avenger movies). Once that team-up happens in the films, the GOTG will be part of the ‘family’ (see page 10 of licensing agreement) of licensed-to-Universal characters, and Disney will no longer be able to use those characters in theme parks east of the Mississippi.

That is correct that this isn't for sure yet but I don't think it will be as late as 2020.

After seeing more from our famous insider, it looks like 2020 looks more feasible. He referred to it as a BIG project, and Disney has hopes it will be done for the 50th. Disney doesn't typically hit their targets, let alone finish early.

I also liked what one poster on another forum had, with a few updates from insiders:

So let's recap.

• Energy is getting a GotG overhaul, it has been green lit. A ride and "show" (exhibit and display more likely right now)
• Wonders might get a GotG phase 2, not yet green lit..
• Communicore (outside of mouse gear and starbucks, possibly club cool) will be updated/overhauled, green lit. Will be some demo here and there. Plans for a massive redesign and physical reconfiguration
• Mission Space will get a refurb/update, green lit - not much, more was proposed but were left behind
• There are plans for Imagination, but not green lit.
• Land will remain as is
• Seas will remain as is
• Test Track will remain as is
• Space Ship Earth will remain as is
• Improved and de-cemeteried entrance and lose the dreadful tarps-over-concrete look to Innoventions Plaza

Westside of FW in the priority at the moment, and Imagination is not at the front of the queue at the moment. The new GotG ride is classified as an "E" right now.

Also, this is not new, it has been on the table for awhile. But now that one insider (I believe Spirit) released some info yesterday morning, all the insiders seemed to be releasing some info about it that they have known for awhile. But plans are still ongoing about it.

One insider said it will definitely open AFTER Toy Story Land (2018), but MAYBE before Star Wars Land (2019) if they don't drag their feet. So that puts it in the 2019-2020 range.

What interesting times! So much going on at Disney but, I have a question. Is it just the ride being done or is the surrounding area will be done to look more like the GOTG world? Also is the whole Future World eventually going to be madeover (like that area that used to house the old Captain EO ride) Thanks for the info!

From what I read, just a lot of speculation at this point, and insiders unable to release more info. One bright spot (in my opinion) is when someone (insider) who has been typically negative of late, believe the upcoming work is a positive...especially when it is for a park that they love the most, especially the original concept of Epcot -- that to me is a good sign. IMO, the insider was especially negative towards FEA only because it didn't match his memory of what Epcot was, and he would never accept that. From day 1 (when he knew about FEA before others) he seemed negative. But for this project, he is singing a very different tune from day 1, even if he can't reveal much (yet).

GotG characters have already been associated with the Avengers in the comics, so if that didn't make them part of the Avengers family, having them appear in a movie with them might not either.

Much like Mission: Space bears no resemblance to Horizons, everyone needs to abandon the idea that anything that might go in the space between UoE and M:S will bear any resemblance to Wonders of Life. Most of that pavilion has been literally thrown out long ago. And what little is still there is in disrepair beyond fixing. Except what can be used for the festivals.

That land will either remain festival space or be completely bulldozed.

It would be sad for that pavilion to be bulldozed. It is a very attractive building, both inside and out.

Basically they should just shut down major portions of Epcot and retheme it ...

Get rid of the whole Future World "World's Fair" theme that is half gone already anyway and turn World Showcase into something more exciting by adding more "country" themed Disney properties in there with actual rides like they started to do in Norway.

I am not a lawyer, but one thing I have learned over the years is that as a non-lawyer, we don't have the knowledge to read and interpret contracts correctly. Us non-lawyers like to read contracts looking for loop holes and unique ways of parsing the English language. In the real legal world, that isn't how things works. Judges don't like loop holes and unique ways of parsing the English languages.

That is a long winded way of saying that all of those articles with other non-lawyers trying to parse the contract are relatively useless. All that we know for sure if that any of the Marvel characters used at Universal and the Marvel name/logo can't be used inside any non-Universal park east of the Mississippi.

I agree completely. HOWEVER, if fear of losing theme park rights to those characters prompts Disney to fast track a new attraction, then I'm certainly not going to argue.

THRILLED to see a potential GotG attraction in WDW. It does not, however, fit in or belong in Epcot. It should be in Tomorrowland (goodbye Stitch) or DHS. If it does indeed wind up in Universe of Energy (which while I love, I'm not too sad to see go) then Epcot will be suffering from a SEVERE identity crisis. What IS the them of the park then?? Imaginary lands in World Showcase...Sci-Fi characters in Future World?? I'm stymied.

I'm glad to see Epcot getting some much needed love. I still think an Inside Out attraction belongs in the Imagination pavilion or Wonders of LIfe. But at this point I'm fully expecting to see a World Showcase land of Sugar Rush, Zootopia, and San Fransokyo.

Who are you Epcot? I feel like I don't even know who you are anymore...

Totally agree. It was bad enough to get Nemo and Frozen in Epcot, but if it starts going all movie-themed it will be no different than MK or HS. I realize it's hard to keep a "future world" perpetually relevant, but this is Disney, come on!
