We are taking a group of kids from our 4-H club to Disney in February. We are a tax exempt organization and was hoping to use our Florida tax exempt certificate to save on the lodging taxes. Has anyone done this? Some states are super picky and some states are very laxed about it. I wasn't sure what to expect. If you have done this, I would love to hear how it went for you.

As a general rule you cannot use tax exempt certificates on lodging. I am not 100% sure on Florida law, but I have had LOTS of groups try it in Tennessee with practically NO success! And the lodging taxes that are NOT "sales" are required even if you get lucky on sales tax.

I hope you are successful, but budget for the taxes just in case!

And does YOUR 4-H have a Florida certificate? I don't think you can use another 4-H clubs certificate,

We do have have our own Florida tax exempt certificate (and even a TN one) and have used it before in Florida. I also understand the additional tourist or occupancy taxes are not exempt, but only the sales tax portion. I have been around that tree before. But what I have discovered is that my hotels don't have a clue at how to process it. Disney want's to charge me the tax and then credit it back to me. The lady that does our audits doesn't like this method at all; they prefer that we are not charged the tax on the front end.

Is Disney going to accept our organization check for the final balance on our resort only reservation when we arrive?

Can you prepay a resort only reservation? We have paid the one night's deposit. Can we figure out what the balance should be and mail an organization's check for the expected balance?

I have been told that they won't remove the sales tax until we arrive, but I guess we could get close with a prepay and settle up the small difference when we arrive.

If you made the reservation by phone you can pre-pay it. But for some reason, guests can't pre-pay room-only reservations made on the WDW website.
