i just booked the 11 night Nowegein fjords and Icelend cruise for June 2017!! I booked the Magic GTY 9c ocean view on deck 2 but now I am wondering if I just should have booked the 9b on deck 2. I usually sail on deck 7,8 or 9 so this is my first time on deck 2. I was a little hesitant but beside an inside room it's the only in my price range. I have read a lot on these boards by people who love deck 2 so I am willing to give it a chance. My only concern is getting a room too far forward or aft. My question is what really are the chances for an upgrade on a GTY room? Do I take my chances or switch to the 9a? I see there are a few rooms available mid-ship so I am considering just changing categories now as it it only a $40 price difference. Also, if I stick with the GTY and don't like my room once it's assigned can I switch categories at that time? TIA

9C isn't an inside room, it's an oceanview.

We've pretty much always booked a 9C GTY on the Magic class ships. Most of the time we get a 9B. But there's no guarantee you would.

For a $40 price difference (that's the total difference - not per night, or per person, right?), I'd say going with the 9A would be worth it for you.

If you keep the 9C GTY and don't like the room you're assigned, you can call DCL and see if there's anything still available for you to switch to. If you upgrade your room at that time, you'll pay the price difference at the time you change it.

AFAIK you cannot change your cabin once the GTY is assigned (it is done much closer to sailing than it usually is on RCCL which I know does allow people to gamble and then complain they don't like where they got put). If you're not going to be happy with a forward cabin, book the midship because there is no guarantee of a location with a GTY. In most cases you'll get the category you booked.

I believe for oceanview, deck 2 only has category 9B and 9C, with 9B being midship and 9C being forward and aft. Oceanview 9A is far forward on decks 5, 6, 7.

We loved our 9C on deck 2 on the Wonder, but it wasn't a GTY, so we chose a room right at the aft elevators (2116), so not too far aft.

If it is a midship 9B category available for only $40 total more, I'd switch to that vs. chancing being far forward or far aft.

Yes, I do know it's an oceanview cabin. It's the only oceanview in my price range beside going with an inside cabin which I know I will not be happy with. I think I'm going to switch so I can pick my cabin and now I will be where I want.
I do often read these boards and see you like deck 2. Have you done a cruise to Norway? If so what are the seas like and can you feel much movement on deck 2 or is it good?

You are right it is a 9b. I did change my post. Thanks for the advice. I'm glad to hear you like deck 2

We've not done the Norway cruise, yet. But, yes, we've only been on deck 2 on both the Magic & Wonder for various cruises and that's our preferred location.

As to predicting what the seas will be like - it can't be done. We did a trans Atlantic cruise during a "bad" time(Sep/Oct) and had seas of glass. And another during a "good" time (May) when the seas showed what the North Atlantic was all about (icy, rough seas for days on end).

If you're prone to feeling movement onboard the ships, then you'll feel it pretty much wherever you are. Personally, I like the motion/movement onboard the ship when cruising. But I know there are others who don't.

I agree you can't predict the seas. The movement of ship doesn't bother me. It actually lulls me to sleep so I am not too worried just curious as it is new territory for me to sail.
There is one 9b cabin left that is not connections (9082) all the rest are connecting rooms by the mid elevators. Any experience with a connecting room? Do you hear noise from the other room?

We've had several connecting and non-connecting rooms. As far as noise, I've noticed no difference between them. The noise factor depends on your neighbors, and those people walking down the passageway outside your door. If you have noisy people there, then it's noisy in your room.

We've only had one room that the noise was extremely bothersome and that was on the Fantasy, deck 9. This was due to the people on the upper deck who felt that running foot races was the only way to go up and down the passageway, day or night. As well as the 3 connecting rooms on one side and two connecting rooms on the other who both had kids that felt that jumping off the bunk bed and screaming was soooooo much fun. As well as the fun of running laps through the connecting doors/verandah doors in their rooms for hours.

Great! Thanks for all your help!

went to Norway this summer in 2110--loved it! only complaint was that I could hear hallway noise going to the elevator. But, I would choose that cabin again. Absolutely NO motion! I really felt it in forward on the Dream and was worried about being in the North Sea. We debated upgrading at pier to balcony, but found out there would be no quads available. Glad we didn't even try. LOVED deck 2! For connecting room, we put a towel at the bottom of the door--also for the hallway door.

Good idea about the towel! There is always hallway noise unfortunately. Glad to hear you loved Norway! I'm so excited for this cruise.
