Grrrrr Vent here on parking fees

:scared: I would be more upset about that than I would be about a parking fee. At least I can avoid the parking fee by not renting a car, but the resort fee cannot be avoided. It should just be included in the room rate. IMO.

By breaking it out, the resort fee is not subject to the sales & resort taxes.

I am a Starwood member (Swan/dolphin). When I stay on points I have to pay parking/resort fees.

In reality I am staying for $25.00 a night or whatever the going rate is now.

So, you're points have no value? Starwood points are some of the most valuable hotel points available. You're paying a lot for that room, even if it isn't in US currency.

I didn't know that. However, by not revealing the overall cost up front, it can be quite misleading. There should be a way for the resort to include that fee when you you make your reservation instead of tacking it onto your bill at check in.

You're not staying for $25 a night. You're parking for $25 a night. If you just want to stay for free, don't bring a car- and then, no charge. Lot of people vacation in the Orlando area (and others) without a car.

I believe that the PP was referring to the resort fee, which is not waived for Starwoods members when they are staying with rewards points. If paying for a cash reservation, I believe the resort fee is waived for platinum members.

In the past it was hidden. I remember finding out about it at one resort when I checked in. But now, it's on the pages with the rates.

It's more annoying that some resorts charge a percentage of the room rate instead of a flat fee. We were going to stay at a resort near my mother's last month but it had an 18% resort fee. Why should it cost more for someone using resort amenities in a more expensive room when the amenities are the same for everyone?

You pay for parking at Disneyland hotels as well. And the Universal hotels

They built a limited amount of parking at the Swan and Dolphin - if everyone brought a car, there wouldn't be enough parking - so in part to discourage everyone bringing a car, they charge.

Should Disney find themselves in a situation with more people driving than parking available, they'll charge as well. I suspect they'll take other steps first - more enforcement of guest only parking, limiting it to one car per room for free. And I'd suspect it would be the resorts where parking is a problem first.
