Group flight rates, anyone know anything about them?

I'm just trying to find out information on this and am having trouble, so I thought someone over here might know the answer...

How many people have to be booking a flight to get a group rate?

Are the group rates good? How discounted are they?

For us, a group was 10 with Delta. The fares weren't really much less than the regular fare, but what was nice was that the passengers could be changed without a change fee. So, if the make up of your potential group is ever changing, this can be a lifesaver.
