GTY room questions

I just found out our GTY turned into a category 12 (not sure I have even seen a thread on this board where someone did not get upgraded from a 12). There are only 13 on the entire cruise and because of certain circumstances, Disney has had my money for years, and I was the unlucky one not to get an upgrade (and got all the way forward - 2009). :confused3

People have posted that they have not been upgraded from a Cat 12...hey, they have to be occupied by someone. Unfortunaely that is the tradeoff for getting a good price on the Cat 12....you could end up with one. You never know...you may get moved yet.

Hope you enjoy your cruise

We are doing back to back Wonder July 5-12.

The second part of it, July 9-12, we are booked in cat 12 GTY. Two rooms, four people each.

As of now we are still GTY room status, no assignment no documents for that cruise. A week ago received assignments and documents for the prior sailing.

What's the latest anyone has gotten their assignment? Not that it's important, but I am curious where we will be :)

I have read here of some great and not sso great upgrades. Some people are disappointed, others feel slighted, some are thrilled. so how does DCL or any cruise line decide upgrades? Is it random? Is it done by computer? Or does an real person assign the rooms? I guess there are pros to rewarding those who book early-or sail often, but by giving a first timer a balcony-you might have a balcony convert for life-so does anyone have any guess how it is done? With all a computer can do it seems you coud have it done by computer factoring in all kinds of information. This is the first guarantee room we ever had-only because I wanted a balcony and that's what was left in a cat 7-GTY only. I never gave it a thought we could get an upgrade since we always book what we want, but now I guess I'll check every day until we get a cabin just in case.

I am anxious to hear how the solo cruise goes! If you have any of the Disney Channel celebrities and get a picture-will you email it to me-my son loves the Disney stars. Our cruise has no one I've ever heard of.

Absolutely will do. I think there will be two girls from Jonas and a guy from Hatching Pete (which my kids LOVE!). Looks like KSM will be on yours, Beth. My dd and I saw them last fall with the Gymnastics Superstars tour. They're also on the Girlz Rock cd.

Many have tried to figure out the logic for upgrades over the years but there is none.

People say there is no clear pattern to upgrades. Sometimes people with unassigned guaranteed rooms are upgraded, sometimes not. Sometimes people with assigned room numbers are upgraded, sometimes not.

The reason for the upgrades should be obvious - some categories sell much better than others, and Disney wants a full ship for every sailing. So if categories 8-12 are sold out, but there is plenty of vacancy in veranda staterooms, the lower price staterooms will be oversold then, in a process not disclosed to customers, Disney chooses who to upgrade.

I started this thread because I had to downgrade my reservation to save money after getting a layoff notice. For over a year I have dreamed of staying up late Saturday night on the starboard side veranda, watching the lights of Florida in the distance. Now I am hoping and praying for an upgrade back to a veranda stateroom - either because cat 9 was oversold or by finding a cheap upgrade at the port. If I am not able to upgrade I'll just have to do my best to be happy looking out a window...

Hoping it is not too noisy (being under the clubs).

We were on the Podcast cruise and booked a CAT 12 gty. That's exactly what we got. The room location was quiet not much hallway traffic. Perfect for us. Then we had to move to a CAT 11 so they could replace the bathroom floor in the CAT 12. It had issues. We were moved to deck 6 over the kids clubs. There was much more noise than in the CAT 12. Never book less than you will be happy with. We are booked again in Dec on a 7 nt with 3 CAT 12's. If we get an upgrade fine if not we are still on the boat and having fun.

Yep. This upcoming cruise is the first time we ever got an upgrade, but it was totally unexpected. We did book really last minute (3 weeks before sailing), but other than that, I have no idea what was different this time.
