GTY room questions

Two quick questions for those of you with experience.

When you have a stateroom guarantee, will Disney put a stateroom number with your online reservation, or just in the documentation they send you?

And I understand your stateroom assignment can still change after they send the final packet about a month out, but how often does such a change really happen? Does anybody have an idea?

Thanks in advance!

We were assigned our room # at about 30 days out. The website still showed it as a Cat. 12 GTY but it had a stateroom # listed beside it. The stateroom # listed was actually a Category 9! Then, after we got our cruise packet in the mail, I got a call from "inventory control" and they bumped us up again to a category 8. I just had to cross through the "old" stateroom # on the luggage tags and write in the new one. Good luck! This was our 1st cruise and it was also a Western. We LOVED the Jeep tour in Cozumel and our pirate encounter in Grand Cayman! We also parasailed with Fury in Key West and it was awesome and so much less expensive than Castaway Cay!

Hello! We had booked a qty cat 12, and found the cabin assignment online a little over 30 days out. We were upgraded to a cat 10. Ours did not change. I was just happy to be in a 10!

Our cruise leaves in 31 days and we are still in Cat 12- think it's too late for them to change it? I already have the room assignment....

Our cabin number was listed online, although it took quite awhile to show up. I was checking every day until I saw it!

It's not unheard of for DCL to make changes after a specific cabin has been asigned (as in pixie dust's example above) but I'd say it's definitely the exception rather than the rule.

As much as upgrades from Cat 12 get talked about here, someone ends up in those cat 12 cabins every cruise. ;)

As above, the cabin numbers show up on line as well as in your documents. They typically show up at about 30 days, although recently some have appeared earlier. THe notation will still show a cat 12, but when you look up what the category you room actually is, it may be something other than a 12 (if it's an even number, you got a window!)

As above, there are 13 cat 12s on the ship...and usually someone sails in them. There's nothing WRONG with them at all. Yes, you can be upgraded after your cabin assignment shows up on line although it isn't really common. One of the most frequent situations is when the cat 12 is needed for a Disney pseudo CM--for instance, we had as a dinner mate a young man who was part of the college program at WDW, but he was in a special category as he was attending a computer/tech college. He and his supervisor were sailing on the Magic in order to upgrade the computer system on board and they each occupied a cat 12 cabin. He explained that because he wasn't a "normal" DCL CM, he was officially booked as a guest, but that he wasn't sure how often he'd be joining us at dinner with his work commitments. SO...that took 2 cat 12s on that sailing.

If they need your cabin, they'll upgrade you!

Thanks for the answers, everybody.

I had to downgrade our reservation from cat 5 to cat 9 gty, and as of right now the only availability for my sailing is cats 5 & 9 gty, and cat 4.

I am desperately hoping they can put me into one of the cat 4 or 5 openings, but I'll understand if somebody else gets the upgrade...

I just found out our GTY turned into a category 12 (not sure I have even seen a thread on this board where someone did not get upgraded from a 12). There are only 13 on the entire cruise and because of certain circumstances, Disney has had my money for years, and I was the unlucky one not to get an upgrade (and got all the way forward - 2009). :confused3

We were all the way forward (2nd room from front) and it wasn't bad at all. We had no problems at all with it.

Anyone ever stayed in 2009? I cannot even find a review on that cabin on the Magic or the Wonder.

We always book forward staterooms. Love that area of the ship!

You can check out the surrounding staterooms noted for both ships to get an idea of location and hall traffic even if they are exterior rooms.

Hoping it is not too noisy (being under the clubs).

I was in room 2509 on the Wonder in April, I know it's not the same room but similar, and we thought the room was fine. I enjoy being forward on deck 2, it is my favorite location.
I never noticed any noise from the clubs above and being Forward you get less traffic outside your room. On our cruise our party (we were 5 staterooms) we were all the Cat 12's from 2509 - 2517 and everyone seemed to be fine with the location.

Hi!

We were gty 12 until check in (I think). We loved our room (husband appreciated the dark for naps and sleeping in). We had hardly any hall traffic and couldn't hear a noise from the clubs right above us.

Nov 05 7 night Western
counting down to Dec5, 2009 Eastern cruise (and still cat 12 gty)

our sailing if July 30th-so less than 30 now-still no cabin number-I booked a cat 7, so I do not realy expect an upgrade-just waiting to see where we are.

For anyone who does upgrade at the port-does your luggage have any trouble getting to your room, since it has the old number on it? We will arrive early and see what might be available. How does everyone always tell how full a sailing is?

Beth -
Wow! I can't believe you don't have your assignment yet :confused3 I'm the 3 day the week before you and I received my assignment about 10 days ago. Yours should be coming soon!!!

I was also 7 GTY and am in 6134. Fingers crossed you get a room # soon!!!

we liked deck 6 when we stayed there-made it not such a long walk since I try to take the stairs all the time.

I thought maybe I'd see a cabin today, but not yet!!

I am anxious to hear how the solo cruise goes! If you have any of the Disney Channel celebrities and get a picture-will you email it to me-my son loves the Disney stars. Our cruise has no one I've ever heard of.
